All actors in this film are Polish. As for comedies, there are dozens of cult ones, created in the times of socialism or after. But check out Polish cinema, not necessarily comedies, for example "Ashes and Diamonds" - 1958. If it was made in Soviet Russia, the actors and the director would go on long holidays to Siberia.

Greetings from Poland This film is a classic of Polish cinema. A piece of good cinema, a great comedy on the one hand, but also a touching film on the other, with great acting, with an unforgettable role of the unfortunately deceased Marian Kociniak. I doubt there is anyone over 20 or 30 in my country who wouldn't watch this film.

Gestapo officer cameo is played by Emil Karewicz who, between 1967-1968 played unforgettable role of... Gestapo officer, SS Sturmbannführer Hermann Brunner in TV series "The stake greater than life". Brunner through the whole serial was an antagonist of the main character, polish spy functioning as a german officer Hans Kloss, in the counter intelligence unit Abwehr. Serial was played by the hugely talented theater actors, also the plot is great. You wan't regret this.

Funny is that historically speaking the scene also has lots of sense. Administration in Poland before WW2 was a mess. You had 17 vojvodeships with around 120 poviats (disctricts) so there was lots of searching on the map. Fun fact the place completely made up. But it took the Germans quite a while to notice it. PS - I am glad you noticed how impeccable Emil Karewicz's German accent is. He was a great actor

A lot of slavic native speakers have no problem with other western languages. Eastern are a bit difficult to us, because they are so similar and we have a tendency to pronounce them "easy way". I just wonder what asian people think of other languages (Chinese, Korean, Japanese etc.)

When you know or your native language is from slavic group, learning polish isn't difficult. All slavic languages are similar. But it's also very tricky, because you can find a lot of similar words, but with very different meaning.

The best polish comedy for me in 1990-2005: "Killer", "Czas surferów", "Haker", "To ja złodziej", "Chłopaki nie płaczą", "Vinci", "Wesele", "Dzień świra", "E=mc2". In Polish, the combination "rz", and the letter "ż" (grammatical difference in spelling due to the peculiarity of the language) is pronounced like the French pronounce "J" (as in "Je t'aime" - I love you in French), "sz", and "cz" are kind of like English "sh" and "ch", but harder (with the tip of the tongue rolled back towards the upper palate) Finally, "ę" is like a ringing "e" (imagine hitting a guitar string that goes "twang"). so try Gjegoj' Bjętchyshtchykiehvitch

I recommend watching "Day of the Wacko" or "Dzień świra". It's a dark comedy, basically a day from life of a Squidward with OCD in early 2000s Poland. It's considered to be one of the best Polish movies ever made, and it's pretty short, only 90min.

In the second part of the film, an English soldier asks the general where the main character comes from, to which the general replies: "I don't know. Probably some Slav. They rustle so much". Just a little clarification: "C.K. Dezerterzy" obviously takes place in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The C.K. stands for Imperial-royal (kaiserlich-königlich in German cesarsko-królewski in Polish), an adjective applied to all the governmental institutions in Austria-Hungary. It's one of my favorite movies ever. Fun fact: the whole Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz scene was inspired by a scene in the original "C.K Dezerterzy" novel by Kazimierz Sejda from 1937.

Hands down, one of my favourite movies of all time. Some polish movies like this are just iconic in our country - sometimes because they're that good, sometimes because of such small scenes/quotes that you just can't simply forget. But honestly I think that's the older movies thing really. Fun fact from a bit different movie - polish version of Shrek (and other movies translated by Bartosz Wierzbięta) does have some extra jokes (I mean something straight out of the original script) that only Poles could get it, understood and/or recognize.

Emil Karewicz... (the actor playing the SS officer's part). A great Polish actor. He lived very close to my Grandmum's house for a time. BTW - I just watched his part in "Selekcja" TV-theater show. He played an American police commissioner . I bet his idea of spelling English names would hurt you... :)

This comedy is genius but unfortunately even you will find it with subtitles the send of humour is not always translatable. For example there is a scene when he walk under the bridge full of German patrol and he hold his hands on the bridge so one of the soldiers stand on his fingers so he shouted in pain “palce” which means fingers in Polish and Germans heard it and repeated “pance?” which is tank in German and the war has started and everyone was running like crazy shouting pance.

that why you dont watch films with dubbing but witch subtitles.... and you know what mean this word in your language and for both side what mean this "sound"/word what they hear:/ in american film (and many others) you see it many times and you have enought brain to get what it mean in your native language, and their languages when you have joke with "misunderstanding" words -.- he will not watch with dubbing "finger" >"tank" but pl-de dialogues palce>panzer... he is not deaf XD btw in PL TV you have sometimes subtitles for other languages in this filmXD

Tam jest i tak piękna scena, a mało kto ją dostrzegł. Kiedy ,,Bruner'' odrywa Orzełka z rogatywki Franka i rzuca jak śmiecia, Franek Go chwyta. Bruner uderza w dłoń Franka czymś ciężkim (już nie pamiętam czym). Franek syknął z bólu, puścił Orzełka,ale po chwili złapał znów i przycisnął do piersi. Piękny motyw.

The mentioned movie is almost 4hrs long. Divided into 3 parts ( each roughly 1h 20 minutes ): 'Escape', 'To arms!', 'Among allies'. It'a a comedy set up during WW2 and presents a lot of stereotypes about foreign nations that were popular in 60's- 70's in Poland

Sporo mamy bardzo dobrych komedii. Wszystko co nakręcił Stanisław Bareja to klasyka Polskiej komedii. Zmiennicy, Alternatywy 4 to dwa seriale. Absolutna klasyka to Miś, Co mi zrobisz, jak mnie złapiesz, Brunet wieczorową porą, Poszukiwany, poszukiwana. Do tego inne Polskie genialne komedie jak Seksmisja, Kingsajz, Killer, Killer 2, Chłopaki nie płaczą, Dzień świra, Kariera Nikosia Dyzmy, Sztos, Poranek Kojota. Niestety od jakiś 15 lat jest bardzo słabo z polską komedią.

Dear Rob, this scene have build up another joke that only Poles will get this. Actor that played 1st German (Emil Karewicz) is very well known (maybe mostly known) from TV Show where he plays main evil character, and the main hero there was "Hans" so it's a double joke. It's the most iconic comedy scene in our country :)

in the story the guy made up his name and birthplace to confuse the gestapo officer. his real name in the movie was Franek Dolas, but there are absolutely some confusing polish surnames lol
