you guys totally forgot that Leia was literally on her way to get obi wan before she got intercepted by Vader in episode 4, she knew where he was cause she was told by that dude aka her foster dad, her message says it all, obi wan your my only hope, she was told by her foster father to inform obi wan or get him to join the cause but before she leaves the rebel fleet is called into battle to help get the plans on Scarif, so she changers the original plan of just reaching obi wan, to tagging along with the fleet, she then gets the plans and hyper jumps to Tatooine where she was told of obi wan's location, it fits perfectly. But that's just my opinion.

Well Bail Organa was in the room when Obiwan and Yoda decided to go into exile and split up the kids. So he would know Obiwamn was on Tatooine, although how he intended for Leia to find him on that whole planet is anyone's guess. Also how exactly Obiwan would have helped them take down the Deathstar on the off chance that the plan worked is another question. So if the genosians had the deathstar plans back in return of the clones, and the work had started by the end of sith and took until this movei to get working, how did they get the second death star on line in like 4 yrs?

I did not have issues with the audio of leia: I had to watch Rogue One in my native language because the cinema next to my place doesn't play movies in VO, but the voice over was the originals voices who dubbed the original movies for every old characters, we just had a new audio track.

For me, this movie had all of the problems that Gareth Edwards's Godzilla did (boring leads, slow acts I and II) but set with fun Star Wars Easter Eggs/appearances and a pretty exhilarating final act. I don't think it touches the original trilogy or The Force Awakens, but it was entertaining enough, and was definitely on a different level than the prequels.

I loved Jyn. I connected with her almost instantly. Might be the dad thing. Probably the dad thing. The "doesn't matter if you don't look up" is brilliant because it's the statement of the way the majority of people look at world injustice, and the move from indifference to care is in taking up her dead father's goal. The character building is fast, but it has to be, because you only have this one film. And the extremist rebel/terrorist Jedha/Aleppo-ish connection was also super well done. I really liked it. Leia has to know where Obi Wan is because she sends him R2D2, so her dad probably knows, too to send her. Also, on the "lightning in a bottle" argument, part of it is time period. A New Hope wouldn't survive today. People would tear it a new one. People rip it to pieces anyway. Those slow fights, that random hole, Old Ben/Obi, Denim, why can't they actually brace those walls, the pacing is super slow, C3P0 is crazy annoying, that desert must be really small for them to run into each other again, bodies disappear?, good thing the "force" is there to brush it all away, etc... but because of the time period it was released (pre internet), and because most of us saw it as children we forgive it and love it. :shrugs: maybe I'm wrong.

I'm glad you got into the diceyness (diciness?) of including CG Tarkin. I thought his inclusion was --just as you said--fantastic. That was super cool. But is that something we want to happen in the future? Do we want a 2026 remake of James Bond starring CGI Sean Connery? It's iffy stuff, but I'm excited to see how the medium develops.

I really enjoyed Rogue One and in my view, renewed my faith in SWs on the movie side. I enjoyed the creativity of the movie and the characters. Though, I won't lie; I wished some, like Bodi were better fleshed out. I also felt like the pacing for the first half was a bit slow. Rewatching, I felt this less, but really that's due to me knowing where it was going. I think the movie at the very least needed an extra fifteen to twenty mins or maybe cut some of those planets to get everyone together. Also, some scenes, like the tentacle monster were unnecessary. But why I loved this movie over TFA was that it got the team dynamic again. The OT had that. Han the smuggler, marksman and pilot; Leia, the political face/ use a blaster and Luke the magic/ Force user/ pilot. We got that and in my view, the movie's third act really brings this tenfold. TFA, while I don't hate; I always felt like it was more Rey and friends. Where she did a majority of things. And while most of that was explained, it would have been better had TFA done it like Rogue One. But that said, I'll say that while I enjoyed the chemistry of the Rogue One group, TFA's actors had more of it. Overall, this was the prequel we should have gotten years ago. It renewed my faith in the brand. And I cannot wait to see Episode Eight, as one of my favorite directors, Rian Johnson, is helming the project. Score: 85/100

I know I am going to get a lot of hate for saying this, but I found Rogue One to be an okay movie. It was not good, but it was not bad either. It was kind of average for me and a little disappointing. Felicity Jones's character (Jyn) kind of fell flat for me, though I did like some of the supporting cast. The story itself was okay, but there were issues I had with it in which things just did not make sense. The movie also felt rough in places. And worse of all, it just did not feel like a Star Wars movie. I am sure I am going to get hate for saying this, but I do not care. I have plenty of other controversial opinions about Star Wars so if anyone else would like to hear those and hate me even more, by all means ask away.

