Pantera has one of the wildest stories in metal. They were an obscure hair metal band in the late 80s and for some reason just knew to reinvent themselves as this band. One of the founders of a new metal sound, groove metal. I can't think of any other band who was able to do this.
@rycor9117 Жыл бұрын
I agree although the hair metal stuff was very good as well. They saw the end coming and switched at the right time. You can here EVH through almost every solo he does - it is great

The seeds were there. You can hear it in Projects in The Jungle and Power Metal. They just needed Phil and also not kid themselves pretending to be glam when they were clearly not.

RIP Dime (guitars) and Vinnie (drums). And yes, as teens in the early 90s, our parents did often wonder what it was we listened to. Pantera started off as a glam metal band like Motley Crue, Poison, etc. When Phil (vocals) was hired, that's when the sound changed. I'll be seeing the current Pantera lineup play this Friday with Metallica at AT&T Stadium. Metallica performs a two night set on this tour and this weekend is in Arlington, TX. Which also happens to coincide with Dime's birthday, and to play in his home town.

Oh YESSSS!! 🥰🥰🥰 Pantera makes me think of my dad (RIP). 💙💙💙 Whenever he finished his chemo treatments, I'd blast Pantera on our one hour drive home and he would come ALIVE in that back seat, no matter how weak he was from the chemo. He would JAM OUT, and when we would get home, he would say "Thanks Nae" with the biggest smile. Then he would go inside and have the best nap ever. 😂 I grew up listening to Pantera, and I also would hear my dad play their music on guitar (among many other bands). Thanks for reminding me of my dad and all the memories shared with him. 💗

Glad to see you all venturing further into some metal. Other bands you could queue up to keep the journey going would be Sepultura (maybe the song Territory), or System of a Down (songs Toxicity or Question), or Tool (songs like Aenima, Vicarious, or Lateralus) though arguably they aren't metal, or if you want modern metal that's hard hitting but not overly aggressive something like Spiritbox (song Blessed Be) or Polaris (song The Remedy). Also, I was a big 90s alternative kid, so some other songs you could check out from that era would be "Superman's Dead" by Our Lady Peace, "Better Days" by Citizen King, and "Shimmer" by Fuel. Jumping into the crowd is called "stage diving." If the other fans pass you around it's called "crowd surfing." Singer is Phil Anselmo. The band is from Texas. They started out a typical metal band playing power metal and I think they wore makeup for a short time like glam metal bands, (hair bands). They eventually found their sound and invented "groove metal."

This was the tune that got me into Pantera. Went on to get Cowboys From Hell, Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven albums the following day. I had no face left afterwards as it was pulverised by their music

A week ago my lady friend and I took her 85 year old mother to a show in the SF Bay Area were some friends who are all recording artists were playing a fun gig together. We got her a Pantera T shirt for the show. The guy’s thought it was funny as hell ( not there music style) so after the show they took a group photo with her She absolutely adored it and hugged them all Thanks guys

I've seen it in rock articles several times but the term and birth of "Heavy Metal" comes from two bands back in the late 60's. The band Iron Butterfly with their song "Ina Goda Davida" coming in at a hair over 17 minutes long has everything a rock song needs! The second comes from Steppin' Wolf with the song "Born To Be Wild". In the song there is a line that goes... "I like smokin' Lightening Heavy Metal thunder"... and from the combination of these two bands a newer darker, harder rock n roll emerged into the world. **(edit) Highly recommend checking out both if you haven't. Peace, Love, and Rock 'N' Roll

Went to many Pantera shows back in the day... Never a bad show... RIP Dime and Vin... I don't think I could ever get over losing those two brothers... The world got robbed of a lot of good music..

I met drummer Vinny Paul at the rainbow in LA 2 months before he died. Nicest guy. HE offered to take a pic with me. Shook his Hand and told him I loved his work.

A few decades later and I still think this is one of their best songs ever! I only really liked the songs where Phil actually sang...not a fan of the fast screaming vocals in a lot of their songs...but the ones like this...showcase how great Phil's voice was.
