I'm sorry, Rob, Alexi, The USA has always been a soccer team that attempted to buy respectability. As a nation we have never developed a world class superstar player. And, as far as I can see there is currently nobody with that potential anywhere in the USA development program. On rare occasions a few USA players have reached the level of what I would call "competent professionals". Thar's just not good enough. MLS is not producing any World Class players, or even any with that potential. It's just not. They'd rather bring in an over-the-hill Messi, or Beckham than go out in the boondocks and find kids, whose parents are not wealthy, and who can pay to let their kid get quality coaching. As usual; in this country it's all about money, and talent without financial backing is ALWAYS overlooked. There must be kids out there with the ability to excel. And they probably don't have any money. Berhalter is a guy who was put in charge by a committee of self-serving incompetents in the USSF. That is the place to begin to clean house, and then rebuild the entire system from the ground up..

It certainly isn’t for the conditions of the pitches or the atmosphere because both are shite over there and the long travel to the us isn’t beneficial either, it just leaves you with less time to actually put in work. which I why they’d just prefer staying near Europe for sporting reasons, for commercial reasons they go to the us, and a coach like Mourinho cares about sporting reasons. Top managers are not stupid: 1. Why would they want to coach a host World Cup nation when they can have the chance of coaching nations that actually can win it and have the players to do it. 2. If it comes to football heritage the US national team is no match for any European club. So no point going to the US for that. 3. If it’s money that they want, they can go to Saudi for a few seasons. US won’t pay them anywhere near that. 4. In club football they have guarantees from the owners or board that they will get the players they want. In the US they will be stuck with this lot of mediocre players. 5. If such coach is more driven by silverware, they would rather take a position in the less competitive European leagues dominated by the likes of PSG, Juventus. The only silverware US may get is the gold cup which is worthless in world football. All in all, it’s a terrible proposition to take the job. They will not even consider it for a second 😂

Not sure why Berhalter sub'ed off the players that were playing well in these games. His strategic moves to change formation and players contributed to the losses. Also, Berhalter should have stuck to his guns with Gio Reyna. That snub he got during the last world cup with Reyna's mother should have been dealt with by kicking Reyna off the team. Instead, he rewards dissent, and Reyna didn't play well anyhow.

The thing is, theses players aren't prepared for theses huge pressure situations....from childhood they are not exposed to similar situations i mean no pro/rel means no accountability for theses youngsters and pay to play just shrinks your talent pool in an extreme way... And yeah most of them are now in the top 5 ligues in europe but look at how. Pulisic is at best an above average player in milan, most of the rest are barely starting on mid table teams. How many of them went say to a champions league quarter final? Did the coach ever managed a champions league side? The truth is NOBODY at us soccer, players coach executives...non of them is built for it it is just the ever unreachable next level for them

For sure they need a new coach. Mourinho probably best fits this group. The USA always works with small margins. We have seen them barely get through groups at WCs. Here they failed. Obviously the refs in Copa America are not consistent at all. The Brazil- Colombia game was horrible last night because the ref had no control. Austria- Turkey was so much fun to watch, but the ref was competent. The Euro games are much more interesting and the refs( and the playing culture) are the keys.

The USMNT has always been average or below average. Let’s keep it 100 here. The kids playing in the USMNT are a bunch of guys who grew up playing in upper middle class traveling club teams.. pampered young men who don’t know what it means to play ghetto ball, who don’t know how it means to dream to play so they don’t grew up going hungry. How is the UMNT players going to understand the hunger to win over these other harder., more skilled players..(?) never. I have a son and a daughter whop play in a park district team, they play so well and so skilled, the local Soccer Club didn’t ask them to try-out.. no. I was approached to let me know my kids both have a place the club. ..because I can’t afford the registration fee. My kids will continue playing and developing at the park district level. Reminds me, of my childhood, growing up poor and a local man paying for me to play in this Club Team. Only reason I played in a Traveling Club team in the rich suburbs of Chicago was because of a man who by chance saw me playing with my brothers by the practice fields of this soccer club

If someone like guardiola became coach, the players and all the commentators would lose all ability to deflect blame to the coach if the team wasn’t successful. Someone like guardiola would have all the right to say they gave the players all the info to be successful and it’s not their fault if the players aren’t good enough to execute. And their reputation and paycheck will 100% support that that would be true. Lose all arguments to say that it’s on coach to get best out of the players, the coach is the best so at that point it must be on the players.

It's weird that people want to say managers see the US Side and think "No way, look at them (players)." when it is the opposite. What motivated Klinsmann was the opportunity to build and push forward. And he seemed to admire the attitude of the prior generation of US players from 2002-2010 that FOUGHT for everything it could get. Sure to be in the US is what it is for bonuses or negatives but they are driven by the challenge and it is a fascinating one. Getting a top coach for that - not an issue. What IS an issue is without a doubt, the USSF and dealing with MLS and the handcuffs and time-wasting of what is a dreadful old boys network that stretches all the way into 'pay to play'.

How exactly are they supposed to do that? Every FIFA international match date in 2025 is World Cup qualifying for all the European teams. CONMEBOL is using all the match dates until September 2025 for their World Cup qualifiers. Same with Africa & Asia. The fact is there are not enough open international match dates that the US can schedule quality opponents. It’s just a fact. I want them to play the big teams too. Once again delusional American points of view. Having big dreams of the US being a major powerhouse of soccer is just another meaningless gesture. You do realize this is 'THE WORLD SPORT". Countries have been striving for decades before the US could even spell soccer...and many of them have not made it. Holland and Belgium are light years ahead of the US and they cant seem to win. Tons of African teams which have some of the top talent in the world...far exceeding ANY American player ever....still struggle to get far in the WC. Think how far the US is from those nations. Yeah that's how far and unrealistic it is to think the US can run with the big dogs. Again, we need to be more like Scotland with our expectations at this moment, in that we just hope to nick a few games against higher rated opponents. Thats really all there is to be excited for.

i have a weak spot for the american soccer team, because your potential could be so great, not only the demographics, but also because of your (german-like) discipline and mentality.. and although quite some first team players are playing for top teams in europe, unlike for instance in '94 or '02, it seems to me that at key moments you haven't found the player(s) who can conduct the focus of the team as a whole when the momentum is against you. watching usa in the world cup 2022, it felt like this was a legit team, who should be taken seriously and who could measure itself with up against england or something, but i never felt the team would be razor sharp to force its will onto holland in the 1/8 finals for instance. with pulisic you finally have a talented playmaker, but i feel you need another top player, a 9 or a 6, or both, to reach quarter finals at the '24 world cup.
