Nice job👍😎 I recently found some petrified wood that was in some sort of very old cobblestone structure. There is some type of mortar or something similar, surrounding some of the pieces, but along with the petrified wood there are crystals growing out of the same matrix! So would you try to shape the mortar matrix and keep them together or attempt to separate the wood and the crystals from the matrix? Nice job on the tumbling and the video 👍😎 I subbed ✨

Shannon, I very much appreciate your videos and all the work you've put into learning how to tumble rocks. I have only been tumbling rocks for about 3 months now, but I have seven 3 lb barrels running. I consult your videos regularly and I really appreciate the service you are doing for rock tumbling newbies out here like myself. Because of you my results have been outstanding. I have been following your advice to a tee. Thanks, Dana Harris

Hi Shannon, great job on the tumble. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to dig about 20 pounds of Rainbow petrified wood in Holbrook Az. I just finished 9 weeks of tumbling and it turned out amazing. I followed a schedule very similar to yours.

Wow! That's a really great find - and tumbling stones you collected yourself is extra satisfying! 👍👍

Love your Petrified Wood. It's one of my favorites too. The colorful Arizona variety. Have you ever worked any Yellowstone River Petrified Wood? It's one of the most "wood" looking, just like driftwood.
@ReikiGemWellness4 жыл бұрын
Not yet, but now that I know how lovely petrified wood is I am going to look for different varieties. I'll add Yellowstone River to my list 💖😃

The patience you must have to wait that long for the finished product! I’m about to invest in my first tumbler. Any recommendations? I have 6 five gallon buckets full of P wood waiting on me, not including roughly 500 lbs of larger logs that are currently decorating my mothers back patio! I want to get lapidary equipment and start cutting and polishing :) I enjoyed watching the pieces transform through the stages and seeing the different grains and colors come out 👍

Thank you for this tutorial, I have some petrified wood at home but all different sizes, do you recommend splitting the really large ones. Also do you use tumbling media on all stages of tumbling?
@martinosborn31712 жыл бұрын
Invest in an industrial vibratory tumbler and tumble in a fraction of the time. I would recommend the Thumler’s UV-18 industrial version (bowl has blue stripe)

My dad gave me a huge piece of petrified wood and was thinking of making it into a necklace but i want the center stone to be heart shaped, do i have to get a diamond blade for that?
@jackstanford76352 жыл бұрын
You might stop the drying out by pre soaking the petrified wood. It will soak up a lot sometimes.

Wow, it turned out beautiful! So, I've only been tumbling for a few months (only completed 2 batches) and I had the missing water thing happen to me. I'd remembered you mentioning on a video not to long ago. After thinking long and hard about it the only real answer is...we forgot to add water. There's just no way that the water evaporated without a trace...there would be some sort of evidence of it. Keep up the good work!

I agree, it really has to be the reason. I can't think of any other. Oops! 😆😆

Hey Shannon I’m curious to know have you ever seen blue petrified wood it’s not very dark in color it is almost like a whitish blue if that makes sense apparently it’s not that common in the United States I’d like to get your knowledge on this if possible
@ReikiGemWellness4 жыл бұрын
I have not personally seen blue, but the colors come from the minerals in the Earth that it absorbs. Mostly here in the US I see red, orange, brown and grey 👍

Are the little white rocks used as filler? What are those?
@ReikiGemWellness4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the ceramic media are used as a cushion and filler as the main stones get smaller and smaller during the tumbling process. 👍

So it seems like the biggest issue I can address myself having is not leaving my stones in coarse grit long enough... I guess I'm just too in love with the weirder shapes. But I realise now that I keep leaving them too rough before I put them in medium I guess. I'm always worried about losing too much mass, I'm a newbie haha

I've had a piece of petrified wood as big as my fist for 35 years . I've always been under the influence it was a negative thing . What are the positives or negatives of possessing this ?

I'm intrigued by the "evaporated water" problem. I have three guesses. 1) You have some kind of chemical reaction happening that is generating heat and the water is evaporating from that. But that would involve at least a leak of water vapor. 2) You actually do have a very slow leak that is hard to detect as the leaked water evaporates quickly and leaves no puddle. 3)Water is being absorbed by something. Highly unlikely I think.

why use ceramic media on stage i?
@ReikiGemWellness Жыл бұрын
This is an older video so I can't quite recall, but one reason is if you don't have enough rough to fill the barrel you fill up that extra space with ceramic media.

Petrified wood is a semi precious gem. Mineral replacing the organic material over 10'sk yrs. It's not actually wood anymore
