Korn is considered Nu-Metal, they were the pioneers of it. Slap funk bass lines. Turntable inspired guitars. They took metal to new places. Also, lyrically they were rawer than a lot of metal contemporaries. I've been working through a lot of childhood trauma and Korn helps because Johnathan's been through it too.

Especially a song like Daddy. That is almost impossible to listen to for me, it's less of a song and more of a tattoo on his heart. The album follow the leader helped me process a LOT of trauma growing up, most of the times I would listen to it while I walked and i'd just space out. I like how he is like "you can't sit still!" but if you have ever had a screwed up childhood and really listen to the lyrics... man it just expresses your emotions like steam coming out of a boiling kettle, you don't need to do anything but just listen.

Fun fact: A young Eminem is in the music video for this song (he's one of the extras), and he had tried to pass a demo tape to one of the members (I believe Jonathon Davis) who was too out of it on drugs at the time to care. Apparently it's been a minor point of regret on their part.

Korn goes deep with the lyrics. Kinda like Rage Against the Machine, but more personal than political. You really should pull the lyrics up. But they do kick ass. Smash some turntable skills together with brutal, angry metal; and stir in some 80's and 90's rap presentation, and you end up with some amazing sounds completely unlike anything the world ever produced. But the best 2 Korn songs a down south nigga like me ever heard coming up in them late 90s/early 2000s was....No One's There and Trash. Korn didn't do masks they mostly looked like a more goth/part hip-hop Cali type. Main singer had a lot of rap influence. They basically started the nu metal/Linkin Park phase where metal all were rapping and had Djs like bands Limp Bizkit and Incubus. U gotta check the Queen of the Damned soundtrack, perfect time capsule of metal from that era

If you ever wanted to trying something a little harder, but still considered "groove metal", I really recommend Lamb Of God, specifically the Ashes of the Wake album. It checks the 1. Anti-government/war protest album, 2. It goes HARD at every turn. FILLED with guitar solos lol, 3. It's literally Groove Metal by genre. (The title song is almost entirely instrumental. The band was actually afraid of this song... It's mostly because of the weird "disco" drum beat, which was so different from the rest of their catalogue (much heavier metal). Anyways, they were genuinely afraid that this song could be death of them because they thought their hardcore fans would hate it and consider it too poppy for their standards. "Got the life" ended up becoming one of their biggest hits.

Also, you could check out the Queen of the Damned soundtrack. Korn's frontman Jonathan Davis wrote (and, I believe, voiced) all of the songs that Lestat (the vampire main character) performs in the movie. Edit: Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, you'd have to watch the movie to hear Davis's renditions, because a cool thing they did for the soundtrack was to get other famous singers (David Draiman of Disturbed, Marilyn Manson, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park) to cover the songs for the released soundtrack CD.
