The piano and musical breakdown from School was used in a commercial for our annual local boat show at the convention centre. It was used for several years in the early 80s. Was the first time I'd heard the song, and to this day when I hear it, something inside always says to me "It's the boat show song!"

Supertramp is one of my ALL-TIME favourite bands for their incredibly diverse sound. This song in particular is one of my favourites to sing along with. I got to see the lead singer, Roger Hodgson, in concert, and the music is simply AWESOME! Breakfast in America and, if you want a LONG song, Fool's Overture are equally strong!

Whenever anyone does Supertramp, I always recommend a more obscure song "Lord Is It Mine?" It really is beautiful...just Roger and the piano. Saw their last tour. I can't remember if it was 82 or 83. Scrounged up the money, finally was able to buy on the day of the concert, somehow me and my friend got 8th row. This was before they had different prices for different seats. $32. Awesome concert.

This was their breakthrough US hit in the 70s. Interesting backstory on this band of musical geniuses. A wealthy patron fronted their bills for a good while as they honed their sound and perfected their art. They were on the verge of being cut off and destitute when things finally clicked for them.

"Bloody Well Right" was the 2nd single from Supertramp's 3rd album, "Crime Of The Century (released 13 Sept 1974). Initially the B-side to the 1st single, "Dreamer', "Bloody Well Right" became Supertramp's breakthrough hit, reaching number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. Other popular song from "Crime Of The Century are "Dreamer", "School" and "Hide In Your Shell."

This is one of those bands That could play a Little bit of everything like ELO. Every time I hear certain songs by Supertramp reminds me of an old buddy of mine from back in the late 70s one of my best friends lived across the street from me for years and died of leukemia. That wonderful saxophone player is John Helliwell. Although the band is led by Roger Hodgson & Rick Davies (including most if not all of the writing), John was the "Bandleader" on stage during live concerts. He did all the chatter including some lengthy song introductions during the shows. In addition to sax he played an entire music box of percussion instruments such as cowbell, tambourine, triangle, assorted bells & whistles and backing vocals. A very busy man!
@Jessica_Roth

All the times I've listened to this song before, I've been focused on the obvious parts; Rick Davies's work on the piano and his vocals, Roger Hodgson on the guitar, John Helliwell on the sax. But, because Jay really loves the bass and because i've been writing comments here and was completely embarrassed when I could never recall Dougie Thomson's name (on multiple occasions!), I paid especial attention to him this time through and dang! Is that one FAT and throbbing bass line. Nice. So thank you guys for not only giving me the enjoyment of watching your reactions, but for making me listen more closely and thus enjoy the song even more. (And belated apologies to Dougie for having overlooked him, previously.)

Supertramp and their outros are out of this world! They always give you more bang for your buck. Where most bands will say "that's a great song. That's enough", Supertramp, instead takes it to yet another level. After they've marveled you with great singing, deep lyrics and beautifully arranged music, and the listener is fully satisfied, Supertramp says "But wait, there's more!".

Supertramp was a band I'd heard of but never listened to as a kid or teen - not sure why I never checked them out - but, as an adult, I'm discovering them along with you and loving it as well. It's fun to watch y'all react to music that I already love but it's also great to discover new bands and music with you. I'm kind of sad I missed out on Supertramp back in the day (though I'm not sure I would have appreciated them as much back then, tbh) but really stoked to be finding them now. So good! And, as someone who dabbles in music as a hobby, bands like Supertramp are so inspiring. Anyway, great reaction, y'all, as always!

