QOTD: 100% Togetic -> Togekiss. Always kind of liked Togetic, but it was SO bad... then Gen 4 came along and BOOM, 545 stat total and a 60% flinch rate STAB move. Crazy. Fairy typing in Gen 6 was just the icing on the cake for the weird-but-cool angel-airplane-bird-egg Pokemon that I enjoy so much.

MY FRIEND thank you very much for the consistent support :) the togekiss line is another one that's up there for me. Togetic definitely has some value to me as well. I'll tell you a story. So when I was a kid (during when Fire Red/Leaf Green was out), my friend made a bet that if I could beat his Lv 100 Whiscash (hacked with 999 in every single stat), I could have whatever Pokemon I wanted from his PC. He had things like Lv100 Lugia, Ho-Oh, Deoxys, etc etc. I of course didn't know how to get those mons so I was like yes of course. We did double battle and I brought Togetic and Articuno. Went for Follow Me with Togetic to protect Articuno + Mind Reader with Articuno and then Sheer Cold on the following turn. He didn't know what to say and I took all his mons LOL

I'm slightly late to the video but same. I used to have an action replay but many times id just use it to change my starter to things i thought interesting. Togetic was always one I liked but not as powerful as I liked. Togekiss has been my fave mon since Gen 4, so versatile but kinda wish Hustle was Natural cure or something else. Its Serene Grace ftw though Church of Togekiss open 7 days a week.

I was so hyped when I found out you could evolve Electabuzz in D&P, as I always loved the design of Electabuzz in Gen 1 and Elekid in Gen 2 was a cool kind of Easter egg for me. An incredible design, one of the best Gen 8 Pokémon. And an absolute offensive powerhouse with a Guts powering up an absolutely devastating facade, STAB knock off, close combat to give it perfect coverage with those three moves, bulk up, an incredible utility move pool with switcheroo, parting shot, and fun alternate abilities in Reckless and Defiant.

Thanks! Also yea so i think it depends on the specific pokemon/set. Like if a final evolution of a Pokemon does better, you'd only use a previous stage if it has some sort of advantage or niche over it (for example I've brought Zweilous, Paliptoad, Nidorino, Rufflet, Duskull, etc). But surprise factor by using underrated Pokemon is extremely important in the game especially since ladder matches are just best of 1, so when you have more information than your opponent (who most of the time will appear with standard stuff you've already seen before) you're always at a competitive advantage.

QOTD: There are so many Pokémon that I've grown to love after they've gotten evolutions in later generations. As I'm not good at picking one singular favorite, I'll give a few answers here. Crobat: My first Pokémon game was Ruby. I have limited exposure to Gen 1 games, and I have absolutely zero experience with Gen 2 games. But Crobat took one of the most "annoying" Pokémon encounters and turned it into a powerhouse. I love the design too-it's simple yet elegant. This is also one of the few on this list where the jump from the previous evolution (Golbat) to this one (Crobat) marks a massive change in opinion for me. Though Zubat is overly prevalent in caves and enemy teams, I don't like Golbat's design. Crobat, however, still maintains itself as one of my favorite poison types (and my third favorite bat Pokémon after Noivern and Gliscor). Crobat is awesome, and I'm glad that Gen 2 introduced it. Hitmontop: Fighting is a type that I struggle to find favor with. Due to most of the designs being bulky, muscular humanoids (like the Machop line, the Timburr line, Sawk/Throh, te cetera), I just have a lot of apathy for the designs of this type overall. Though Gen 1 brought Mankey/Primeape, it was simply… okay for me; it also took me decades to really get a grasp of what Poliwrath was supposed to be doing. So my first real positive experiences with fighting types were Breloom, Blaziken, Heracross, and Hitmontop-with Hitmontop actually coming onto my radar due to Pokémon Colosseum (I still can't get over how that trainer's name was freaking SKRUB). Hitmontop is also, without a doubt, the second fighting type that I loved enough to keep on my team (the first being Blaziken, after I got Emerald and decided to use all three starters by trading them from Ruby). Hitmontop is incredible, and I'm so glad it exists. Scizor: Do you remember that episode in the anime where there was this mysterious masked Pokémon who'd swoop down, battle someone, scribble on their face with a marker after winning, and then fly away? And then it was later revealed that they could fly by using the updrafts between the tall buildings, leading to an epic aerial battle between it and Ash's Sceptile? That was one of my first exposures to Scizor, and it was SO COOL. I'm already a huge fan of Scyther, and Scizor is incredible. Scizor was also among my first competitive team back in Gen 5, mostly because I just loved its design and its utility. I'm always flabbergasted to see how powerful it is despite not being given very many new tools after Technician. The only thing I don't like about Scizor is its mega; I don't like the design, and it doesn't really change much about how it battles (making it mechanically boring to me at the same time). But Scizor itself is incredible and is cemented as one of my all time favorite bog type Pokémon. Gliscor: I adore Gligar, even when I had no idea how to use it back in Colosseum. Gliscor takes everything I love about Gligar and dials it up to incredible heights-including its strengths. Gliscor is legitimately one of my top five favorite Pokémon of all time, and it (along with Scizor) was on my first ever competitive team in Gen 5. And despite not being a bug type, it's one of my favorite bug Pokémon in the franchise (it's in the bug egg group, so I think it counts). The anime only allowed me to love it more, what with Ash's Gliscor being both incredibly strong and adorably cuddly-so full of personality and charm. I'm always glad to have one on my team, and I miss it in SwSh so much. And here are some honorable mentions that I don't have as much to say about: Mismagius: Unlike with Hitmontop, my experience with Misdreavus was kind of painful in Colosseum. In comes Mismagius, and now I have a new entry in my top three favorite Ghost types in the franchise. I love its silly sheet-ghost design and mage aesthetic. It's so fun, and I love its presence. One of these days, I will use it in-game. Weavile: This is one of the rare instances of me absolutely adoring an evolution while still not overcoming my love for the original. Sneasel is just too perfect. That said, Weavile is also incredible, and I'm so glad that it continues to be prominent in competitive spaces. Weavile is one of the few ice types that made it, and I support it all the way. Dusknoir: Sure, Dusknoir isn't as impactful competitively as Eviolite was for this evolutionary line, but I adore Dusknoir. And I say this with minimul emotional connection to the PMD Explorers game. Dusknoir looks cool, has interesting lore, and is just overall menacing. I with it was better competitively.

