Correction: mClassic is actually amazing on N64 if you have an EON super 64 with the "slick mode" smoothing feature on. Slick mode + mClassic on N64 looks so smooth and clean. UltraHDMI mod actually makes the image too pixelated imo.
@RobNoireGaming4 жыл бұрын
To each their own. You can get the same result as the EON adapter with the Ultrahdmi by setting it to 480p and changing some of the settings. Super blurry lines on a low resolution graphics is a yikes for me though. I personally prefer pixelated.

@@RobNoireGaming N64 Digital is a better mod then Ultra HDMI. It has more smoothing options wich makes it look better. Adding Mclassic with it on 480p gives better results then having it on 720p or higher. Less rough edges and not too much pixelated, wich overall gives better details to everything. I was a founder of the Mclassic over on Indiegogo, and I decided to get a Mclassic for one reason and that is. So I can play MGS4 with it. The Mclassic is the only way to get use as close to that remaster as possible. And it looks very impressive. I can see all the detail in Snakes moustache now. Haha! The Mclassic also gets rid of the horrendous blur to the image on games that used the Quincunx AA method on PS3 Games like Orange Box and GTA4. They look very good now. Mclassic cant get rid of stair stepping on certain things like phone lines and lamp posts though. If they do another iteration of the Mclassic though. Maybe we'll get more AA. @@RobNoireGaming By the way. If your playing a 1440p game on PS4 Pro or One X. You should start the game in 4k, then switch to 1080p. The game will then be Super Sampling, the Mclassic will then upscale back up to 1440p adding even more clarity and detail. It looks better than a normal 1440p upscaled to 4k. 1440p or lower doesnt look as good as it should upscaled to 4k. Doom Eternal is a good test for this. Jedi Fallen Order you would do this with as well. As its 1260p dynamic. So if you Super Sample it. You can make it look better than the 1440p on the One X version. Only on a 4k TV will you have to use this trick, if starting the game in 4k then switching to 1080p to force Super Sampling. On a normal 1080p TV you will just have the Super Sampling option on and it will work across the board. I believe on a 1440p TV/Monitor you'll have to use the start at 4k and switch to 1080p while playing a game trick also. But not sure. My TV cant do a 1440p image. Just 4k and 1080p. So you'll have to check this out to see. Hope this helps.

The wii U is a great candidate for the mclassic. Your problem is that youre not setting the games to play at their native resolution and allowing the console to do the upscaling hence messing with the image before the mclassic gets to. If you use an OSSC for older titles and play last gen games at their native resolution (720p), you'll get a great picture combined with the mclassic

Yeah the 1440p upscale is random. But I get it. It's a compact upscaler that you power from USB. So there needed to be a compromise somewhere. It's also HDCP 1.4. It also cant do RGB at 4k. Only YUV420. So hopefully RGB at 4k will be possible on the nxt model. I'm happy with what it does though and for the price it's a steal I think. As it works across multiple systems. No other Upscaler/Converter works across a big number of systems. They cost like 150 and are made for one system. So the Mclassic's definitely worth it.

Your capture card does not capture 4K. It has a 4k60 and HDR passthrough to monitors/tvs, but it is still limited to 1080p for capture. Also, the reason people are told to set their Switches to 720p (or 480p for pstv) is because of many games using dynamic resolutions or those that render oddball resolutions natively, making the consoles have to internally upscale. Breath of the Wild renders at 900p in docked mode for example. Running in 720p forces the console to not upscale, which leads to better performance on most games and allows a more consistent performance from the mcable/mclassic.
@RobNoireGaming4 жыл бұрын
My capture card does do 4K output in OBS and shows the input regardless of what it is outputting - which is why I zoomed in to show the input / output. Using an Xbox One X, it shows the 4K input and 1080 output. with the mclassic, everything I tried maxed at 1440p in 1080p out. For the 720p upscale yes your right, but for most games there’s not a visible difference, which is what I touched on.
@WllKiedSnake4 жыл бұрын
You can just turn the Mclassic's switch off and on to see if the the image quality changes or if it stops upscaling to 1440p. Then you'll know if your getting its improvements.
@UnknownUnknown-vr2kt4 жыл бұрын
first off, Don't do 720p for recording purposes, viewing purposes yes, but for 900p games go to Switch output settings and shrink to 83%, this makes the switch natively output 900p within the 1080p output, with the mclassic this increases it to 1200p, if you have a way of zooming this in (hopefully you do) then do that, it'll look better than taking the 900p, downscaling it to 720p, then upscaling the 720p to 1440p.

