This is great for the shade tree and first timers. He explains everything thoroughly so you should have no problem following this. I did it in less than an hour following the steps here and another 15-20 minutes doing the belt. Make sure you have a nice thick block of wood to jack up the motor when changing the belt.

Excellent video. Really helped me out a lot. Real knowledgeable guy. Showing how to bleed the block was inportant. This is the kind of thing a lot of mechanics just skip over.Subscribing today. Thanks

mainly just scraped it, once scraped you can use a wire brush to clean it better i have a small wire brush the size of a tooth brush... having the correct tools is part of the job. so if you don't have a scrapper they are cheep pick one up

Well its been an issue before the repairs. I just bought it in january. The thermostat that was on the right side of the engine. If you are standing in front of the car and looking at it. By the fuse box. I just started the process of elimination by fixing what could have been wrong and still does it. Fans dont kick on when engine gets heated, but they run when a/c is on.

@killman1971 good point, hoses and overflows are always a good place to start when troubleshooting coolant leaks, thanks for the compliment

@JLY2258 your welcome, not 100% sure about that. i always put things back in the same order. plus if you look it makes more sense for the routing of the hose so they don't cross over each other, i believe that was brake and parts cleaner i used, hope that helps thanks for the coment

Just do not drop the little valve on the air bleeder down in the engine . If you are lucky , you will hear it hit the driveway & find it . I was not that lucky ! :-( ( Hint , do not unscrew it all the way . ) Wyr God bless

THIS VIDEO WAS VERY HELPFUL CAUSE I AINT KNOW SHIT ABOUT CHANGING A WATER PUMP THANKS FELLAS
@MrPrawoJazdy12 жыл бұрын
It is, isn't it? Sorry I didn't reply in time, glad you figured it out. For those wondering why you need to jack the motor, you remove a motor mount to change the belt, so the motor is going to lean. This is bad for the motor on so many levels, so you need to support it. The block of wood keeps the jack from damaging the oil pan as it rests on the jack with the weight of the motor.
@lucasmcnichols283911 жыл бұрын
could be the Thermostat Housing or a leaky hose. Mine was the Thermostat housing, the O-Ring was faulty. You can usually see wet spot right under it on the driver side of the engine.
@JLY225813 жыл бұрын
Thank you Will for the video. Just now saw it. I have two questions? Does it matter if the 2 smaller hoses to the overflow tank get switched when reconnecting, and What did you use to clean off the pulleys of antifreeze mixture? Please keep the videos coming! Thanks again.

Brake carb cleaner or alcohol on a rag

@DJTailSpin96 Note that the final N-Bodies such as Aleros, Grand Ams, and Malibu have a coolant reservoir tank with a hose that can puke coolant all over the accessory drive end of the engine if either the reservoir cap is bad or the reservoir tank where the reservoir cap threads onto is stripped out. These are very common problems on these cars especially with their age and mileage. P.S. Nice video Robinsonauto.

Very informative, thank you. Maybe by any chance do you know, what tool should I use to remove A/C clutch (rattles when A/C is off) on these Malibu's ('99 to be exact). As far as I know, these are pressed in types (maybe I am wrong ?) and to remove the clutch you have to attach special tool to the compressor shaft and pull the clutch back. Tried several tools from Autozone, couldn't crew to the shaft - a bit too big, Chilton doesn't have that info (don't wanna replace the whole compressor)...:(

my sister tells she has to keep on adding coolant to her 02' Malibu because she is losing it all the time. Do you think it's the water pump or a head gasket leak or the thermostat housing???
@carlwillis55055 жыл бұрын
You need to provide wayyyyyyyy more info than this. 1. Is it leaking on the left side of the engine (when looking under the hood)?? 2. Is it leaking from the right side of the engine (when looking under the hood)?? 3. Or is it coming out the exhaust pipe (ie: white smoke)?? 4. Is it leaking from the center area of the engine compartment (doesn't matter if you're looking at it from the engine compartment or driver seat, as the center will always be center)............ 1a. The water pump in on the passenger side. 2a. The thermostat is on the driver side. 3a. Will be a blown head gasket (most likely) 4. Chevy has a fucked up heater hose design that uses plastic quick connect hose couplers at the firewall that break ALL THE TIME. remove them, and hose clamp the hose directly to the metal stub.

I gota disagree with the other two, not great, not horrible either - Chevy has had intake gasket problems with these things for a long time and done nothing to resolve it. Not a huge problem if you catch it quick and get it fixed, but usually that's not the case. Looking at a used one I can't imagine you'll find very many of these out there that aren't already knockin. Most of them went till about 170,000 miles. There are some other older Chevys that do better, like the Lumina went past 200,000 usually. Also if your a Chevy guy... why wouldn't you just get a Impala or a big Buick boat? They are known to be about as good as Chevy gets for cars.
@wyrtwister42607 жыл бұрын
We have had at least 4 , maybe 5 Luminas . The 3.1l was a good engine . Has some problems with the transmissions , which may have been avoided if we had of had them serviced . Can not say about the Malabu . Wyr God bless
