As an afficionado of high-end steakhouses and as one who is often invited to author restaurant reviews for several well-established publications, I was eager to dine at Alexander's during a recent visit to Los Angeles. From the outset, everything struck me as over the top: the hyper-zealous maître d', the selection of exotic beverages, the multinational fare (steaks assorted and classified in accordance with national heritage), the elaborate ordering procedures, and surely the cost. While the porterhouse and prime rib each proved satisfying, the Japanese wagyu was inordinately over-priced as was the Australian Tomahawk, which exuded a unique secondary flavor that my (admittedly limited) French-American taste buds rejected. In sum, Alexander's offers a lovely setting in which to enjoy an array of modernized classics and, for the so-inclined brave of heart, alternative culinary options apt to please discriminating palates. That said, there is something irritatingly pretentious about a steakhouse where dinner for two can easily exceed a thousand US dollars.The global experience, while surely not without virtue or appeal, left me wanting, and I hastened my return to Manhattan where superb dining adventures await.

@RockstarEater And thank you for your gracious reply. In the context of my meta-review, I neglected to express my appreciation to you. Your channel offers viewers wonderful opportunities to experience, if vicariously, the pleasures of dining in a vast array of eateries. Kudos!

Might have to splurge here some time. That area with the art deco city hall and Myron Hunt Library is a great setting, too.

@@anta-zj3bw “Influencers” get invited to eat for free on meals like that all the time. That restaurant’s food cost is probably around 25-30%. If you think about it, it’s cheap advertising for them. Those items were probably chosen by the restaurant to be sent out to to spotlight… no way they would have ordered all that food if they were paying for it. Watch his other videos and you’ll notice the same patterns.
@WinstonWhite-l9j4 күн бұрын
1200 comp is not much for the restaurant, for them to advertise normally to tens of thousands of viewers would cost them much more than that…

Well, I don't see the value. I live in France and I have at set of Michelin starred restaurants around me in a 50 miles range. For 20-50% of the price I can have there a 4-5 course dinner for two which is balanced and not beef after beef. The restaurant's setting is dull. In addition, I don't have to see here guests who eat with their hands, we use forks and knifes.
