The Smiths were a Guitar Band in a Synthesizer Era, whereas The Cure were a Synthesizer Band in a Synthesizer Era. Morrissey & Marr were The Best Songwriters of their time, and Morrissey probably didn’t like Synthesizer Bands. I personally can appreciate The Cure, though I know The Smiths are a much better band. The Smiths have MORE great songs in a short amount of time than any other band in history, other than The Beatles. All that said: The Cure are WAY MORE popular in the US. For Instance: EVERYONE in the US knows SEVERAL Cure songs, and the average person in the US only knows “How Soon Is Now?” All in all: The Cure & The Smiths are BOTH excellent bands. You can’t really blame Robert Smith: A lot of people dislike Morrissey, and Morrissey dislikes a lot of people. So I can’t blame Robert Smith for disliking Morrissey.

Disintegration was The Cure’s best album where I’d they The Smiths best album was either The Queen is Dead or their self titled. Very different albums, the cure takes the more technological aspects of music with a lot of synths, effects, reversed notes, etc. whereas the smiths keep more to a raw, authentic band style of music. I love them both equally.

Top bloke! I'll give most music a try, but I've always hated Morrisey and The Smiths. Their "music" sounds like a pisstake! Morrisey IS arrogant, my BF worked on his tour as a truck driver and spot light operator, and Morrisey banned everyone - talent, crew and drivers - from eating meat on his tour! So, you can imagine how badly that upset those blokey-bloke truck drivers, being told there's no full English breakfast going to be served in catering! It cost them all a load extra, because they had to pay to eat elsewhere if they wanted to eat meat. Morrisey shouldn't have inflicted his principles onto other people - that's not the way to get them to change, it only gets peoples' backs up!
