Peter Zeihan is a geopolitical strategist and the author of four books, including most recently, The End of the World is Just the Beginning. In this episode, Peter talks about the civil unrest - and pending demographic collapse -- in China, why “Apple has refused to see the writing on the wall” in China, Mexico as America’s most important trading partner, why he is investing in commodities, and why -- despite the unraveling now underway in many parts of the world -- he believes “the American system will thrive.” (Recorded December 2, 2022.)

@@Zandiv US Navy was good for me, it was a job and a good one that gave me a lot of education for free. I also gained enough knowledge where I get to work from home after retiring from the daily grind at the age of 42. Peter is a liberal and he also has a man bun but there are many things I like about him also. Thats the beauty of my generation, we get along, we grew up at a time where work meant something. A world run by real men, that passed on really good lessons to the younger generations.

@@Baasicstuff I have no issue with anything you stated, but from watching Peter's previous 'reoorting", he's clearly a fraud - probably an intelligence asset - from China collapsing to Ukraine winning,. With explanations that require absurd mental gymnastics - unless the target audience is under informed or have a built in bias to trust. Watch programs like the Duran or Emil Cosman if you want to be informed about what's going on. Actually, just watch them as a comparison, and as always, choose what you like. Cheers. Oh, and thank you for your service. PS look up jingles, he does youtube vids for world of warships. He's an old salt like yourself. I suspect you'll like his content.

I've listened to Peter Zeihan being interviewed dozens of times. You did the best job by far. I found myself wanting to ask a question, and then you asked it every time, and you did so in intelligent, yet common sense ways that made listening to this easy and incredibly informative. You rightly praised Peter for his grasp of so much, but in Caddyshackese, you're no slouch yourself. You have a new fan.