i might be the only one who liked it more than episode 7, I love RLM but disagreed. Though many characters weren't rounded out i wouldn't call the first act boring, it reminded me of a heist film like The Italian Job, you have to get the characters together and to throw them together too quick wouuld've been folly. Plus, Gareth directed Monsters which is one of my favorite sci-fi films and very much a character study that just happens to have aliens in it. CGI Tarkin wasn't as bad as everyone had said, in my opinion

smileyShiiZniTZ Honestly I didn't realize Leia was CG until after the movie. She looked fuzzy but I attributed it a white back ground with stock footage of her overlayed onto it with Carrie Fisher doing a voice over. And the CGI on Tarkin was all that terrible. I only really noticed because I knew Cushing was dead and he looked a little too wrinkly and clay like. Plus unlike what Dylan thought he wasn't full CG just his face the body was a real actor for the other people to talk to and emote with.

I enjoyed the movie. Had some problems with it, not many. I didn't really like the Tarkin thing as it really didn't escape the uncanny valley for me and it looked cartoonish and kind of took me out of the experience. My other main problem was in the choice of pretty much every scene ending up being a close up. It worked for some of the battle scenes to make you really feel the scale of the battle as you saw it from a soldier's POV but I didn't see why almost every scene was pulled in so close to characters that in scenes where I'm supposed to be feeling one thing instead I felt mostly claustrophobic. Also, of the two Vader scenes for some reason I can't quite pin down in the first scene in his lava castle thing he looked a little off. Loved the second scene he was in though at the end of the film. Everything else I pretty much liked
@Herosmurf
@Herosmurf 8 жыл бұрын
Oh and the main thing I actually loved about the movie which was it's main good point for me was the reason for why the Death Star had that structural weakness. Because for me that's one of the main things I want from a prequel really. Because we've seen the original movies lots of times and it works fine on its own but now seeing Rogue One makes you think differently about an aspect of the original and adds new depth
@Herosmurf
@Herosmurf 8 жыл бұрын
Okay, just got the bit where you talk about Vader and yes I agree. You hit the nail on the head with the too large thing that was the problem and idk his helmet kind of didnt look right. I've noticed that with Rebels and Rogue One that they keep making Vader's eyes red on his helmet but I never remember them being all that red at all in the OT. Also, the bottom of his helmet by his neck looked too disconnected from the rest of his suit
@Herosmurf
@Herosmurf 8 жыл бұрын
And just a point on how Leia's foster father knew where Obi Wan was, he was one of the only people to know as he was part of the plan to hide Luke and Leia in Episode 3 so he knows Obi Wan is on Tattooine but the rest of the rebels don't know. At least, that seems to make the most sense

The Tarkin/Lea CGI stuff makes me more just concerned that other movies will exploit this dead/too-old actor de-aging thing. I would have been just as happy if Rogue One had cast another actor. Yes, it's interesting to have a continuity of similar appearing actors for the character, but it wasn't necessary. BUT if putting him in, they really should have not zoomed in on long comments from Tarkin.
@jabezcreed
@jabezcreed 8 жыл бұрын
It wasn't a bad movie, so that's not the basis of my comment. But to make a better character out of Jyn, I really wanted to see a little more of her backstory and to see her have some real emotion in the Rebel planning meeting. She's basically a picked up fighter who happens to be the Death Star architect's daughter, who gets brought into the meeting talking about hope and fighting back. If we would have seen more of her searching for or defending her father's honor during the movie, that scene would have had more weight. Instead she is dismissed by their Rebel committee and then inspires some rag tag group in the fighter plane hanger.
@jabezcreed

I believe Dylan's comments at 55:00 are the basis for the original cut of the movie. Hence the "I rebel" comment from the trailer. I wanted her to be a more plucky character.

I'm probably in the minority, but ROTJ is my favorite SWs film. It has a ton of flaws, but the Luke Skywalker stuff, plus that final space battle, were great. I do think Empire is the best made SWs movie. But I prefer ROTJ. ROTS, is actually my third favorite film. I know, sacrilegious, but I loved the themes of the movie and the acting was decent. McGregor and Mcdiamond really shined as Kenobi and Palpatine. But after Rogue One, I'll be re-arranging my list. TFA will be off, I can say that.
