When I was growing up in the ‘60s, the conversations that Ryan and Mr. Greene have today were commonplace. Now, disappointingly, they seem like outliers. Training the mind to THINK, not talk, has given way to cognitive dissonance and, let’s be honest, willful ignorance. When these two talk, I feel as if I’m on that famous “porch”, 2,000 years ago, soaking up the knowledge of that day’s intellects. It is so much more refreshing than hearing our so-called leaders lie to their constituents about a medical issue they have no training to discuss.

Thank you for sharing this conversation. One thing that struck me was Greene's assertion that we are "emotion-based"(10:00). It's my understanding that the stoics believe our essential nature is irrational one, and I'm surprised Ryan didn't challenge him on that idea If in fact his friend is a Stoic. Perhaps it's just a minor point, but I think what we believe foundationally about whether or not we are at our nature irrational or rational is important. And I'm not sure it's an either or proposition.

I love how he incorporates history into his work. Perspective is so needed. True, no one thinks in metaphors any more. Right. My granddaughter thinks the pandemic was the most horrible thing. I try to tell her it's nothing like the real ones that happened in the past like the plague or Spanish flu. My father was in the Army during WWII. People don't know it because it is so distant from their experience which isn't much when you're 18. I remember being 18 and it seemed so far from my reality. But having lived several more decades, I realize how much a couple decades changes and yet it's not so far removed from myself. Why our generations don't seem to pass on their experience boggles my mind. It's like if you don't seek out a book on your own the present seems light-years away. The present generations are not living in reality. Everything is magical thinking. No one wants to grow up. Scarry times. Logical thinking is out the window.

It’s interesting watching all of their talks ..it’s like listening in on elites being arrogant ..thank God I’m not struggling due to COVID but lots are; it’s possible for everyone to get through this but the reality is a lot of people don’t have the mindset or the strength especially after losing work or building up rent/mortgage/cc bills; they act like there is no consequence for living in fear and it’s easy to say if you have money/a mindset that can help you through this (it’s like liberals are obsessed with the haves and the have nots, yet there own thinking/beliefs/lockdowns are widening the gap that they claim to care so much about)

Robert Greene is simply not as smart as people make him out to be. The guy is in the same sort of leftist bubble that many people in the right wing bubble are in. He is just a bubble head talker masquerading as a liberated rational thinker. Still love him and love his books I read human nature twice.

@@Ivan_Lopez2024 I'm saying Robert is susceptible to the same delusion. its obvious by his denial of Antifa. Which is a result of the entire left and MSM denial of Antifa. It's pretty ridiculous. thats just one example i got more if you need

@@yiprajosie085 thats a fair point based on my comment but my use of generalization for convenience is necessary to be able to get to the point. there is a leftist bubble and a right wing bubble. thats not labeling its diagnosing.

Interesting take on slapping labels on others... which is really bizarre for anyone who identifies as a “stoic.” To identify democrat and stoic is like round hole square peg. Strange how both of these people don’t see their own cult mentality. This was disappointing

Absolutely! It seems stoicism became a new slogan to generate revenue. We should learn from the work these two created but be cautious and not believe everything that’s said.