Jay- Do you recall "Goodbye Stranger" by Supertramp? It's the one where Roger Hodgson sings in falsetto,🎵Goodbye Mary, Goodbye Jane🎵 and it has that kick-a__ guitar solo outro at the end. It has some cool transitions too. I can't over-emphasize the influence Supertramp has had on my younger years. Looking back, they were one of the most underrated bands ever. But thanks to KZbin reactors like you and Amber, they are garnering the appreciation they deserve. I love their pop songs the most. Some you've yet to hear: *Breakfast In America* *Oh Darlin'* *Dreamer* And *It's Raining Again* (just like now in the Chicago area ☔️🌧)("It's Raining Again was released in 1982 and brought their sound into the next decade)

At the time - 74-75 - in the UK, "bloody" was still widely considered a shocking swear word, for some reason, and the song had little or no airplay. But it was a hit in the US, even as a B side, because there wasn't such a problem with the word. Anyway, as others have said, you should really listen to this as a companion piece and a segue from the first track on the album, School

So glad that you guys got to Bloody Well Right (I've been waiting for months for you to do this). You're next Supertramp song needs to be School from the Crime of the Century album, then Rudy, Dreamer, and Hide in Your Shell. There's much more than this, but you'll be pleased with these choices. FYI, you've used their greatest hits album cover a couple of times. This cover incorporates elements from several of their albums, most notably the prison bars from Crime of the Century and the hand holding the plate and glass from Breakfast in America. You may want to see them live sometime, so check out any of their performances from Paris Live in 1979...they are incredible.

Glad yer gettin' around to all these great songs! BWR features Rick Davies singing the lead vocal, and playing the "Wurly," a Wurlitzer electric piano. He also sings on Goodbye Stranger, and Oh Darling, another radio hit from Breakfast in America, while most of the other Supertramp hit songs have Roger Hodgson singing in his strong, clear, often amazingly high voice. Supertramps still got a bunch of great music to experience: "Child Of Vision" "Dreamer" "It's Raining Again" "Oh Darling" (Rick Davies sings this one too) "Breakfast In America" (more)

This was a great album. I was in high school then. I think "School" was my favorite song which was earlier in the 70's.

The Supertramp live album is just amazing to listen to as they recreate many of their songs perfectly but with the extra energy of a live performance and everything that Amber says she would go to the concert for.

Asylum from the Crime Of The Century album is probably my favorite Supertramp song, though admittedly they've got quite an impressive catalog of great songs

Roger Hodgson is among the top handful of songwriters alive today. His arrangements that support his amazing stories (words of the songs) are first-class. Add to that, he is one of THE MOST GIFTED PIANO PLAYERS ALIVE TODAY!!! Simply perfection!!! (Check Roger out in some of his live concerts available on KZbin - circa 2000).

I love the sax solo in the beginning after the piano, then the rock in the middle and jazzy sax to the end. Perfection.

English band, "Bloody" is an English expletive that most closely corresponds to "f*cking." So they're saying "You're f*cking right." Also, the sax player John Helliwell, served as the band's MOC for the concerts. During this song, he used a megaphone 📣 chime in on the chorus, which had "Right" on one side, & "Quite Right" on the other.

Definitely do "School" next. It's the partner piece to this song (on the album School fades into Bloody Well Right in an interesting and startling way). Both are about school, but in very different ways.

Yup....Dreamer. I had it on 45 when I was a kid. I played the heck out of it , to the great annoyance of my mom. "TURN THAT MUSIC DOWN!" dont make me take that record player away for a week , young man.

I would definitely recommend watching Bloody Well Right Live in Paris either in your spare time or react to it if possible. It's on KZbin. The live version is longer at the end. These guys are an excellent stage band. I've seen them in concert three times and have three concert DVDs and one Blu Ray. The Live in Paris Blu Ray is my favorite right now. Supertramp is my among my favorite bands with Pink Floyd and Yes. I never get tired of listening to any of their music. It's been 48 years so far since the first time I listened to Supertramp.

This entire album is just freaking awesome. There are so many songs that are epic that people forget to mention. "Hide in your Shell" (the music in this one tugs at my heartstrings), "Rudy", "If Everyone Was Listening", "School" and even "Dreamer". You could react to any or all of those songs and not go wrong!!

When you see most groups live they sound not so much like on a recording. They seemed nearly the same so crisp clear and together live. 8 th row center at a 18000 seat arena probably had a bit to do with it.
