I had the honor to speak at Harvard Hall along with Allen Wong. His speech is also available online. I spoke about various situations I've faced while starting a business.

Great video Rob, I appreciate sharing this to youtube for us all to enjoy. I want to say that this video is not inspirational to everybody. It shares a lot of hardships and challenges that come with the realism of life. However, for someone who has encountered a few hardships and is currently in a slump, this speech is insanely inspirational. Just because one person doesn't show up to sign a building agreement does not justify giving up. You fought to the top to achieve the right to buy that building. This dedication inspires me to really strive for my goals. I am also a car fanatic, I've owned many Mazdas, an rx-7 being one of them. You are an inspiration for me and have helped me push through the struggles to achieve the things I aspire. I really love your real world approach. As you said in the speech, how you aren't a motivator, telling people YOU'RE AWESOME, GOOD JOB, really helps me. Keep it up man. Once again, I greatly appreciate it. Take care.

everything in his speech is the honest truth. you're only going to be successful if you have the drive and determination to make your dreams become reality. becoming obsessed with something is the easiest way to become laser focused on a goal. if you're doing something you don't like just for the money, odds are it won't last long. if you want to build and "app" and become "rich" you better have 100% of your drive and determination into it, otherwise 9 times out of 10 its going the fizzle out and die not long after you started it and then you'll just be kicking yourself later as to your own failures. life doesn't make lucky people, you create your own luck and your own opportunities. only you and you alone are the reason for your successes and failures, and a smart person learns from their mistakes and moves on instead of dwelling on them and becoming self destructive, depressed, or creating self doubt. I've seen very smart people do very dumb things, and people with very little education create amazing things. drive, laser focus, thirst for knowledge, and a little financial intelligence are the only tools you need to get onto the path of great success. Good luck!

Dear Rob, I watched every single second of this video. You sir are a true inspiration to me and what I want to do with my life. I honestly hope you are able to read this. I'm currently 18 and about to graduate high school. I am like you in so many ways. I have the exact same love for cars except mine goes one step further. I want to race cars. And I don't want to be one of the ass holes that you spoke of where all it's about is being first. That's not how I see racing. It is my passion. I currently go part time at a tech school for Networking while also in high school. I've been that neighborhood kid that fixes all of my neighbors computers and run their networks since I was about 14. I do not plan on going to college simply for the fact that I can't stand to just sit in a class and look at a book. I'm a hands on type of person. I have so many interests in so many things. Simply in 3 semesters here at my Tech School I went from Computer programming to Engineering, now to Networking. And I hate it. I just like you cannot focus enough on one thing. Except for cars and racing. I'm stuck in a jam though because in order to race and have nice cars you and I both know that this requires money. Now I'm not here wasting your time asking for money or for you to hold my hand. But instead for a door. A door to allow me to pave down my path. I need guidance because I am stuck and don't know how I am going to live my life when society and everyone else wants me to do other things that I cannot conform to. This is simply a cry for guidance. Simply because you are the one person that I see that can help me. Like I said. I hope you can get to read this. I understand that there are already 71 comments before I even typed this so my chances are slim.

A long time ago I told Rob that I thought he was amazing, and that was only after watching a couple of his videos -- one of which was his somewhat scary, but funny picnic with him and a rotor. Sorry Rob, calling you amazing was an understatement. Congrats on your success and keep up the good work. You are truly an inspiration to all of us! If you are anything like a friend of ours (motivational speaker), you are going to be filthy rich. He owned a freaking mansion out in St. Louis' western suburbs (Nelly bought it a few years ago). The thing is, he didn't have half the personality that you do! Also, I'm looking forward to seeing you on the flip side! :-) Cheers!

another note: if you're trying to get rich for the sole reason to buy material possessions, get women, or have respect and admiration; I hate to say you'll be sorely disappointed. once you get to your definition of rich, and you've bought all your baubles, and artefacts, it quickly loses its novelty. like a quick high that keeps you coming back for more. you'll just look up to a higher pedestal where atop you have not yet reached, whose wealth you have not yet accumulated and whose possessions much greater. it's like a snake eating its own tail it just keeps going into infinity. why do you think rich people rarely ever retire? even when a few million invested passively pretty much insurers you'll never have to work again.. invest in your friends and family and the people around you, take good care of others instead of just yourself and you'll be greatly rewarded beyond anything you can obtain through financial means.

I take it you're giving this advice based on personal experience as a millionaire? Investing time into people is a big mistake as people have the potential to let you down and more than likely will at one point or another. When this happens, you will question whether all that effort spent on them was worth it. In this world the only person you can ever rely on is yourself. One should focus on achieving their own goals and dreams, whatever they may be. I've witnessed people dedicate their lives into a singular purpose such as becoming a professional athlete and they have so many achievements to be proud of as well as gaining admiration. Then I see those who invested their own invaluable time into others and what do they have to show for it? Well maybe they feel like good people but in reality no one truly respects them. I've seen so many people with the potential to accomplish great things who have thrown it away for a mediocre life. Why? Simply because they put someone else before them. It's always better to be a somebody rather than a nobody.

About your app: Do you program something like that yourself, or come up with the concept and then have programmers code it, or is it a collaborative effort? I was always an IT guy, and I got good at it also, but I wouldn't call myself a programmer, you know? I think i've failed more times trying to build a custom kernel/build the newest version of android for my phones more times than I can remember. (Then again I don't see that as being profitable at all, just something that's useful to yourself and that will give you a sense of accomplishment. Installing the newest version of andriod on my phone isn't useful per se but it feels like an accomplishment in the nerd department xD ).
