Main Romance languages: Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian, French. Main Germanic languages: Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Dutch, German, English. English, French and Romanian are sort of oddballs in their categories. English because of its Latin influences, French because of its Germanic influences and Romanian because of its Slavic influences.

French have germanic influence????
@giovanniacuto26885 жыл бұрын
@@jmundi2002The original inhabitants of France were Gauls (a type of Celt) whose language largely disappeared during the Roman occupation and was replaced by a sort of vulgar Latin. When the Romans left, various German-speaking tribes invaded. One of these were the Franks (name still exists in Frankfurt). Their dialect influenced the language already spoken particularly in the North. In the South the version of French spoken was Provencal which I think was closer to Latin. The French authorities suppressed it but it is still spoken in some of the Alpine valleys in Western Italy next to the French border
@Dracopol5 жыл бұрын

@Dracopol5 жыл бұрын
@@jmundi2002 Yes, the Gallo-Romans spoke a kind of modified Latin but were conquered by Germanic tribes called the Franks. Frankish was for a time a prestige language. People pronounced the old Latin words in a new Germanic way. Pura (pure, clean) was pronounced "POO-ra" in the Latin way before, but under Germanic influence was now pure ("pür") and now just means pure. Germanic sounds entered the language because of sound-switches like this! The sounds spelled in French oe, eu and u (and in Germanic tongues ö, ø and ü) entered the language. There are also nasal vowel-sounds in French too, 4 of them, spelled (an/en, in, on, and un) where the n is not actually pronounced but indicates you should nasalize a vowel (pronounce with a closed-off nasal passage in the back of your throat with the back of your tongue). Portuguese has some nasal vowels too.

You see, there are 4 different latins: -ancient latin -midage latin -modern school latin -modern church latin I personally think, the modern church latin (lingua latina ecclesiastica) would be best because you can speak it easyly and fast (that's why I'm learning that type of latin).
@Rolando_Cueva5 жыл бұрын
@@maatheizzda3751 4 different Latins lmao. There is only one, Classical Latin (nobody teaches Vulgar latin in schools). Church Latin is the same but with Italian pronunciation.
@maatheizzda37515 жыл бұрын
@@Rolando_Cueva Well, church latin is not exactly the same like classical: e.g. there are words a bit different: classical: COMPREHENDERE, GRATIIS church: comprēndere, gratīs Also mid age latin exists too which isn't either classical/ancient latin. E.g.: classical: DEVS ID VVLT. mid age: Devs lo vvlt. The modern school latin is like classical latin but it has an other orthography: E.g.: classical: MEA AMICA PVLKRA EST. school: Mea amica pulchra est. Also, if vulgar latin is teached or not, it existed though. But you're right, it's not an extra latin form, that are just dialects of the classical latin. Conclusion: There exist 4 types of latin.

As a Mexican (Spanish speaker) 🇲🇽, here is what I understood of the other romance languages on this video. My mother tongue is Spanish and I also speak Portuguese. I wanna learn French and Catalan! 🇮🇹 Italian/Italiano 🇮🇹: The north (of Italy) will be largely sunny. Occasional afternoon showers are not entirely ruled out in the alpine areas of Veneto and in the Piedmontese highlands. Clear or slightly cloudy sky. In the center of the country it will be densely cloudy in the Tyrrhenian strip and in Sardinia, where, in particular, temporary periods of sunshine are not ruled out. Widely sunny weather in the remaining sectors. In the south it will be good weather in all our regions. TRASLATION: As the day progresses, the sky will become much clearer, with temperatures still above 30 degrees, especially in the southern part of the country. In Asturias, the morning will also be marked by clouds, some showers and much lower temperatures; as you can see, some exceeding 20 °. Of course, during the afternoon, the rainfall will subside and be more and more occasional, but the sky will remain completely cloudy. There will be more intense and stormy showers in areas of the peninsular southeast. Undoubtedly there will be instability and there the thermal drop will be noticeable. As we told you, the situation for the following days will still be marked by the intense heat in much of Spain and also by the storms that will begin to affect the east of the peninsula. Nothing more. Enjoy the night! 🇷🇴 Romanian/Română 🇷🇴 Degrees Celsius, center, north, Moldova, precipitation, temperatures, especially in the north, zones, precipitation, moment. (That's all I understood, sorry 😅). 🇦🇩 Catalan/Català 🇦🇩: Let's start in the morning: there will be sunshine and periods of cloudiness in certain parts of the north and the extreme south; temperatures will increase. At noon the temperature will drop again and instability will decrease, the sky will clear up in a more punctual and scattered way, temperatures will increase a little more and will continue that same trend in the coming days. There will be some showers in the afternoon in the interior of the Valencian Country and there will also be some showers in the Balearic Islands; The weather in the Balearic Islands will also stabilize, which will cause the temperature to rise. This would be the weather trend today and the next few days. It will be a little more stable weather, with rising temperatures, starting Thursday and Friday. 🇧🇷 Brazilian Portuguese/Português Brasileiro 🇧🇷: (Esta) é a chamada zona de convergência do Atlântico Sul. It is not a real perception as a degree of understanding between speakers of Romance languages. The more often you hear a language (possibly of international circulation) and you are used to it, the better it seems to you to understand it. The Romanian language, for example, is not as well known and publicized as the others, which is why some speakers of Romance languages find it a little harder to understand.
@annarr55434 жыл бұрын

This "degree of separation from Latin" is based only on phonetics and it's inaccurate in my opinion.
@Erik_Emer5 жыл бұрын
That's one of the factors, but another one factor why a language is more separated from it's ancestor is conservation of original vocabulary. Latin for "to dream" is "somnio," which is conserved in Spanish as in "soñar" and "sognare" in Italian, but in French, it uses "rêver," which came from the Germanic family. While the Spanish and Italian words retain the original word with the original meaning, French no longer uses the word that came from "somnio."
@cmoi2b5 жыл бұрын
@@Erik_Emer Well there's "songer", a synonym of rêver in french that comes from the latin roots. There are also the words related to sleep like somne (nap) or somnabule (sleepwalker).

I think that "songer" would be pretty rare to hear in the context of "to sleep," though.

@Rick its because of the pronunciation. The changes may be minor, but, when words fly one after the other, it becomes very hard to keep track of the latin denominator (which makes us Romanians understand the language). Its the exact problem that makes Romanian unintelligible to others. But when you see it written, its almost like italian (and if it doesn't resemble italian, then it resembles latin words from other romance languages. and if you add 20% non latin words (or PROTO-LATIN, words, or latin words that the western romance languages didn't use), you really get discouraged and lose any hope of understading it)

Why are you Latin guys so familiar with French? As a German, Spanish seems much easier to understand. I mean it seems like French is so different from the other latin languages.
@DieterRahm18455 жыл бұрын
@@steffen5121 It's not different. Its structures, vocabulary and verbs are very similar to Spanish. French pronunciation is quite tricky though. I don't know French, but as a Spanish native speaker I can understand about 30% of a written text.
