In today’s episode, we’re tackling a major oil leak on our son Robin’s 2009 Mercedes B-Class B150 with 221,000 km on the clock. Recently, we replaced the clutch, but during that repair (See video on our channel!), it seems we either installed a faulty rear crankshaft seal or placed it incorrectly - resulting in a significant leak! This meant removing the engine again… actually, for the third time!
We thought we were in the clear - until the next morning when Robin took his car for a 200 km drive to school, and the belt snapped mid-journey! So, we packed up spare parts in our Range Rover (“the Queen”) and drove out to meet him in the rain. With a little roadside assistance, we replaced the belt, and Robin was off to school...
This repair journey had its ups and downs but made for an unforgettable experience with our son. Robin is only 19 and just started learning car maintenance, but he handled replacing the rear brakes in this video and he did a great job. We even replaced the idler pulley assembly to eliminate an annoying noise, showing him that fixing cars can be rewarding and cost-effective.