⚠ With respect, sir.. You cannot be this naive! *PLEASE ...* Don't listen to ANYTHING that Peter Zeihan says,* much less his erroneous views and flawed geopolitical analysis on ANY current events, including absurd KZbin videos promoting Russia's demise and his dissemination of ridiculous Western Propaganda! *The reality is, Sanctions levied against* *Russia.. have had a boomerang effect on EUROPE and the U.S.!* Sanctions work effectively on small economies like Cuba, but they do not work well against large economies like Russia, especially those which are heavily reliant on oil and gas exports! Oil and gas are hot commodities, they're what economists call ‘fungible goods’, meaning they can be easily interchanged with another form of the same product. If they try to block Russian oil and gas exports, the U.S./ Europe, will have to buy from another producer and the countries that once bought from that producer will simply turn to buy from Russia. Supply and demand sorts it out. RUSSIA.. is rich in natural resources and they've been living with a windfall of oil revenues for years. Between 2011 and 2014, oil rarely slipped below $100 a barrel. Today we are seeing similar prices, but they are a very recent phenomenon. Since 2016, oil has rarely crossed $70 a barrel. For this reason, the Ruble is higher than its ever been in recent years! It is the energy market, not the "bluster" of Western politicians, that we should keep an eye on... The sanctions are - from a macroeconomic point-of-view, at least - "kabuki theatre." There are headwinds of dramatic change on the horizon... and a convergence of major historic upheaval in our era, that will precipitate, a "permutation & realignment" in geopolitical spheres of influence around the globe! Nations throughout the world, are about to experience a historic shift that is being implemented and The Great "RESET" which will reshape global economic, financial & socioeconomic conditions on an unprecedented level! *The BRICS nations alliance, including: Iran, Argentina, Brazil,* *Russia, India, China, and South Africa - are a MAJOR threat to* *Western Hegemony.* President Putin already announced that Russia, alongside China and other BRICS nations, were getting ready to launch a "new global reserve currency" made up of a basket of BRICS currencies. This reserve currency would be a direct threat to the currently dominant US dollar.. Taken together, the expanded BRICS countries currently produce around 26% of global oil output and 50% of iron ore production used to make steel. They produce around 40% of global corn production and 46% of global wheat production. If these were all traded in the new reserve currency, it would instantly become a cornerstone of the world economy... *and western leaders KNOW IT!!!* The Brit's, along with their sycophant, European counterparts, have such inept leadership who follow lock-step behind the reckless and foolish U.S. administration & feckless President, as they continuously fuel tensions with RUSSIA, while they simultaneously, play a dangerous game of brinksmanship with Xi and China; two superpower nations with highly advanced, Hypersonic Nuclear Missile Technology! The truth is, this kabul of warmongers, Democrats, liberals, elitists and reckless world leaders, who feed into & prolong this "PROXY WAR" will never allow Ukraine out of this nightmare... and they will lose! Which would immediately raise the obvious question of.. *"how did we ever get sucked into this political quagmire?* *Biden's foreign and domestic policies have been an ABYSMAL* *failure.. beginning with the debacle in Afghanistan!* *NEVER TRUST THIS ADMINISTRATION..* When Biden said don't worry about nuclear war...?? *everyone should have been down on their knees praying.* 🙏 BUT then, the administration purchases $290 million ANTI- RADIATION PILLS??!! *This is madness! ☢* The Western disinformation & demonization of Russia.. etc. all of the reckless vitriol, has *ESCALATED* hostilities and are clearly in preparation for a bigger war. The reality is that Russia Has Been warning about Ukraine for decades... *The West and their INEPT leadership should have listened...* *Russia has origins that go far beyond Putin. Russia has a foreign and security blob, just as does the United States, with a set of semi-permanent beliefs about Russian vital interests, which are rooted in national history. Yeltsin protested strongly against the start of NATO expansion in the 1990s and Russia accustomed itself without too much trouble to NATO membership for the former Soviet satellites in Central Europe. But from the very beginning of NATO expansion in the mid-1990s, Russian officials and commentators-including liberal reformists-warned that an offer of NATO membership to Georgia and Ukraine would bring "confrontation with the West" and an acute danger of war. These warnings were echoed by George Kennan, the original architect of the strategy to contain the USSR and the State Department’s greatest ever Russian expert, as well as by Kissinger and other leading American statesmen. *BUT THE FOOLISH U.S. WOULD NOT USE DIPLOMACY* after years of Putin's protestations about NATO expansion... so he invaded! Now, this regional conflict could "potentially" lead to a global conflict and escalate to Global Thermonuclear War! This past June, Zelenskyy admitted Russia occupied 20% of the country, or about 47,000 square miles. That's a territory about the size of New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware and much of Maryland combined. Russia still controls significantly more Ukrainian territory than before February 24. Putin’s army, holds whatever is left of Mariupol, all the intervening territory, and not only Luhansk and Donetsk, but the entire Donbas Oblast. Whereas Ukrainian authorities controlled approximately 60% of Luhansk before the Russian invasion & now Russian forces control over 80% of the region. They also have about 70% of Zaporizhye region. Cumulatively, this accounts for an increase of Russian occupied territory from approximately 7%, including Crimea, before February more than double that now. So even after the UKRAINIAN COUNTER OFFENSIVE... Russia still controls a fifth of the country *THEY HAVEN'T EVEN FULLY MOBILIZED YET!* The reality is the U.S. and NATO have sent BILLIONS of dollars to a corrupt country *WITH NO OVERSIGHT..* while these foolish leaders continue to only escalate tensions with not just Russia, but China as well. The heated rhetoric from the West has only accelerated this crisis, bringing Humanity closer to one miscalculation, that could conceivably lead to Nuclear Annihilation and things can very easily go off the rails! ☢ 🙏

@Annette Ryan I am apparently naive because I am still open minded enough to realize that no one has all of the answers, and if they did, if you did, you could act on your predictions and make billions of dollars in a short period. Not that money is the meaning of life, but hopefully you aren't too esoteric to miss the point. Also, one of the things I appreciate about Peter is his spare use of words. He makes his points succinctly and in ways that are easy to understand. I encourage you to take a course on communication. I tried reading your diatribe three times, and just couldn't make it through. As my speech teacher at Stanford told me (I only reference that to point out that I'm not a weirdo), say what you want to say, and shut up.

I have been watching peter for a few months now. I'm an engineer so occasionally I disagree on his engineering assessments. before I started watching him I started taking an interest in economics because it was economists who tend to interfere in everything engineers try to get done. There are 2 areas Peter doesn't discuss much at all. 1) Economic time bombs and there's a huge one that only just emerged in the last few days. NOT even economists are talking about it. I only saw this today. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nH2qfqt-brB5l5o The report from the BIS is available and its scary. 2) Energy generation is about to come smashing in on a whole range of countries. Because the energy transition has been smashed by various packs of clowns all claiming they have the solution when NONE OF THEM have *"THE"* solution. Either they are offering nothing of a solution at all or they refuse to accept they are offering only *"PART"* of the solution. As a result around the world are clusters of ageing power stations that will start to be shut down *THROUGH AGE.* Power stations are like anything else eventually they get to old to do what they were built for. They are like cars in that they eventually break down but they are totally unlike cars because you just can't go down to a used power station yard and buy one and take it home.

