A "new" (It's been out for a couple of years now) children's cartoon challenged gender norms and roles with the parents. My sister was watching it and I happened to walk by when one of the main characters was like "We need to make holes in this piece of wood, but we're too little. I know, lets ask MOMMY if she can use HER drill to make the holes." It took me by surprise because as a Millenial, all of our kids shows always had the father being the one with the power tools and the mechanical knowledge. The dad in the show is a stay at home dad, and both parents work together to guide the kids, there's no "Mommy said no, but Daddy is going to say yes". The relationship between the siblings is great too.

The thing is, they have no idea what they are talking about... some people think pill=drug and drug=bad, but come on, you can't live without drugs, and you can't berate someone (or try to at least) for taking meds. Hormones aren't drugs, for starters, but a lot of people in the world, hetero-cis assholes included, depends on heart medication or blood pressure regulators. Are they, the diabetics, the immunosuppresed, the cancer patients... all bad because they depend on drugs? What about the fact that coffee, tea, sugar and alcohol are drugs? On the detransition rate: Putting aside the fact that the majority of those are nonbinary people who were pushed into transition they didn't want, and/or trans people who faced immense societal backlash for their transition... a 1% regret rate is a goddamn miracle from a medical perspective. Like, having a kid has a 14% regret rate. A knee replacement, anywhere between something like 30-60%. A 1% regret rate for any procedure, let alone COLLECTION of procedures, is UNHEARD OF.

There's a story about a former Olympic athlete from India. Since birth, she had physically presented as a woman, but because of the scare about trans women athletes, she had to do a chromosome test. It turned out that she was genetically male but had a condition called androgen insensitivity. This condition meant that her cells didn't react to testosterone, meaning that she has XY chromosomes but a physically female body. But because she had a Y chromosome, she was permanently banned from competing professionally.

I watched her too, back in the day. I subbed because of the video where she talked about how there was very little space given for her male classmates to talk about abusive relationships where they had been the victim of, and there almost being this unspoken sentiment that the mean things done and said to them by women was something to be shrugged off or laughed at, and thinking it was kind of a strange that her outspokenly feminist teacher was perpetuating that. Ya know, worthwhile take. Believe it or not, she has them sometimes. Most of her career this far consists of bullying children to the brink of suicide and reactionary hot takes though. Not even worth hate-watching.

I heard chickens have a Z chromosome. And they can be trans as well. Read this article about a farmer who only kept chickens and one morning found a rooster between them. Chicken apparently have only one functional ovary. If it fails (due to a cyst or something) the other ovary develops into a testicle and starts producing testosterone. And the chicken turns into a rooster. It’s the best argument when someone tells you being trans is unnatural. It literally happens in nature.

Bet you some transphobe will cry "Yeah but we're not chickens", in the same manner to when someone mentions clownfish changing sexes. Irt chromosomes, in one of my human genetics units at uni, we learned how to analyse a person's karyotype (their full set of chromosomes, including sex chromosomes) by using our own. It was essentially a way for the uni to save money, so they didn't have to pay for sample material for us to process and analyse, but as students, we loved being able to look at our own chromosomes. A young woman in my class found out that she had XY chromosomes, meaning she had androgen insensitivity. It's basically a non-functional Y chromosome, because her body doesn't respond to male androgens and therefore, developed female physical characteristics, but is completely infertile. She was a refugee from a country where she'd never had access to comprehensive medical care, so despite having difficulty conceiving with her husband, she'd never known. The uni provided free counseling for her (which is offered to anyone who finds alarming things in their genetics through that human genetics major) and last I heard, she wanted to pursue a PhD related to sex chromosomes, inspired by her own experience. So yeah, Jamie is 100% right -- a LOT of transphobes would find surprising things in their own karyotypes, lol. Before we did the actual lab work, our lab tutor made a point of warning us that some of us may not find the sex chromosomes we were expecting, that it happened a couple of times every year across the different classes and that counseling was available.

Iirc the detransitioning thing is even less, I think like half of those who detransitioned realized they were nonbinary or were forced out of it by family members, so even less people detransitioned because they weren’t trans. Also when I was younger I never saw myself as a girl (or a guy for that matter) and I thought that was normal until puberty when I started getting horrible dysphoria and then I was like “wait a damn minute”.

And doesn't it also count going off puberty blockers as "detransitioning"? Which is a bit like calling breaking off an engagement "divorce".

I just wanted to say thank you for these videos! I've only just gotten the confidence (desperation?) to start exploring my gender recently, and while a lot of the videos on trans issues are extremely valuable, learning about transphobia has made me even more scared to think about anything. Lighthearted videos like this (and especially the LGBT+ positive memes) help reassure me that it's okay to think about.

