I'm shocked by how long it takes to tumble crystals! Never would have imagined it would be such a process. Also I haven't a clue what you mean by surface imperfections - they looked so perfect after the first week to me! hahhaa

Yes, so if you see if you notice that the cost of non-commercially tumbled stones if higher - this is why. It takes quite a long time and effort to complete a batch of stones. Thanks so much for watching and saying Hi!

Thanks for this video. It came along just in time for the 2 lb of clear quartz rough I've been wanting to tumble. Keep the timely videos coming!

This should definitely apply to Clear Quartz as well 👍 And rose quartz, amethyst, fire quartz and citrine. I hope your quartz tumbling goes well!

Great information! I was definitely curious about the toughness of quartz, seeing how my rose quartz is coming along, I was definitely wondering about it, based on the chipping and it just looks a little bit more fragile than I expected for such a hard rock. Definitely will make sure we keep the ceramic media topped up through the rest of our finer stages! (Edit: can i say definitely one more time?)

Definitely is definitely one of my favorite words 😆 Especially in Fine, Extra-Fine and Polish, you want enough cushion so the stones can shift a little and grind the grit against the surfaces, but not enough space to actually hit each other. I've been told the barrel should be at least 3/4 full. Your Rose Quartz is lookin' good! 👍👍

I have a few huge quartz rocks I got from a landscaper that are way too big to tumble, how do I break it into smaller pieces. I tried a hammer and it didn’t break.

What do you mean by tumbling the stone?
@ReikiGemWellness
@ReikiGemWellness 4 жыл бұрын
It definitely shows what this is in the video. Stones are tumbled in a rotary rock tumbler to smooth them out and eventually polish them up to a nice shine 👍👍

Interested to know at what stage you begin adding ceramic media, and how much. It looks as if there is little if any in the first coarse grinds. Thanks.

I start adding it in the second week. It serves two purposes, for cushioning and for filling the empty space left after the rocks start to wear down. It's not so much needed in stage one because you can fill up the barrel and the stones can really wear down those rough edges against each other.

That’s so helpful. I’m about to start my first lot of quartz and look forward to the result. Many thanks. Be well and safe!

I have been wondering about buying a rocktumbler, as it's not uncommon to find quartz where I live. What would you say is the minimum size for raw quarts for it to be worth tumbling? (I usually find anything from the size of the first joint of my thumb, to bigger than my fist)
@ReikiGemWellness
@ReikiGemWellness 2 жыл бұрын
Tumbling rough is approximately the size of a quarter or larger. Consider that the stones will lose a bit of mass as they are tumbled. "Found stones" are the most satisfying to tumble 👍

@@ReikiGemWellness thank you so much for your quick reply! 😃 if I can go down to the size of a quarter, I have definitely got enough quartz to warrant investing in a tumbler 😃 I live in quite a quartz rich area and we are currently redoing our entire garden. We've stumbled upon at least a kilo of quartz by now😅 most white, but some pink amd a few yellow, and even a few that look to be a little smokey😊
