Rechenka is an old Russian Folksong. This is an old ritual song about an orphan bride. The girl has no parents. The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. She goes to the river and asks for the blessing of marriage. She says that there are many people at home, but there is no father and mother. You hear Diana singing in a whisper. These are the words of the deceased mother of the bride. Then the girl is crying. In Russia, at weddings they sang sad songs to scare away evil and the marriage of a young couple was to be happy. Such songs were called ·weeping.· The figures behind Diana are spirits of water and forest. she is an orphan being given away in marriage to the unloved. She is asking for blessings from her deceased mother for a marriage that will not be a happy one. The children in the yard are playing and laughing, but wondering why the girl is so sad; they are not celebrating. In the boat she is going to her wedding with resignation towards a sad life. Not true. The line where Diana whispers is translated as "Why are you sitting there [then for the whisper, she says .. ] and not smiling?" She's talking about her baby (some say it's her brother, but that is not in the song), not her mother. Only thing in the song about her mother is she says she has no parents. She doesn't mention her mother at all. Her baby is sitting there and not smiling. Why? Doesn't say.

Let me explain what happens when all 4 judges slap their buttons. Diana sings a Russian folk song, and folklore is a very conservative genre, because folklore is much about old traditions which need to be cherished. But Diana uses yodeling elements in her vocals, which are NOT a part of the Russian tradition. The classic yodel is usual in Southern Germany or Switzerland. Most likely, at first, the judges are simply shocked. Diana breaks the canonical tradition, and no one can pass by without noticing that. But Diana uses the yodel extremely accurately, in a dosed manner (and in a modified, not classic form) - to convey the drama of the situation in the song (I feel that in this place the heroine is crying, perhaps this can be called 'an internal cry'). This is so appropriate and convincing that the judges are unanimous.

I forgot to add... In the song she is representing the sounds of wind, the trees swaying, the movement and what the waves of the river sound like, the sound of a birds or maybe owl, wolves. I liked how you described it as chanting. All part of the mystical woodland creature feeling with mother Earth that draws you in. I have often heard Diana described as the personification of Mother Earth. This becomes even more true in her own original song "Into The Skies", which is very beautiful. The chanting as you said... Here she is really using her yodeling skills. Yodeling involves repeated and rapid changes of pitch between the low-pitch chest register (or "chest voice") and the high-pitch head register or falsetto. It has been part of traditional singing in many countries. Diana masters both the high notes as well as the very low, also shown when she does that slide from high to low. You can easily see how deep in the zone she gets and emotionally involved in her performance. For Diana it’s not just about singing, it’s also about the total performance. There’s one song that actually made her cry at the end. Besides songs in her native Russian, she does them in French, Spanish, Arabic, and English. She like Dimash and Hua Chenyu can not be put in a box or compared to anyone else. They are all just incredibly unique. If you have not checked out Hua Chenyu... you so need to. He is another brilliant artist from China. One minute he sings ballads, one minute he is rocking out, the next minute he is rapping, the next minute it is a theatrical performance that has you crying your eyes out. Chenyu, Nunchucks is a good start because he changes several times in one song.