@Skylark Have you gone and watched that video and checked out the BIS report? I first thought it was WTF. But only a few days ago watched the 2010 Documentary "Inside Job" and that's almost 90minutes of hearing all the denials before the 2008 GFC. The Bank of International Settlements is one of those places we don't hear about much because the only people who do business with it are central banks. I had never heard about but it took very little to realise its one of the main parts of the entire global economic system. If the guys at the BIS are saying its a problem then *ITS A BIG FARKING PROBLEM.*

I don't know how old you are but you are talking EXACTLY like they did in 2007 and you are talking JUST LIKE they were about FTX a few weeks ago.

If you can only read three chapters, I would read Chapters 6, 7, and 8 from the Absent SuperPower which was written 8 years ago. Chapter 6 is about the current Ukraine War which is happening now. Chapter 7 is about The (next) Gulf war which hasn't started yet. Chapter 8 is about The Tanker war which also hasn't started yet. In both cases, the shoes are about to drop.

I just discovered Peter last week. Must have watched couple dozen of his interviews and speeches since. We all have a limited scope of real knowledge, and an even greater scope of beliefs where our real knowledge falls off. I noticed starting with myself, the less knowledge you have you fall back to talking about what you beleive in. And I seem to talk in simple, general terms when citing my beliefs. Whereas when I talk from my knowledge, I talk about specifics, numbers and facts. Notice our politicians more often talk in general terms...beliefs. Peter spends his words on facts, graphs, figures and in detail describes the logical connections between all these. Breath of fresh air after listening to our inept politicians for the past 40 years since I started watching the news in high school. So if this guy runs for president, I'm voting for him. He proves there are some capable Americans left.

Peter Zeihan is an extraordinary speaker. As commented at around 56 minutes he is able to marshal an amazing amount of facts while speaking for extended periods. I am 75 years old and. because of eyestrain, gave up reading books and started almost exclusively listening to audiobooks. I have learned to avoid books read by the authors. They are almost always bad even when the books themselves are quite good. An example of this is Maggie Haberman's latest book on Trump. Her reading of her book is terrible, almost unlistenable in my opinion. On the opposite end of the spectrum are Douglas Adams readings of his Hitcher's Guide books, absolutely marvelous. Peter Zeihan's reading of The End of the World is Just the Beginning is in later category. It is incredibly well read, there is no feeling that he is reading from a book. One thing that I notice about Peter Zeihan is that if I close my eyes while listening to him speak I swear that he sounds just like Jon Hamm. Maybe that is just me.

Been watching Zeihan and reading his new book on the side and it's intresting perspective. But remember the golden ages are always followed by the dark ages, and if what Zeihan is proposing comes to fruition, even if it's bad if we can get through it together it will be worth it. As he said it's a readjustment period as we enter a new phase of history.

Look up the technology; keep in mind tech revolutions that once took centuries now occur every few years. I disagree with many things Elon Musk says and does however, the vertical integration, Giga-press based and highly automated assembly lines,.ability.of employees to make fr.dwpartment to department and between Tesla and Space X, will eventually become the structure of most companies. Keep this in mind while reading about the tech singularity.

52:23 Analog chips are also silicon. I guess you mean analog in the sense of magnetic tape, variable resistor pots, 8-track tape, gears, rubber bands, transistors harvested from old machines, vinyl records on a platter, steam power, optics using lenses and gears, mechanical oscillators, VCR video tape, Kodachrome film, paint, clay, incandescent bulbs, spring mechanisms, magnets, slingshots, knives, bow and arrow, catapult.

Let me try. Digital refers to on/off, ones and zeros. Analog is simpler, where a whole spectrum or symphony passes through a single wire at the same moment. At the far end all but the important part is filtered out. Radar, Sonar and yes vinyl records are good examples of analog because of the variations of frequency. I think you left the barn at slingshots, knives, bow and arrow, catapult. Anything broken down into a series of unchanging highs and lows is digital.
@morpher44
@morpher44 Жыл бұрын
@@stephenlloyd3064 single wire. Nah!. You need at least 4 wires for stereo. I refuse to go back to mono. Each channel has two wires powering a speaker or headphones, etc. Nicola Tesla did mess around with single-wire transmission, but he used the Earth's ground as the return -- which is the 2nd wire. He probably got the idea from Stubblefield (of Earth battery fame). In the video game virtual reality, we have digital bows and arrows, slingshots, knives, etc. In the real world, we have physical versions of same. The analog versions require lots of training and hurt more. 🙂

Me again. For stereo I totally agree qualitatywise. Had a quad system in the '70s that spoiled me rotten. Still collect big speakers I will probably never use. The first serious gaming computer was stereo but a lot of early computer models were mono back when sound was a new feature. We live in an analog world. Computers "think" in digital format. Crossover chips like analog to digital - digital to analog are everywhere. Modems and video processor boards are perfect examples. High speed signal transmission lines (wire and optical) combine different digital signals carried at different frequencies at the same time (bandwidth) to cut back on the number of wires required.

