I just ordered the Transalp here in Tokyo, you helped me figure it was the best for where I am and how I ride. Now I need to look for my wife’s bike😁 P.s. I’m no triumph fan, but I love that a euro maker is finally making bikes in the average mans price range while keeping euro quality. If nothing else, making the Japanese brands step up to the plate.

Seems like a nice option, especially for those of us who ride them lots in the real world. Plenty of power, looks good, not too expensive, and that triple sound. Using the Daytona moniker is similar to what Triumph did with the faux twin-spar covers on the sides of the frame - both pretend to be something the bike is not. As someone mentioned in another review, using Sprint would have been a good choice. It's always been sport-bike light (sport tourer). Your characterization of the dash is spot on. I don't find it unbearable, but your reference to '70s cars (for me it's the AMC range) hit the nail on the head. Just look at that Suzuki - aside from the headlights, it's a very good looking bike, showing off its subframe. Thanks for the review.

To be honest, the "real bike" was my Daytona 955i in iconic yellow colour I bought in 1999. It was a true racer and I get goosebumps when I remember riding it too fast on too narrow roads. As time and age went on I distanced myself from that type of bike, looking for more comfort to the old bones. To me the new "Daytona" looks boring and doesn't attract me at all. The CBR looks like a CBR and the Aprilia looks great - that's how a Sportsbike should look. So, thanks for the show as always 👍🏻

My head is in clean air while fairing provides enough protection to make highway ride comfortable. I only wish it to be a bit more upright. Probably it will take a year or so before clip-on risers hit the market. Also, I'm waiting on quick shifter to become available.

Your point on the name being a questionable marketing choice is spot on. People have an emotional attachment to vehicles and the name therein. Perhaps the Sebring would have been another choice. Here in the states, Chevy came out with a midsize front wheel drive, four cylinder powered SUV and named it the Blazer. Well anyone who remembers the old Blazer, a large, tough, 4 wheel drive on and off road vehicle powered by the ubiquitous Chevy V8 hates the use of such a storied name which relegates the prospective buyer pool to soccer moms and people with no automotive knowledge.

Great review as always, RM. When the Tiger Sport came out a few years ago I was really excited as it ticked a lot of the right boxes. But I was totally underwhelmed by the motor and found it a bit buzzy. I had a '09 675 Street Triple R and loved that bike! You would hit about 6k rpm on the tach and the bike would take off up to redline. In my experience, the 660 motor is linear and not as fun as the 675 engine even though power wise they are not too far away.

A Good review on the merits of $10k sports bike! All I would add is that the "Daytona" name dates back to the late '60's. At that time, it was only a T100 with hotter cams, twin carburetors and a close ratio transmission. The current bike follows this 57 year old formula. Hopefully, it will sell in numbers that the marvellious 675 could not achieve

As a Triumph owner I can’t agree that it’s a bad call from Triumph to use the Daytona name for a lesser bike. The super bike trend isn’t there in the segment any more (it is but not that it would make economical sense to Triumph) so it makes sense to make a more approachable bike instead. But if the buyers scream for a more powerful Daytona, Triumph could easily make it possible to fit components that would make it more powerful and with better forks etc. there IS a pack with different forks for those that would like to race the Daytona. So all hope isn’t lost.

Triumph's naming conventions have been screwed up since day 1 of the resurrection in 1991. The only names they properly matched to the bike was the Bonneville and Thruxton. Even then, the T100 and T120 stuff was confusing, because a T100 was a 500, a size down from the biggest twin. But from 2001-2015 they put the T100 name on the BIGGEST TWIN, not the 2nd biggest. The modern T100 should be a T120, the modern T120 should be a T140. The rest of the classic names -- Thunderbird, Tiger, Daytona, are all over the map, what they've slapped the names onto. For chrissakes the Rocket 3 was a BSA, not even a Triumph.

White is one of my favorite colors, too. I hate it on cars, love it on bikes. It's one of my favorite bike colors. I think anybody who rides a bike that is black should be flogged, but as they say, "this is a matter of taste." Flogging the guy , I mean, is a matter of taste.😁 Maybe because as a boy my first bike was white, and the color white imprinted on me like a baby duck. 🦆🐤 I hadn't heard of this bike at all, until now. They souped it up! Good on them! The 660 Tiger is just a 660 Trident with a fairing and a couple grand added to its price. ps, any bike that goes 0-60 in 5.7 seconds or less, is a quick bike, and under 4 seconds is a really fast bike.

I testrode this bike and loved the handling and the engine. That triple is so smooth. But i didnt like the riding position. Im 6’2 with a long upperbody so for me its to cramped and to much lent forward riding position. You cant rise the bars either. Its not as bad as the R7. The Daytona is similar in riding position to the Honda cbr650r but felt the honda more comfy and roomy but want more torque down below. Its sad because the Honda CBR650R is so beautiful. The best comfy bike with higher bars i testrode was the Suzuki GSX8R. Its more like a sporttourer but with better pricetag. It handled great but not sure of that front looks. Felt the engine a little quirky at lower rpms. The best engine for me overall is the triple bacause i want a smooth engine that handles great in lower rpms. Triumph if you listen you have to make i bigger roamier bike for us that are not interesting in track racing but just love the looks of a sporty bikes with fairings. Testrode the ninjasx1000 years ago and loved it but its to pricey. Want that bike in800-900 cc better priced and lower insurance cost. I simply have to conclude that I am not in the target market for this bike. I'm 45 years old, and wanted last year to upgrade from my Street Triple 675R and scratch the sportbike itch. I would have definitely tested this if it had been out, but I don't think it would have swayed my decision to buy my 2022 BMW S1000RR, which is both a great sport tourer and an unompromised superbike, with enough comfort for me. I know it's more expensive but if I could have found something I liked cheaper it would still be worth comparing. The point is that there are no 660-ish capacity sportbikes with all the features (active suspension, lean-sensitive ABS etc) found on the flagship superbikes. As shown here, this new class of middleweights tends to be rather budget. I would have happily bought the plush, gorgeous and fast Speed Triple 1200 RR if it didn't require younger knees, I don't understand how Triumph priced that to my generation but with Gen-Z ergonomics.. I do think the Tiger 900 could be in my future though!

This means those loud fanboys are literally a vocal minority and we have the receipts to show for it. Most of the time when company fails to launch a new product in the new internet age, is when business can't separate real customers with loud minority internet fanboy complaints. As Steve Jobs once famously said and paraphrasing - don't ask what the customer want, look at what they do. That's because customers will tell you all sorts of things like they WANT a hardcore track focus sports bike, but when push comes to shove, they buy a much more "sensible" bike cos hey reality came kicking down the door and they can't afford one or can only own one bike etc etc. We saw it ourselves - the 600cc middle class track bikes were "dream bikes" for many, but most people just ended up getting the sensible usable road sports 650 Ninjas or Honda.
