I think with where rob is at driving wise for the moment, I feel like some paddle shifters and sequential with all the perks that can come with it will really make a difference. Either that or he should definitely be tracking a slower car to get the fundamentals down a bit better. That car is absolutely mental and would be an absolute handful on track without a good solid base and track experience.

Also please please please start rev matching, or do some computer wizard shit and do something to auto rev match on downshifts, it hurts my soul. If you’re doing 150mph into a corner and downshift without it, you will upset the balance of the car and end up in the wall. We love you rob I don’t want to see you or the car in the wall🙏

I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed. Dude I'm amazed he never locked the wheels up. When I was learning manual 3 months ago I feel like it was about once a week I'd fuck up a rev match and lock the wheels up on a downshift. Rob is an incredible tuner. No one can take that away from him, but lordy if he's gonna be tracking these monsters I hope he specs more into his driving ability. Some of these downshifts are straight up fucking scary. And I'm not an experienced h-pattern driver at all.

@@connorcampbell5274 oh 100% man, I love him, and his content. He’s build incredible cars but he’s not a driver that can handles the cars he builds yet. Even some driving lessons on a track day would do wonders for his performance overall. Driving in a straight line is one thing, sending it around corners in a 1200hp+ monster is another and super dangerous without proper technique.

Rob I enjoy your channel and really appreciate how much you've learned about building things, but your track footage makes me really anxious. 😰 That shift from 5th into neutral at 10:17 is a shockingly bad habit that needs to be un-learned ASAP. Every moment spent fighting to get it back into gear at 10:23 was time you couldn't have used the throttle to control the car's behavior. My advice is to get a very underpowered manual-trans car like a Civic or a Miata, drive it daily in an area with 40mph speed limit and lots of stop signs that force you to slow down, and learn to rev-match downshift every single time you slow down. You should never be in neutral or riding the clutch when the car is moving.

yeah, surely he can afford a sim setup at home, that is perfect to learn heel toe, a great start would be the touge union servers in assetto corsa, the cars are fairly arcade and there are a LOT of tight corners to slow down for. but any sim/ track would be good. this is a skill that takes a lot of muscle memory to learn, it doesnt have to be in a real car to start with.

He's coasting in neutral not knowing what to do, then decelerating and upsetting the rear axle a lot while taking forever to engage the clutch again - it's a bit rough to watch yeah. It might just be me coming from a country where manuals are the norm and I heel-and-toe pretty much on the daily but still. It feels like waiting for him to spin off due to a bad downshift on corner entry any minute while he's on track. I absolutely love the fact he went with a manual transmission in the first place but his lack of skill with it will become more and more dangerous as he and the cars get faster and faster.

It just needs to maintain a higher gear to maintain a constant speed and change when Speeding up, or maintain pressure in the same gear, I don't know how the car's clutch + engine can handle it.Leaving gears makes it very easy to lose traction or even cause wheel speed to be disturbed.

Hey Rob it's great to see you rip the 3 rotors and having lots of fun! But please please please do not put your car in neutral (clutch engaged for long periods of time) and do something for your braking and lack of heel and toe. It feels very sketchy and it costs you an insane amount of time while also putting you on the wrong lines for almost every corner which also makes your own experience less enjoyable. Don't get me wrong though: all in all for the amount of seat time you've got it's not bad at all!

Hey Rob. Loved seeing the OG blue wall, definitely unlocked some memories. Hey mate, you want to be in gear before you enter the corner (before you start turning the steering wheel). Additionally, rev match your shifts, it stabilises the vehicle as well as easier on the mechanical side of the car. I can see the 3 rotor is a bit of a handful and there’s heaps of ducks to get in a row while driving the cunt. Maybe for safety, step down to a less powerful car and get the track fundamentals in ya pocket then jump back into it. You’ll get there mate, but your safety comes first. And lastly, put a cage in that car cause if (hopefully never) shit hits the fan you’ll need it, especially if your hitting those speeds. Someone said above about checking out some racing schools? Might be a good idea if you can find some. Best of luck mate. Love from down under. ❤

