Lyrics
On waves of love my heart is breaking
And stranger still my self control I can't rely on anymore
New tide, surprise, my world is changing
Within this frame an ocean swell behind the smile, I know it well
Beneath a lover's moon I'm waiting
I am the pilot of the storms, adrift in pleasure I may drown
I built this ship it is my making
And furthermore, my self control, I can't rely on anymore
I know why
I know why
Crazy on a ship of fools
Crazy on a ship of fools
Turn this boat around, back to my loving ground
Oh, no, oh, no
Who claims that no man is an island?
While I land up in jeopardy, more distant from you by degrees
I walk this shore in isolation
And at my feet eternity draws ever sweeter plans for me
I know why
I know why

I fell in love with Robert Plant on February 16, 1969. I was 16 and went to a vanilla fudge concert. Another band, called Led Zeppelin, was the warm-up act. When I first laid eyes on Mr. Plant, I couldn't believe how beautiful he was and how powerfully he sang. Back in those days, we'd never seen a front man with long golden locks who wore open chest shirts and kicked ass with his vocals. Robert invented that. When I try to count all the blonde, big haired singers that imitated him since then, i lose count, I feel great knowing I saw the original in concert. Love you, Mr Plant ❤ You are the greatest!

I love that it's in my rotation of mix songs. I really like Principle of Moment's as well. Plant's solo efforts are what introduced me to how great Led Zeppelin is. I was just a touch too young to catch them the first time around. @@robertanthonyplant7539 how much of the lyrics did you write in both this song and then "Heaven Knows" off this same album. As per a percentage of your lyrics in both songs. It's my fave Plant solo album, which also came out the same year as Jimmy Page's solo album Outrider. The 12 string acoustic instrumental song Emerald Eyes (if memory serves. It's been years. 😆) is one of my favorite guitar melodies ever written. Walking to Clarksdale was a great album.

I also met him a few times in the mid 90s... actually hung out with him various times over the weeks he and the band spent in Pensacola preparing to start their tour. He was extremely kind, funny, rarely drank, smoked or used foul language. He carried this cool wallet from the 70s. Looked like something he'd picked up at a festival. Definitely handmade. I found it very telling of his personality. Pretty humble guy, actually, though he did say he remembers feeling immortal when he was about 17, overlooking the crowd that packed the stadium where they were playing.
