First game of the season against a tough opponent on the road. The team has to mesh. Granted, Michigan has not done well against rivals. michigan fans would say he has met expectactions but not exceed them at all. Michigan is getting more depth with top recruiting, cosistent on defense, now almost all Harbaugh recruits, QB depth now (no more Hoke QBs), Michigan is trending up

People forget what a DUMPSTER FIRE Michigan was when Harbaugh took over. Also, these guys aren't CFB analysts. Period. College football has 120+ teams, 110+ roster players, and turns over every FOUR years. It really takes specialized, full-time analysts to do a good job. Objectively, Harbaugh over-achieved in year one, achieved in year two, and slightly under-achieved in year 3 (lost starting QB to broken spinal vertebrae, and QB #2 to a concussion), and this is year #4 USC, Texas, etc all fired perfectly competitive coaches, and have been a bottom-feeder ever since. You don't just go around firing 10-win coaches because you don't win the natty. It's college football, a natty takes skill, but also some luck to swing your way. Harbaugh is on-par, if not slightly better than par for what the expectations are. Also he runs a clean program (actually), like he did at Stanford, Michigan likes that, a lot, their new Pres. is an "education first program", and the football players can actually read, write, and go to class (most college football programs don't have players that can/do)

@Paul Robinson ND loss wasnt so bad in hindsight, lost to an 12-1 team who was better than us and mad some huge key places in that game. Then it went great, defense played great and our offense did its job but yea the OSU loss was pathetic again just couldnt stop osu and no chance for our offense to stay in that game. The bowl loss is kinda weird, like it happened and well hates off to florida like how we killed Florida with harbaugh in his first year. so overall id say B season, Great three straights wins over wisconsin (on gameday), penn state, michigan state, chance for big ten title lost to OSU (techncially we tied for first ) lost to ohio state and well got beatdown against florida. No a great season , but a good season that was disappointing in the end.

JP Chavarria The Big 10 has 5 top 15 teams to the SECs 2. In 2017 bowl games big 10 went 7-1 to SEC 4-5. Alabama is good and we will see if georgia can repeat. But Florida, LSU, South Carolina, Texas a&m,and Ole Miss have all been pretty average over the last few years. Lets not act like Urban Meyer, Less Miles , Mark Richt, Bobby Petrino, and Steve Spurrier all still in the SEC. The SEC does not have the same coaching fire power as they did 8 years ago. The Big 10 has surpassed in the SEC in terms of having better coaches and having a much tougher conference top to bottom.

These “experts” don’t understand Jim Harbaugh‘s ego and mentality. He grew up on the sidelines of Michigan as a kid he idolizes bo Schembechler. Michigan is his dream job he doesn’t want to go back to the NFL, He wants to restore Michigan to a national power house and bring in national championship to Michigan. Any fan that expected a national championship in his first 4 years is crazy. They compare him to urban and saban in that he hasn’t won a nc in his first 3 season. Those to coaches are not the norm. It took Jimbo fisher 4 years and It took dabo like 8. In fact there are only 4 active coaches that have won and saban has twice as many as urban. These comparisons need to stop. Let the guy do his thing and keep him for the long haul. Look at keeping Dabo did for Clemson. They won and are now a powerhouse. Firing coaches after 4 seasons is beyond stupid.

I agree with you in a way, but in some ways i don't. I agree that not every coach is Saban or Meyer. In Saban's case, he was proven before he got to Alabama. LSU was a complete mess when he got there. HE locked down the state in recruiting, and turned them into a power, winning a title along the way. We all know how Miami turned out. When he got to Alabama, they were also a dumpster fire, with a culture he had to completely revamp. They were almost SEC champs his second year, with a lot of players that would not even see the field for Bama now. and we know the rest of the story from there. Meyer went to a Ohio state program that was already loaded. I actually think he probably should have played for another title, but he seems to keep losing to inferior teams the last few years. But he has been highly successful. But my disagreement is this. From day one, he has been put on the same pedestal as Saban and Meyer. Some say he is a even better coach then them, which i said from day one was crazy. I think he is a very good coach. To say otherwise is just ignorant. But he is not elite. With so much hype on him, of course they expect a national title in a couple years. And honestly, until the last 2 years, the Big 10 was only Ohio State. So it should have been attainable. Now the rest of the conference has finally gotten of its high horse and is recruiting better. You have like 4 teams that can win the conference. And Michigan's very likely to be better this year, and the record not show it. So another failure by Harbaugh. This is not 20 years ago. Schools and fans dont wanna wait on a 10 year building project. You better win in a couple years. Kirby smart going to the title game in year 2 does not help. Mahlzahn going his first year does not help. It will be interesting to see what happens at Florida state in the next couple years. And Florida as well. If those coaches have quick success, Harbaugh could be shown the door.

All harbaugh has done in four years is recruit the no.1 overall player in rashan gary , steal the no.1 kicker Quinn nordin from division rival penn state, hire the best DC to create the no.1 defense, build a depth chart where we have a five star qb Shea Patterson at helm, five or four (I don’t exactly know which one) star qb Dylan Mccafrrey as backup, and Joe Milton at 3rd string. All he has done is create a consistent special teams, all he has done is actually make Michigan relevant when it comes to playoffs, all he has done is go 9-1 and have analysts debating whether his team is one of the only two teams to have a chance to beat bama. It’s not about what his record was the last couple of years but what he has done to get Michigan where they are today, and I’d say he’s done a pretty darn good job and that people were too impatient for him to actually build Michigan into an elite team.
