Yes, the loops will protect you from the whole _driveshaft_ flying around in the cockpit of the car, but not from bits and pieces that may get thrown off. I like how Rob goes into detail about his build. For instance, showing how the bolt holes either line up, or don't line up, and what he has done to find an adequate solution. . . A trick for welding closed loops like that, drill a hole for the gases to escape, and then just weld the hole shut when finished.

@@Jake_Hamlin yes. Back purging whenever possible is a good idea. But on an enclosed loop like the drive shaft hoops there isn't a simple way to introduce argon into the inside. The heated expanding air inside of the partially sealed ring starts forcing its way out and blowing out the argon shield from the cup. Drilling a vent hole elsewhere would minimize this effect.

Glad to see the nylock and blue thread lock. My personal preference on driveshafts and axles is thread lock (blue for low HP, red for high HP) and schnorr washers. The combination has not let me down yet.

Unlike Rob, Hoonigans run a professional media business. They need a considerable backlog of material to ensure regular scheduled videos with no interruptions even if something unexpected happens. Like a drive train exploding during shakedown... That's why they filmed it so far in advance. It's neither a feeling nor fuckery, it's just how business is run. And to get a shot at racing the Hoonicorn, Rob has to abide to their rules. So of course we don't get to see anything before it's on their channel.

Glad to see you adding some more safety features to the car, especially driveshaft hoops which is a must on any kind of race vehicles. Also wanted to say a Huge Thank You...for the video about the Antigravity battery you used in your car. We build a ton of race cars for all types of racing and Hot Rods as well and when I seen your video about the battery and all its features we are/have been ordering them left and right. We were using another company and just wasn't happy with the product nor the service. So now we have been recommending and installing the Antigravity batteries and the accessories to keep an eye on them along with monitoring/logging them with the motec, haltech and now Holley systems. ARP drilled bolts and castle nuts with safety wire is basically the safest thing you are able to use, that setup allows you to create closed loop safety wire routing with almost certainty that even if something were to start backing out it could never physically fall out.

Picking a bolt with the proper length shank and cutting off excess threads can help with the shear strength. Offroad guys have been doing that for a long time. Car is coming along nicely 👌

Need bolts that have a smooth shank ( no threads) on the drive shaft flanges. The holes might not waller out but the threads on a full threaded bolt will flatten out and cause the same issues. Hope that makes sense. Cool to see you getting more into to fab and machining!

Welding next to a can of acetone is always fun, but nowhere near as much fun as using a HF press to install a yoke on a driveshaft when launching on fat tires at 7000RPM. Totally awesome seat of the pants approach! Love it and keep at keep on keep'n on
