Hello Mark! Where did you get the Sub price of $14,600 for the date sub? I just checked the Rolex website and it is showing $8,950 for the No-Date Sub, $10,100 for the Date Sub, and $10,600 for the StarBucks/Cermit. Are you sure you're not thinking/talking about the Panda Daytona?

In terms of the secondary market it's just absolutely crazy... saw a Panda on a site for $48k and I think you are well on track interns of your predictions. Agree in regard to your point about buying the prior generation on the secondary market. They are a relatively bargain at the moment and you do not have to romance the AD.

I will continue to build my relationship with my AD. OP41 Black in five months last year. Put my name down for a Sub and I believe that will happen this year. I stop by monthly (in the morning when it is quiet) with a good attitude and something to talk about. Getting to know the staff and they are starting to pull watches out of the safe to show me. They showed my the Tiffany last month and even though not offered, cool to see in the flesh. Wear my Rolex each visit and let them know how much I enjoy it and thankful to have it.

I commented on a post about how I touched base with the AD once a month before getting my watch. The person responded back that “ I wasn’t told that reaching back out was part of the process, I haven’t talked to them since the first time two years ago”. Some of this is common sense and people skills.it is like not sending an email the day after a job interview and wondering why they gave it to someone else.

I love the no date Submariner. The 1^ of February 2018 I bought a new to me (2015) 114060 from a reseller and I wear it with attention for about a year. The watch was in good conditions but I decided to sold it in January 2019 in order to buy a real new 114060. The 2^ of February 2019 I received from the AD (after a month of wait and was my first AD purchase) my new 114060 that could tell my story from the beginning . What an excitement. I really love this iconic watch and I will never sell it.

I bought a 2019 sub 40mm date(new) and a no date(worn) in september. For both of them I was thinking about buying the 41mm one instead for a 1000€ (1200$) additional premium. Logically I tough since the 40mm is discontinnued this is the best long term investment. However since there are plenty made in the past and there might never get plenty be made of the 41mm. If your informed predictions are even close to right, and if ADs know this too, then there has got to be a movement of watches off the books now, and into dealers' safes, in spite of whatever dire threats Rolex HQ makes. Buy them at MSRP, log the sale, and put it away, without it ever leaving the shop. Does Rolex Corporate have any credible programme of stopping this? Because why on Earth sell anything at list price -- even to a prize client -- if it can be sold in 11 months at this margin?

For retailers, it’s all about turning the inventory at margin. Sellers do want to sell watches. But when prices become unstable on certain models aftermarket sellers may well hold them. Turquoise OP 41 as a recent example.

Marc clearly explained his prediction in the video and it’s not rocket science to say that the prices will keep going up, especially with discontinued models like your 114060. The more you want to profit from selling your no date sub, the longer you will have to wait. Simple as. In any case you can sell it for more than you bought it for so it’s a luxury situation to be in. Sell now for ~$13-14k or end of the year/2023 for ~$20-25k, if the market is moving as it has so far.

Greatr video Marc, I think the 5 digit, 16610, submariner is the sweet spot, with the smaller classic vintage style case, not a big fan of the supercase watches, but the solid center links and glide-lock clasp are really nice!

It's clear the secondary market is here to stay. These prices are part of the pyramid that's been created where grey market/resellers have invested into other grey/resold pieces, and the prices continue to jack up because people are buying at current market prices. It's a self perpetuating problem that won't lower prices... ever. I honestly think these secondary prices are firmly set, and we'll never see prices what they were. We'd need a complete economic collapse, and even then, doubtful. In other words, we'll never see a GMT Master II for under $20K, vintage (Coke, for example) will eventually get up there and beyond. So if you can't buy new for $10K, which will over time increase it's price as well, you're destined to pay double+, and that'll be the new "norm".

Does it make sense for you to buy the 36 mm instead of the 41 for the difference in price ?. I found it at Eur 13,7 k. For the Coral 41 I need Eur 6K more. The best way to get into Rolex is the neo-vintage 1990-95 five digit sport watches, subs, Explorers (the 36mm Explorers and the Polar IIs) GMTs and sea dwellers. These are still reliable watches with sapphire crystals but with beautiful tritium dials and holes case. This is the actual sweet spot, better looking than the modern chunky variants and will move into the pricier vintage range in 5-8 years!!