Comment from a middle aged, whiter than snow, cis woman. If trans people are not allowed to have surgery and/or take medication to make their bodies feel more comfortable to live in and to be a truer representation of the person they are inside, then they should also be against.... lets see.... makeup.... piercing, tummy tucks, breast augmentation, butt lifts, exercise, makeup, hair dye, tattoo's, liposuction..... the list is long. They should also be against anyone who requires insulin, or chemotherapy, or birth control, or depression, or anxiety. Not to mention how much they would enjoy their ADHD child NOT having its meds...... FFS.... none of us are the people that we are "born as". That's called an INFANT. Clearly some people never got past that stage of reasoning and understanding. Love your channel

I did at one point have a mildly successful spiritual forum for women, BUT it included transwomen and would have nonbinary AFAB people (it was before the label existed) because it was focused on building common ground between women in spirituality that is commonly dominated by men.
@nicolasnamed
@nicolasnamed Жыл бұрын
That's awesome! I think it's great that you included all people who's experiences with femininity/womanhood were important to them and thier spirituality regardless of background. @@nicolasnamed Yeah not sure if even trans-men couldn't have been included because a lot of you did experience sex-related religious discrimination as children. As an AFAB genderfluid person, who grew up in a time my label didn't exist, there are major reasons I left the church at 12. I realized as a young adult that people who identify as women that are also religious have more in common than they realize, regardless of which faith they belong to (I am Pagan btw).

Sorry, minor nitpick here. Trans man/men and trans woman/women have a space after trans since it's an adjective, same as how tallwoman isn't a word.
@catherines8020
@catherines8020 Жыл бұрын
@@SheWhoExists Well I have seen it three ways actually (even more academic writing) same is true of "cis" ciswomen (as a modifying prefix) cis women (as an adjective), and whatever cis-women would be classified as...so it's confusing at times. I have also been told being nonbinary makes me transgender, most commonly written that way...but if it's always trans man/trans woman wouldn't also be trans gender?
@SheWhoExists
@SheWhoExists Жыл бұрын
@@catherines8020 I wholly agree that it's a little bit of a mess, but generally a space is the most "correct" since cis/cisgender and trans/transgender are generally accepted as adjectives when modifying. As to the transgender vs transgender, it's written transgender and cisgender because trans and cis are shortenings of those words, not modifiers in that case.

some fun detransition facts: -the detransition rate is under 1% and the majority of recorded detransitions aren't due to regret, in fact the majority are when trans people are pushed into detransitioning by transphobic communities and many re-transition later on. -(depending on the specific surgery) the regret rate is far lower than other surgeries such a hip replacements, knee surgeries, plastic surgeries or even chemo courses. One reason for this Is because of the low risks, trans surgeries are majority safe with few long term side affects or long term medication. In the UK The long waiting lists of the NHS and other segregated health services also contribute, you wait years for a surgery, you're unlikely to regret it. These other surgeries with higher regret rates don't require mental examinations to be done. Just trans people. The whole "loads of people detrasition" thing is a massive myth. detransition is also not easy, it makes it sound as if its an on the dime decision, its not. anyway they're fun things to bear in mind, abigail Thorne over at philosiphy tube did a really good video on the NHS and trans health care. stay safe love ya'll ❤️

@@dlg78 I'm afraid you're incorrect, a very quick Google will tell you there's the difference of 67% suicidal thoughts to 3% suicidal thoughts that occur before and after transition. of course transition won't cure mental health issues to do with lack of being heard and supported and being able to be yourself but for those who need it to feel comfortable In their own skin, there is a marked improvement. The change your referring to could be due to a lack of being accepted by family post surgery, or a small percentage of those transitioned people? please do a little research on the topic from unbiased sources, they may suprise you :)

if you're referring to a Swedish study I found, I can't guarantee the legitimacy but I can tell you the suicide rate before transition definitely is not zero as the youth suicidal rate is 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 depending on your source. even the study Concludes that surgery is effective in easing gender dysphoria and suggests more access to therapy and resources for post transition trans people rather than not have people transition at all.

I don't understand why it's so hard to just call people what they want to be called. It changes literally nothing in your life if someone else goes by Robert or Sandra. If you can manage to call either of them Bob or Sandy when "that's not their name," what's the difference? It's none of mine what's in someone else's pants; they are called 'private parts' for a reason. Last I checked, neither urination nor changing one's clothes is a predatory act. I don't know what change rooms y'all attend, but I've never seen anyone do anything other than go about their own business. No one is having a naked Coyote Ugly moment.

Statistically speaking, there have been more cis women attacked by OTHER cis women in bathrooms for not looking "cis" enough than there ever have been or will be cis people attacked or preyed upon by trans people. Transphobia around bathroom usage has only ever hurt both sides and helped absolutely no one, but transphobes would rather clutch their pearls over non-existent, unrealistic situations they made up in their heads than face the reality that they've been hateful towards a minority for absolutely no reason.

I actually have been lectured about of drugs my child is on and has taken. 1. insurance makes you try xyz before you can take the one you know works. 2. I will list each one and what they do and ask people which one should we take away? That usually shuts them up. Nope. Because people can regret many things for many reasons. Regretting eating a certain food because it made them sick (be it food poisoning or allergies). Regretting playing a certain sport because they ended up with a serious injury because of it. Regretting taking a certain elective class because it proved to be boring or unhelpful. Regretting going on a certain ride at an amusement park because it was scary. And so much more. Transphobic logic just isn't logic.
