It is unacceptable if Mr O Gorman has been assaulted. However there is a case to be made for him and many others to be prosecuted for treason. There are non EU migrants who despite having broken immigration law are living in state provided housing in my town. This is also unacceptable.

I can understand how he antagonises people especially with stuff like that tweet to 6 countries telling them to come to Ireland and you’ll get accommodation welfare and the devil and all within weeks, without a thought for the practical consequences of an influx of tens of thousands of people. People get assaulted in Ireland every day often quite severely. Usually the perps waltz out of court with a suspended or very lenient sentence leaving the unfortunate victim distressed and cheated. I suspect this alleged assault will be treated far more seriously by the court.

It's not really about views Terry. I don't want to see violence. Frankly, nobody does. When you are a TD and you claim to be doing something and go and act in the complete opposite way then you find yourself in these positions where people get angry at you. It's an appalling thing for anyone to be assaulted except in necessary defense of self or another living thing (for assaults to animals and such perhaps just forcible restraint if essential while the assault is still in commission). That difference when the assault has terminated or if prolonged or still in commission and whether the perpetrator is known, identified or not should determine the reasonable degree of physical involvement. For a canvassers and the like who approach subjects they should sensibly detach themself from interactions where/when any degree of animus arises.

The sense of betrayal by our politicians and i admit i detest OGORMAN and his policies these politicians do not have the irish peoples interests and i understand the sense of anger people hold these elected politicians need to clarify and communicate with people especially when large group's of men come into a small community there is fear and panic and a feeling of betrayal and a sence that the government are forcing this down people's throats i can see it being a contentious issue in the future for irish society in the future