Looks like a blast! Rob, is there a reason you're not heel toeing? I assume you'd be in the know, but just in case you're not or anyone else who cares: when braking into a corner, you want to rev match so your car doesn't jerk and gets into power faster and smoother. This'll also help you know faster whether you've shifted into the right gear or not. You brake with the front part of your right foot and simultaneously reach over and blip the throttle with your heel when downshifting. It's a super natural movement after you do it a few times. I do it in normal driving all the time. After you get comfortable with it, it just feels like the right way to drive.

Hi Rob . Love the content. If you're going to do a lot of roadrace events you should get a gear ratio between 2nd and 3rd gear, and with all that power you don't need more than a 3.90 rear gear. I'd run a 3.73. Also a massive engine oil catch can with a back flow back into the lower part of the oil pan. Until you get the dry sump that is. Also with big brakes the stock master should be replaced. Hard to heal and toe without a rock hard pedal. 2010 Nissan GTR bolts in easily .

I've personally realised Heel Toe is actually quite easy to learn (definitely different to master!) My initial breakthrough cane with realising the blip doesn't have to be literally done with your heel. Sounds obvious but I was fixed on trying to use my heel as the name implies. Once I just started having a go with using my foot more comfortably it came along quite quickly. With the ball of my foot on the brake I tend to use the side of my foot just above my heel to blip the throttle.

My thoughts on this are two fold; First Rob should be refining and mastering his footwork in the car. Heel-toe will take him tens of miles further in his capabilities, not just for throttle blipping, but other applications as well. H-pattern is where he's going to learn the most in this regard and he should have that on lock. Paddle shifters and no lift sequential systems are not going to help his driving from my perspective. It will be a crutch rather than actually improving his raw, base skills. As for his downshifts, I don't know if anyone noticed his clutch drops weren't really drops, and the engine RPM did not increase significantly on full engagement. He was feeding clutch in under a small amount of power. Still not as good as blipping it, but at the speeds he was going, the torque wouldn't be enough to upset the car. The torque of a rotary tends from my experience to be a shadow of its torque under power. The danger down the road is him not learning to heel-toe the throttle for RPM match. Because he's going to push limits and better than breaking the drive train lacking that mechanical sympathy (which Rob doesn't really lack), or locking the rears with one of his rough shifts and losing control potentially, I agree he needs to better his footwork. Just the two cents from own experience with my own rotary doing things I shouldn't in places I shouldn't have. All that said, mine wasn't pushing 1200-1300 whp.

Sometimes I think Rob needs to get a reliable beater track car that does the job but isn't overpowered like most of his cars and just turn a bunch of laps in it on a regular basis. I might be in the wrong, but his track riding makes it appear as if he doesn't have a load of experience in this area and learning on generally very powerful machines is not the best way to do it. Sim racing also translates a decent amount so that's a decent option as well. Just to note that this isn't meant in a preachy way because at the end of the day, whatever makes him happy is what needs to be done. However, if he wants to genuinely get good at this, practicing on a regular basis in cars you're comfortable with genuinely leads to honing your skills and developing those small habits that are crucial for track driving.

It’s amazing how Mr. Dahm literally never has a sorted car. Goes to show you how complicated performance builds are.

Not to distract from the channel in anyway, but I’m super stoked to see a Mitsubishi starion pass by. That would be fun to have a rotor swap.

Reallocate some of your fabrication time to learning heel-toe! It'll make the experience on the track all the more enjoyable and sweet! How you've made it all these years driving all these manual cars without learning it I don't know, but now's the time

Don't even have to heel-toe, just some basic revmatching would help plenty. Maybe he got excited that everything is working so well and just... forgot...

5:17 thank god for tech guys who wanna let you race. Got a story to tell about my kill switch. Finally got it right, but two really nice tech inspectors let me race twice beforehand. 🙏
