Initially their name was Overdrive. The band adopted the name Ugly Kid Joe when they were in Santa Barbara opening for the band "Pretty Boy Floyd". The name, of course, is a parody 😂 Amber nailed the meaning of the song. It's totally about teenage angst.
@johncampbell756 Жыл бұрын
Edit: parity = parody. Parity means equality. :)
@erikthompson619 Жыл бұрын
Actually, the song isn't about teenage angst at all. It's simply a tongue-in-cheek shout-out to the band's friend Daryl, notoriously anti-everything. Thankfully, he got the gist and was amused, not offended, by the song.

Well, _supposed_ to open for them. The show ended up being cancelled but the name stuck around. To the benefit of both bands in the end I think. PBF got some press and Overdrive got a better name. Though I think the name Overdrive had already been ditched. That was supposedly the whole reason the name UKJ came about in the first place. They had this gig lined up but were scrambling for a name so they "inverted" PBF's name as a temporary solution.

“That was so ODD!” 😂 One thing to know about Ugly Kid Joe is that many of their songs are sarcastic and/or tongue in cheek, so don’t take them too seriously in that sense. As a teenager I loved their sense of humor. I saw them open for another band when I was in high school, and it was before this song came out and they got popular, so most of the crowd didn’t know them. Before this song, they said “We’d like to dedicate this one to all of you.” And we thought it would be a sweet song. Everyone laughed so hard when we realized what they were actually saying. I loved them after that show and became a fan, and their albums were really good! I hope you check out more of them and now you’ll know that they have a strange sense of humor. I’m sure everyone will tell you to check out “Cat’s in the Cradle”, and you should because it’s great. But their song “So Damn Cool” has one of the best guitar riffs in all of metaldom-J will LOVE it! Ironic that Amber was wearing a shirt about kind people during this recording though. 😂😂😂

The majority of songs in the world seem to be love songs and I've always been a fan of the 'anti-love' song (Don't Tell Me You Love Me, anyone?). Why? Because there's a tongue and cheek thing to them. Think about this song live and and the singer holding the mic to the audience at the end of the chorus.
