I agree completely. That’s what’s so good about this! I’ve seen videos where it’s people trying Aussie foods like this but the versions of the foods they’ve eaten are the overly adventurous, gourmet versions and so it never feels authentic. Seems like this guy is making the Aussie classics so they really do look and taste like home.

Cornish pasties. Originally baked by the wives and mothers of Cornish tin miners. A complete food in one package. The miners would take the pasties underground and could keep working while they ate. The stiff crush on one side was used to hold the pastie and discarded, as it became dirty from the miners' hands. Pies are eaten at football and cricket matches, washed down with a old beer. The pie must never be too hot to burn your mouth or fingers. A pie floater is the best. A pie placed upside down in a bowl, covered with mashed potato and mushy peas (sometimes pea soup), add gravy and/or tomato sauce. One of my favourite comfort foods. As Aussie as you can get.

vanilla slice are called custard slice here in NZ and the pastie are Cornish Pasties, but they're originally from the Welsh miners, it's what they ate in the mines, the curled edge was thicker and it's what they held onto with the coal covered fingers. But we NZers have similar bakery foods. The lemington is a great prank food, cover a cleaning sponge of similar dimensions and cover it in chocolate a coconut, LOL.

cant argue that the ol pie and sausage roll are quintessential. everything presented here is staple bakery foods. you can get these at literally any country town. the only things a town needs is a pub, a bakery and a post office. I have a point of contention however. sauce application. sauce. bite, sauce. bite, sauce. part of the role of it is to cool the meat. still, kudos for bringing the rural aussie bakery to LA. how America does not do meat pies, blows my mind. You can, and we do, Pie everything. thai, indian, english curry. spag bol. cheeseburger. every meat from steak chunks to fish. bacon and eggs. spinach and ricotta. a somewhat common appliance is a pie maker (I hazard a guess its a bit like a waffle iron in the US, not every house will have one, but its by no means strange) cut some puff pastry, plonk it in, few scoops of filling, plug it in for a few minutes, BAM, Pie. I mainly use mine for leftovers. whatever was in the pot from dinner last night, usually for breakfast or lunch. curry, stew, pasta, chinese take out, if it can fit in a spoon, it can be pie'd. interestingly, the pastie is traditionally a Cornish Pastie. same filling, but a much thicker, harder pastry, and a bigger seam. the idea was, as a coal miner, you could hold the crust, eat the filling and ditch the crust, cos your filthy coal covered hands didnt touch the good stuff. YEAH, PIES FTW! also, try and eat a vanilla slice like you aughta. with your god given hands. its a skill ;-)

Pastie not pasti. The original is actually a Cornish pastie which has a large pinched crust originally designed for miners with dirty hands to have something to hold onto when having their lunch down in a mine. It predates all other folded short crust savory pastry such as pasties, empanadas and such.
