A special thanks to Rodney Dangerfields family for allowing KZbin to show the wonderful comedy of Mr Dangerfield. I met Rodney at his club in 1980. He was so kind and loving, like a favorite uncle. Great memories!

Johnny Carson was not only a great comedian, he was also one of the greatest "straight man" in comedy. For a fun experiment, close your eyes, after Rodney sits down on the couch, and listen to Carson murmuring prompts and themes. Two brilliant comics. God bless them both.

This is what made dangerfield on Carson show so good... Johnny which just kinda play off whatever Rodney was saying in almost an agreeing matter which stemmed Rodney to just keep firing those hits... It was so well done and so subtle.. Gotta hand it to Leno to try and carry that same torch when Rodney was on his show too.. he tried to do same thing thing but Johnny was ultimately better at it

Carson's skill as host is never more evident than when Dangerfield appears. Compare Rodney's appearances with Leno, Letterman, etc. with Dangerfield on Carson. Carson was the perfect straight man, always feeding him with lines or reactions to make Dangerfield funnier and faster. Other hosts respected Dangerfield too much, and seemed to be in awe of him. Consequently, they did not react fast enough or feed him leading lines. Dangerfield's appearances with other hosts had more dead intervals-even with Leno.

Rodney live , uncensored , was an incredible show to get to see! One time Rodney just got out on stage & a heckler yelled” Rodney, your fly is open” Rodney answered “ ya, I was just back there playin with your brother”!! I nearly pissed myself laughing .. each line got better and better until you were just laughing so hard practically could not even breathe ! What a great talent and a great guy . Got to meet him in around 1974, then hung out many times , my first boss was a business partner with Rodney , they grew up on Long Island together , were friends and I would drive my boss from ct. into nyc or we would sometimes see him in ct or in Fla. I never got to see him in Vegas but my boss did many times . Rodney would send messages back to me , funny shit to make me laugh! We would have lunch & I tell ya, try eating with Rodney telling you about the waitress, the cook etc. When caddy shack came out we all said his part when they were at the golf clubhouse eating was just classic Rodney fooling around !! Damn he was funny , yet one of the nicest guys off stage .. a sweet guy, generous , of course hilarious , but just a warm, nice guy. I miss him , my old boss passed away too , he was almost as funny as Rodney! The two of them together was a thing to behold ! That generation was the best ! I was known back then as the kid!
