Ironically I met you boys on a ledge here in NSW when I hit the stones for the first time with a new rod and accidentally cast over one of your lines. Absolute madlads for giving me a pass and a few pointers. Happened ages ago but I'm 97% sure it was you lads. Videos like this are massively helpful to the uninitiated and are my go to for friends who want to start rock fishing while I'm away for work. Mad props kings, keep it up.

You can't confuse us, we're the bunch of blokes that makes a lot of animal noises when we hook up 😁 Glad we can help, this sport is too good to keep to ourselves. Hope we bump into each other again 👍🏾

Well put and great video! Speaking of big kings, in 1999, my mate got a 31 kg hoodlum from the Tubes on a whole live squid in June - man that was a fish!!! But, he put in a lot of hours for zero results and with every trip, especially the blanks, he learned a bit more and edged that little bit closer to achieving his goal - a big 20 + kg king! Yours will happen one day too and if it reefs you like his did back right off, free spool and confuse it. Sometimes luck, skill and nerves of steel can win the trophy fish over.

Wow, 31kg is NZ size. I'm crying about the one I lost off the breakwall. Time and patience is key. But to land a 31kg kingie off the stones is next level skill.

Hi team, For gear, would surf rods and reel be the same as rock fishing? Any thoughts on the Penn Prevail 2 9’6? Looking for a versatile setup for both rocks and beach.
@TeamKingiesFishingCrew
@TeamKingiesFishingCrew 2 жыл бұрын
You can, but surf rods & reels tend to be heavy, so if you're ok to cast with heavier gear all day, should be no problems. One of the boys uses the Prevail 2 rods for rock fishing no problems.

The urge to catch more and bigger push some people in trouble ending in tragedy like Hill 60… when you just arrived and the spot is all wet that indicates a no-no place for casting. A few wave counts and a huge one can take you out, always learn to leave one eye on the sea, remember life can not be replaced. Everyone one should safely go home to their family, enjoy another fight. Always carry a child shoulder float you can pump air when you fall it helps on the water. I bring along carpenters rope a baseball tied sa dulo you can throw when someone falls. Extra emergency big starlites at night for rescue to find you. Always put on your metal spikes to avoid slip as I nearly went in after getting pulled from a big bite. Do not over tighten the drag let it run and strike after. Watch your step when the fight is on many accidents happen. And for those who just watch assist by alarming rock fishos it helps. Most waves hit the rock breaks that’s fine others kept filing up and that’s dangerous and more on bending sideways rather coming straight at you where it can be seen easily while some go deep build pressure and climbs suddenly. Most got signs before it hits on top. Just learn to read like the ancients do. Great observants, happy fishing!

hey man i noticed u said that the sedona is a good reel to start with but checking the specs it says that the 5000 only holds 200m of pe3 braid. do you reckon 200m is enough for rock fishing? cheers man
@TeamKingiesFishingCrew
@TeamKingiesFishingCrew 9 ай бұрын
PE3 would be to heavy for 5000 size reel. Best would be PE2 or 2.5, so you could get over 250m

@@TeamKingiesFishingCrew thanks for the quick response bro appreciate it. Ive got one more question for u. would an atomic arrowz offshore 7ft 2pce 14-30lb with a bg5000 and 30lb braid be good for beginner rock fishing and canals and shit or would it be too heavy? would i be better off with maybe a raider 7ft 6-10kg with a 5000 sedona and 20lb? sorry for wording this comment so shitty haha
@TeamKingiesFishingCrew
@TeamKingiesFishingCrew 9 ай бұрын
@@ジョンジョン-d4d the BG has more grunt & drag than the Sedona, but BG is more expensive. For rods, we would recommend nothing shorter than 9ft. You need the length to land the fish.

Our recommendation for rock fishing would be: Reel: Shimano Saragosa 8000 Rod: over 9 foot rod (Oceans Legacy Specialist) Line: PE 4 or between 40lb-60lb Leader: 60-80lb

Pick up your rubbish and other people’s rubbish if you see it and dispose of it properly! Leave the location cleaner than when you got there! - that’s probably the first and best advice I can give to beginners. I see so much rubbish left behind whenever I get to fishing locations. It’s really disappointing to see. Killing it with the great content brother! Ost oost!

How about do a run down on nicknames for fish we fish in Australia. When I first started out hearing names like rat kingies, bonnies, sambos, etc. kinda confused me but then after some research, i found out they were under sized king fish, Bonito, Australian Salmon etc

Some fish are called different names in different states. It gets confusing. For example in NSW we call Australian salmon as sambos, but in WA this is the name for samson fish.