Absolutely. Smaller screens with increased pixel density aren’t quite as easy to notice the difference on. The biggest difference I have personally seen is on my 65” 4K tv, 1440p upscaled on it (+the other benefits) looks massively improved compared to 720p or even 1080p

@@RobNoireGaming but having played my Switch on my 1440p 27" dell I can notice an increase in clarity on things like text and character outlines that otherwise had gnarly aliasing esp in Xenoblade Chronicles and Astral Chain but I would imagine this would be very title/artstyle dependent. And different engines use various AA methods that may not play nicely with this unit. Especially if its FXAA where it pretty much vaselines the entire view area. This is something that does not get mentioned too much since in cases where AA is already present you would only be making things worse applying the post-process from this unit on top. I found in some title using a Darbee unit made a bigger impact on IQ than the mCable Classic because it works on extracting additional color info per pixel to add more depth to the image vs applying edge AA and a pseudo DoF effect that they describe on the original gaming edition cable page.

@rstrn8s2 жыл бұрын
Tried a bunch of Wii adaptors and they all had faint diagonal lines that ruined the image. The Mayflash adaptor looks a lot like the other cheaper adaptors, about 1/3 smaller but the picture is perfect and the price is far less than any other high end hdmi console adaptor. They should redesign it so it stands out from the budget adaptors. With the mClassic to buffer the jaggies games look really good.

Actually, I have been thinking of another use case. Which is using it not for a console, but a budget PC or raspberry pi kind of environment. There are cases that the user wouldn't be able to upgrade the CPU of GPU, but still would like to play at 1080P with a decent framerate. Unfortunately in this case the user has to lower the resolution to maintain proper framerates. I was wondering if you could test this as well?
@RobNoireGaming4 жыл бұрын
It could work, I don’t personally own a Pi, although I do own a modern, slightly old, and very old PC. I did test on all 3 and i did notice improvement to the older PCs (resolution bump to 1440p and improved graphics for the most part). It probably would have been a bigger step up if the older pcs could have output HDMI without needing adapters. It gets a bit complicated with PCs though since in terms of graphics, there’s a lot more settings to dial in how you want compared to consoles

Does this do 4k/60hz passthrough? If i were to hook this up to the output of my hdmi splitter so that i can have the switch, ps4 and pc go through it. Would that then mean that my 4k/60hz monitor would recieve 4k/30hz when using the mClassic on purely passthrough mode for the pc output? It wouldn't make using it impossible if the answer is yes. I just like convenience and knowing if i don't have to swap it between devices is handy.

Hey mate. You are the only person who covered Wii2HDMI’s in depth. I bought, through a friend, the Sewell because of you and it is incredible. However, I cant buy any more of them as they seem to be sold only in the US and dont deliver to Where I am. Could you indicate other models as good as the Sewell sold on Aliexpress or perhaps make a video on the more expensive ones in there compared to the Sewell? I bought 2 there that, instead of tapping the component signal(like the Sewell does) tap the composite signal :S Cheers. PS: for the ps2, use a new cheap hdmi adapter from Aliexpress ( those black ones that look like a small dongle) it simply converts the component signal to HDMI, and get OPL on your memory card. Then, you can force certain games to go 480p. I do this and looks great.

Hey I do plan on revisiting the Wii2Hdmi in the future (to compare with some other Wii video options that have come out since) but it would not be in the near future unfortunately. The Mclassic still holds up for sure, I use it pretty regularly - haven’t touched the mCable in awhile though. What is the reasoning behind the games not being improved at 480p vs 1080p? Many other channels claim 480p will give you a maximized result for Wii and GameCube games. Also, if I have my Wii U games running at 720 and up scaled using the mclassic, does it look the same as the console natively outputting 1080p? I’d like to know because I’d rather avoid switching my Wii U from one resolution to the other for convenience sake.
@RobNoireGaming3 жыл бұрын
Essentially the Mclassic can only do so much. The better you feed into it (to an extent) the better it comes out the other side. If you feed in a blurry mess vs a sharp one, the blurry mess is still going to look worse after all is said & done. I went in expecting the opposite, but as shown in the footage, it was almost always the case that the better resolution going in = better coming out. For specifically the WiiU / modern consoles it’s hard to say - a lot of games run internally at 720p upscaled to 1080p, those would look better with Mclassic if left at 720p. The ones that run natively at 1080p will look very similar, but would look better left at 1080p, especially if your tv/monitor is 1440p or 4K. On a 1080p screen, the difference would be negligible.

The early / mid 3D era consoles (like the Wii, GameCube, etc) are where I saw the most improvement as well. The benefits are a lot more minor on consoles that natively do 1080p+, but are there. It also depends on the game + your TV/Monitor’s resolution (shows up more on 4K vs 1080p, etc)

It works, as long as what you’re putting in is a supported resolution over HDMI, the device it’s connected to doesn’t really matter. But the higher the quality of signal you put in, the better it looks on the other side, meaning if it looks pretty bad coming out of the converter, it’s just going to look a little less bad with the Mclassic hooked up at most.

You’ll need to convert the signal from the output connector to HDMI. Typically this means either using a dedicated Component to HDMI converter, or a specialized cable that plugs into the output connector of the system and does the HDMI conversion internally.
