CLIP DESCRIPTION:
After a rough start, Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) fights back and beats Clubber (Mr. T).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Sylvester Stallone returns to the character which made him famous in this wildly successful sequel. Rocky III starts with the Italian Stallion so famous that his likeness is everywhere, including pinball machines. Fame and complacency soon cause Balboa to lose his title to young thug Clubber Lang (Mr. T), who inadvertently causes the death of Rocky's beloved trainer, Mickey (Burgess Meredith), before their first championship bout. After sinking into a depression, Balboa must regain the love and support of his family, as well as the elusive "eye of the tiger," the hungry need to beat the opponent which former foe Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) teaches him during this film's de rigueur training sequence. In the end, Balboa faces off against Lang for a second time. "Eye of the Tiger," the theme song Stallone commissioned from the band Survivor, became a huge hit single.

Rocky just looks like he's the strongest version of himself in Rocky 4 because Drago is big, scary and punches hard, but people forget that they only saw the Russian fight a past-his-prime 37-to-39-year-old Rocky and a way-past-his-prime 43-year-old Apollo Creed...in my opinion THIS is the strongest version of Rocky and at this point he would dominate Drago (as would Apollo from the first 2 movies)...

Rocky just took the punches and remained standing in all the parts. If you compare with real life greats it would be Apollo as mohd Ali. Clubber as Mike Tyson. Ivan drago as klistcho brothers. Rocky as ? Rocky Marciano maybe. No I don't think there have been many great heavyweight champion boxers who are white. Of course in reality if any boxer were to take these kind of punches he would be dead even before the referee counts to 9. Multiple jabs punches and hooks right on the head chin and face enough to scramble your brains, poo your eyes out and dislocate the jaws.

A primed Apollo would have definitely beaten Clubber Lang but it would have taken him 7 or 8 rounds if he relied mainly on his speed. Fighting like Apollo in the first round did so little against Clubber that Rocky said "the man is strong". Lang did not get exhausted until Rocky decides to intentionally absorb his best punches.

I don't think so. remember when Apollo told Rocky "if you think l am tough, this guy(Lang) is gonna kill you. Apollo is admitting that Lang is harder to defeat. Apollo is a good dancer, but Lang is a beast, he would know how to corner Apollo and knock him down. Also remember that Apollo and Lang fought a different Rocky. You guys always compare Apollo and Lang based on their fight vs Rocky.

I liked Mick and all, but what's crazy to me is how Him passing was the only way of Rocky getting to the next level. Mickey was great but he could have never retrained Rocky the way Apollo did. He changed his whole style. This was the first time Rocky couldn't out-slug somebody. He had to out-box them and who better to teach him than Apollo? Plus let's face it, Apollo was extra motivated because this kind of justified his loss to Rocky. He knew he was the far better boxer and far better athlete, but just couldn't put him away, and Clubber annihilated Rocky inside of two rounds when Apollo could'n't do it in two 15 round fights..which virtually rendered Apollo irrelevant! You could tell that when he was training Rocky, he was looking at him like "how could this be the guy that beat me? I still don't get it." Clubber looks at Rocky crooked too right before He knocks Him out in the first fight, as if to say "THIS is the famous Rocky? This guy's a joke! How pathetic.Take a seat". As Rocky stated in the movie Creed to Adonis, time is what beat Apollo..which I thought was a great line. He was at the tail end of his career and he knew that's why he couldn't put Rocky away. However, Apollo was a very pride filled guy and I respect the way he went out. He knew he was the better boxer than Rocky. Heck, he won virtually every round but 2 out of the 15 in that second fight, and he knows damn well if they fought for the third time he could've easily gotten a victory and taken the title back. But he wasn't a points guy. He was taking Rocky out or he was moving on. This was his last shot at victory, and he really nailed it. I almost felt bad for Apollo throughout the series. With the focus on Rocky, you see the rise of a champion. However, the real story was the fall of a champion. The moment Rocky knocked down Apollo, his whole life changed. He was forever trying to prove himself..he had to taunt Rocky to have a rematch even though He WON the fight, He had to convince Rocky to jump in His corner and let Him train Him after He saw Clubber crush Him, and then He was being upstaged again in 4 when Drago came calling out Rocky in a fight. Apollo literally died protecting His legacy. He knew that he was in danger of not only losing the fight but losing his LIFE, and he orders Rocky to not stop the fight, winks at His Wife when He was all but destroyed, and went out a boss. He was a champion like no one can fathom..not even Rocky. Long Live Apollo Creed!

Rocky might be exhausted, but he looks in a lot better shape than he did after any of the other big matches in Rocky or Rocky II. He let himself take beatings in Round 2 but Lang didn't do anywhere near the damage that Apollo did. He wears out too quickly and uses up all his strength early on, and with his strength and Apollo's technique, Lang honestly stood no chance.

In terms of actual boxing skill this was prime Rocky, he finally had some good footwork and was able to doge punches and not take them all in the head. Too bad he forgot all of apollo's training and went straight back to his old ways in Rocky 4

Rocky was definitely in his prime here. He was even bigger with more muscle in part 4, but that’s because he had to be. In Rocky 4, Rocky prepared differently for his bout with Drago for a couple of reasons. One, Apollo’s style of jabbing, speed and quick footwork failed against Drago which unfortunately led to his death. This meant Rocky had to revert back to his own variant of the Southpaw style since it was most likely an unorthodox style to Drago. Two, Rocky had to train in the opposite way he did in Rocky 3. Rocky got much larger and built more muscle so he could not only dish out more power than he ever has before, but to endure Drago’s punches. Lang was a beast, but Drago was a monster… It wasn’t that Rocky just went back to his old ways out laziness or lack of strategy, he was forced to in order to combat his fiercest opponent yet.

This was absolutely a victory for Apollo Creed as well. Watch Apollo after Rocky tells Adrian "never better" and they announce the winner how Apollo takes in and totally embraces that (sitting on top of the world) feeling being the HW Champ. Classic!

Apollo Creed eerily predicted his own death in this movie even before Stallone decided to kill the character in Rocky IV. When Rocky saves Paulie from getting the beating of his life when they first get to Apollo's old gym, Rocky says to Apollo, "it just takes about six years to get to know him", referring to Paulie, to which Creed replied, "well, I ain't got six years"..... Ironic, huh?

Could be wrong, but I think this is the only film where Rocky actually learns to, you know...box? The only time where he actually dodges and guards rather than standing there and using his face as a punch bag 😂😂at least until he strategically wore Lang down, but you can forgive that, since it was part of his strategy. It might not have been the best Rocky film, but in terms of boxing, it was easily the best of the bunch.
