I recorded a lot of cricket live through the 80s and 90s, had hundreds of tapes but have lost them all, they got binned when me mum couldn’t buy a new VCR. What a waste. Cheers for uploading this though, it's been long enough now that i can watch Warne bowl a spell and marvel at it instead of hiding behind the sofa. RIP Warnie.

Cricket doesn't feel the same to me after his sad death. Whenever I watch his videos I get both sad and happy. Happy because his art was so beautiful and sad because it hards now that he's no more. Warne was our most charming cricketer and our biggest matchwinner. May you rest in peace Warnie.

@@cricket023I loved watching our Warnie. He wasn’t perfect, he was human. Plenty of shit he got into, off the field, don’t matter. His on field magic made up for his indiscretions. I could watch all the available videos of him confusing the crap out of batsmen, over and over. Just brilliant

Thorpey, yeah, English great. Hick? Test average of 31. That's not even great by English standards. And I'm English 🤣
@muttleycrew2 жыл бұрын
@@tinysteelorchestra Okay, I said some *English* greats and Hick was from Zimbabwe and you imported him and he had to play mostly on English pitches as a foreigner. More seriously, you left out noticing that Warnie bowls against both Gatting and Gooch here. Particular interested in pointing to Gooch, whom Warne rated as the best batsman of spin he ever bowled against, so I stand by my comment.
@mrkipling22012 жыл бұрын
@@muttleycrew Warne said that Gooch was the best English batsman he ever bowled to. I can see why he would say that. If we hadn’t had Gooch playing in the 1993 Ashes series then it would have been 6-0 to Australia and not 4-1. If only he hadn’t been dismissed handling the ball !!

But to have a far better understanding you have to see the slomo of other bowlers too. Or else it's very easy to develop a biased view. I once had that problem. But when i saw videos of McGill or Mushtaq Ahmed or even Yasir Shah and just like you replayed the same delivery multiple times only then i developed a balanced view because only then i understood what made Warne better than them but McGill was very close in capability.

It's fascinating to see the tactical changes in almost 30 years from this upload. Batsmen using their pads to the spinners (both Warne and May) over the wicket and around. Spinners bowling around the wicket too - wich you hardly ever see these days. England scoring 116 runs in the day off just over 60 overs - but never boring!

That's why t20 has ruined cricket. Test match cricket is the pinnacle of cricket. A great cat and mouse between not just individuals but also as teams. The back and forth chess like play is the art of cricket. T20 is a market dream, fast, flashy and over in a few hours.

Wisden named Warnie as one of the five greatest cricketers of the 20th Century, based on what he did 1992-99. Amazing that he then took more wickets at a slightly lower average and in significantly fewer tests (65 v 80) during the 21st Century. LEGEND.

Abhay Singh He was a brilliant little batsman who averaged about 45 in a tough era. The only blot on his copybook for me is that he denied Alex Tudor a Test 100 at Lords by being selfish (Tudor was a no.9 who came in as night watchman and was 95 not out with 16 runs needed when Thorpe came in - 7 wickets in hand and New Zealand putting on part time bowlers. Thorpe decided to hit 15 not out and leave Tudor stranded on 99 not out... he never made a First Class hundred.)

Can you also upload the last hour of a thrilling drawn test like Australia vs West Indies at the gabba in 1992-93 or that of a dogged partnership between Peter Kirsten and Fanie Devilliers at Adelaide in 1993-94 or when Curtley Ambrose took 8 wickets in 1990 in the west Indies vs England in the last session.

Things like these should be uploaded by Cricket Australia themselves. Any footage of leg spin is gold but to learn from it, to really suck the marrow out of it, is to upload videos like these. It just shows leg spinners that wickets don't just pop up (usually). I've seen both of the wickets and never really thought much of it, mainly just good balls. To utalise the media and the era we live in, to bring spin out of the shit, Cricket Australia get off your arses and upload videos like this.
