First Time I remember hearing this song was watching the Johny Cash Show and he and Bob Dillon played this song as a duet. Still today Love this song.. This version is Amazing!!!!! Would be amazing if Plant recorded this. Incredible arrangement and new take on a classic (so rarely done anymore).

The reason Dylan may not have written it is because it derived from Scarborough fair and is a timeless fable song similar to shakespeare. As in Dylan wrote it and talked about how he was was rewriting old stories and chords, as all musicians are. He justly kept retelling the mystiques of stories and everyone else kept retelling the cliches choruses. Dude knows how draw a sound picture !

To those who have written stating they think Tom Northcutt's version is the best out there, compared to Bob Dylan or Robert Plant, Northcutt's version sounds like Tommy James and the Shondells. This song is a romantic ballad for Christ's sake. It doesn't need backup vocals.

Of course you are definitely right because you know what music 🎶 is all about

I just went back and listened to this version again and he still sounds like a cross between Tommy James and Huey Lewis. Also the first image in the video is that of a county fair. Is it possible that he thinks Bob Dylan meant this when he wrote the first line, "If you're travelin' in the north country fair"?

Dos Genios de la música, no cabe duda la influencia de Dylan para posteriores artistas como los Beatles, Los Stones, jimi Hendrix, byrds, etc.

Lovely arrangement of this folk standard, popularized by Dylan, w/spot-on soloing.
@graric5 жыл бұрын
'popularized by Dylan' surely you mean written by? He took Scarborough Fair, reworked the opening line and kept the 'true love of mine' refrain, but otherwise it's all him. They have similar but distinct melodies and completely different chord changes, he was obviously inspired by Scarborough Fair but 90% of Girl from the North Country is his.

That ending was on purpose even better way to end the tragic song story so suddenly. So it goes.

What they cut off the very end of the lyrics lol teaser "in the brightness (of my day)", on purpose?!?!? Lol

Hate to break this to You, but most music today has something in it that was "ripped off"...i like to say "inspired", by someone else's notes or lyrics or vibe. That's how we learn and create. It's art. Just like with food...you take a recipe and put your spin on it to make it your own.

Eh I don't think this song should be electric. The whole point is the solitude felt by missing the woman
@jk777sdg9 ай бұрын
Also the arrangements nice but pianist was awesome technique but a bit out of place in terms of being overly hyper and notey, when it didn't peak or land at end dynamically. Just plonked and landed on the loudest chord he could. Also the mandolin trying to be Jimmy page w the sweeping arm after his solo was funny af for an acoustic version Beautiful groove happening w bass and drums
@carmenandthedevil28048 жыл бұрын
Average version of one of Mr Dylan's classics. "Nice and Sweet" makes The Girl from the North Country neat.

A voz do Plant não deu a emoção que essa música passa. Acho q não encaixou no seu timbre de voz.

He's actually got the nerve to question someone else's authorship? What an ass. He and Page ripped off half of their stuff.
@AniketKhanal20098 жыл бұрын
Well, that's because this song is much similar to the old English song Scarborough fair. I'm sure Dylan got this one from that English song
@onitram18 жыл бұрын
Has nothing to do with my point.
@AniketKhanal20098 жыл бұрын
It has. That's the reason he questioned the authorship of this song
@onitram18 жыл бұрын
Try again. My comment referred to his gall at questioning someone else when he and Page are the most notorious thieves in Rock & Roll, so your reply about what song Dylan may have based one of his on isn't germane.
@davidrisner40397 жыл бұрын
He may have been saying that Robert Zimmermann and Bob Dylan are different. This song may have been written before Bob ever even considered changing his stage name.
@moebees30605 жыл бұрын
Hey plant. Zimmerman has a novel prize in literature and you have a bunch of plagerism lawsuits.