At around 20:00 and it reminds me that I just recently visited Canada. It was stunning to see mostly native-born Canadians living on the streets, if not they live 6 in a home sharing bedrooms like children would, there is no place to rent even if you could afford 90% of your monthly income on it. At the exact same time, they cannot build condos fast enough. Apparently Covid was unable to go near those sites as locals said they didn't slow for a minute for the last 3 years, as fast as they can build. All condos have 2nd generation agents (or some foreign born) and locals say they don't really do 'showings' or 'sales' as almost every unit is pre-bought via overseas buyers who rarely need more than some internet computerized photos of what the condo will look like when done. The sales prices were stunning. really, no Canadian working person outside of maybe high salary surgeons or top 5% salary level Canadians could buy those (or.. some could in theory but will be house-poor mortgage slaves, couples who both work for the mortgage). I think I have some pictures or video clips where you can see these condo units (almost exclusively sold to overseas buyers) with Canadians slumped over bus stop benches outside the units or laying in blankets on the ground. Locals pointed out there is ZERO beds in any homeless shelters. At best they sleep in the hallways hoping someone dies or gets arrested to free up a bunk bed. It was normal, normal typical life, to find 4 grown adult Canadians, not 20-somethings but 50s, 60s, strangers but who shared rent on only one floor of a house paying about 40% of their salary per person. One condo made the local newspaper as being the first one in what is really a very remote, formerly a kind of backwater dirt road area, it sold for over 1 million and it was a tiny condo. The new owner was an unnamed buyer from India who purchased it long-distance but planned to move in somewhere in the next year or two. It's not unusual to see 100 condos, all sold where 30% are empty as the overseas owners haven't immigrated yet etc. Yes, it's also true that very few of these people work in Canada. Not long ago Canada even made a 'fast-track' if they'd open a business with the belief that they'd, at least, hire a Canadian or two (who'd pay taxes etc) and they found it was nearly ZERO. Actually, they'd hit the minimum 1-person hired which would be... the son or daughter who ran the gas station/convenience store during the day. They found almost statistical zero paid in taxes (most don't have jobs and most businesses are purposely money-losers or break-evens). Canada is indeed topped off and at the end now.

I actually had the opportunity to see Robert Bryce in Tulsa, several years ago. Just discovered Peter a few days ago, and thought that Robert and him would be a very good chat. How lucky is this? Speaking to the Russians shutting in wells. I dont think they will shut in their wells, en masse, i think they will attempt to build temporary storage (open pits), first. Those will eventually fill up, and they will start to run it out onto the ground, and/or they will fill up those pits, to the top, and then rain will cause them to overflow, its gonna be a disaster. Eventually the wells will fail, but who knows how long that will take.

I've been studying people who appear to be intellectuals, and sometimes are, my entire adult life. I don't try to emulate them, but try to understand their thinking processes, and view them from a critical thinking perspective, searching for analytical flaws. I know it is a peculiar hobby, but in my opinion, it is more interesting than bird watching, a hobby many enjoy. Ziehan caught my interest because while he comes across as intellectual, knowledgeable, confident, and cognitively expeditious, he is wrong at least 50% of the time (flip a coin). For example, he sees China in a rapid decline, and sees the US in an ascendent projectory over the coming decades. His China decline narrative is his most promulgated, and essentially as absurd as arguing that the world is flat. China in decline and the US on the rise is something the majority of the public will want to believe. Most such people will seek out someone like Zeihan to indulge their confirmation bias. But a knowledgeable intellectual thinker knows that is nonsensical. It took a little time to figure him out, but my conclusion is that he is a con artist, and a good one. In college, the colloquial was bullsh-t artist. One major characteristic of such people that he exemplifies, is that he never pauses to think, is never uncertain, and articulates the appearance of an informed answer to every question, regardless of the subject. He knows how to project himself as someone in the know, and knows what narratives will draw attention, then he portrays himself as an expert in the subject manner of that narrative. He plays this game well and drums up click bait and interest. I don't see him as any worse than some of the many pundits (cons) on news platforms that get paid to give credence to whatever nonsense the media is peddling, but unlike them, he is essentially his own news platform.