Now, I also have some incredibly fond memories involving Scizor, and it'd be a bit much to add in the main post. So I put it here instead! In Pokémon Shield's Galarian Star Tournament, I enjoy going with the rules and only bringing 3 Pokémon so it's fairer. My Scizor managed to steal the show so many times. In one battle against Raihan and Leon, Raihan's Flygon had just gotten Bullet Punched to smithereens but KO'ed Avery's Slowking a turn beforehand; thankfully, that Slowking managed to get out a Max Hailstorm to also defeat Leon's Aegislash. So now it's my Scizor alone against both Leon's Charizard and Raihan's Duraludon. It was Raihan's turn to dynamax; thank GOODNESS that was the case, because that meant I didn't need to deal with Gigantimax Charizard. Bullet Punch on Charizard. Scizor dodged the Fire Blast, but then got smacked out of the air by Gigantimax Duraludon's Max Knuckle. It hurt. I knew that one fire attack would spell trouble, but I currently have a team of all steel types. I can't switch! So I had Scizor use Bullet Punch on Charizard again. Charizard is at like 1/3 HP left or something, thanks to the hailstorm. Charizard's Fire Blast completely whiffs. Duraludon gets in another Max Knuckle, and Scizor's at like 1/3 HP left. See, now I'm sweating. How am I supposed to get through this, huh? But I did it anyway. Another Bullet Punch against Charizard. Charizard fainted. Duraludon then changed tactics: Max Rockfall instead. Goodbye hail, hello Sandstorm, goodbye residual weather damage. Scizor is at 55 HP, and one good Stone Edge would defeat her. I had to be faster than Duraludon to survive, so I had Scizor use Roost. Scizor was faster and was able to heal. At this point, I needed to make sure I could defeat this Duraludon, so I used Swords Dance twice, Roost again, and then Bug Bite took the 80% HP that it had left after all of that hail. If I didn't already love Scizor as a Pokémon, I definitely would have after that.

I'd drop to 339 attack to hit the 285 speed. That allows you to Rock Tomb Dragonite as it dragon dances, then pick up the guaranteed KO with Ice punch, since you're still 1 point faster guaranteed (max speed Dragonite with a boosting nature is 284 speed).

For contrast, I think the most successful was probably Mamoswine but that was pretty easy given that Mamoswine is a bit featureless and there was clear room to flesh out the concept

QOTD: Murkrow-->Honchkrow Like so many Gen 2 pokemon, Murkrow needed an evolution. The design for Honchkrow is excellent and Moxie is always a good ability with that attack stat. Too bad it loses speed

togekiss is it for me, before i knew anything about EV/IV mij first togekiss was amazing in game with strong attacks and really helped me vs cynthia. extreme speed, aura sphere flametrower and i think air slash was a great covarage and it really did well ingame. to bad it got to be this gimmicky and annoyin later on. one other note @emvee what would you feel like if pokemon scarletviolet take over freeze mechanic of legend arceus?
