Main Romance languages: Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian, French. Main Germanic languages: Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Dutch, German, English. English, French and Romanian are sort of oddballs in their categories. English because of its Latin influences, French because of its Germanic influences and Romanian because of its Slavic influences.

@giovanniacuto2688 5 жыл бұрын
@@jmundi2002The original inhabitants of France were Gauls (a type of Celt) whose language largely disappeared during the Roman occupation and was replaced by a sort of vulgar Latin. When the Romans left, various German-speaking tribes invaded. One of these were the Franks (name still exists in Frankfurt). Their dialect influenced the language already spoken particularly in the North. In the South the version of French spoken was Provencal which I think was closer to Latin. The French authorities suppressed it but it is still spoken in some of the Alpine valleys in Western Italy next to the French border

@@jmundi2002 Yes, the Gallo-Romans spoke a kind of modified Latin but were conquered by Germanic tribes called the Franks. Frankish was for a time a prestige language. People pronounced the old Latin words in a new Germanic way. Pura (pure, clean) was pronounced "POO-ra" in the Latin way before, but under Germanic influence was now pure ("pür") and now just means pure. Germanic sounds entered the language because of sound-switches like this! The sounds spelled in French oe, eu and u (and in Germanic tongues ö, ø and ü) entered the language. There are also nasal vowel-sounds in French too, 4 of them, spelled (an/en, in, on, and un) where the n is not actually pronounced but indicates you should nasalize a vowel (pronounce with a closed-off nasal passage in the back of your throat with the back of your tongue). Portuguese has some nasal vowels too.

As a Mexican (Spanish speaker) 🇲🇽, here is what I understood of the other romance languages on this video. My mother tongue is Spanish and I also speak Portuguese. I wanna learn French and Catalan! 🇮🇹 Italian/Italiano 🇮🇹: The north (of Italy) will be largely sunny. Occasional afternoon showers are not entirely ruled out in the alpine areas of Veneto and in the Piedmontese highlands. Clear or slightly cloudy sky. In the center of the country it will be densely cloudy in the Tyrrhenian strip and in Sardinia, where, in particular, temporary periods of sunshine are not ruled out. Widely sunny weather in the remaining sectors. In the south it will be good weather in all our regions. TRASLATION: As the day progresses, the sky will become much clearer, with temperatures still above 30 degrees, especially in the southern part of the country. In Asturias, the morning will also be marked by clouds, some showers and much lower temperatures; as you can see, some exceeding 20 °. Of course, during the afternoon, the rainfall will subside and be more and more occasional, but the sky will remain completely cloudy. There will be more intense and stormy showers in areas of the peninsular southeast. Undoubtedly there will be instability and there the thermal drop will be noticeable. As we told you, the situation for the following days will still be marked by the intense heat in much of Spain and also by the storms that will begin to affect the east of the peninsula. Nothing more. Enjoy the night! 🇷🇴 Romanian/Română 🇷🇴 Degrees Celsius, center, north, Moldova, precipitation, temperatures, especially in the north, zones, precipitation, moment. (That's all I understood, sorry 😅). 🇦🇩 Catalan/Català 🇦🇩: Let's start in the morning: there will be sunshine and periods of cloudiness in certain parts of the north and the extreme south; temperatures will increase. At noon the temperature will drop again and instability will decrease, the sky will clear up in a more punctual and scattered way, temperatures will increase a little more and will continue that same trend in the coming days. There will be some showers in the afternoon in the interior of the Valencian Country and there will also be some showers in the Balearic Islands; The weather in the Balearic Islands will also stabilize, which will cause the temperature to rise. This would be the weather trend today and the next few days. It will be a little more stable weather, with rising temperatures, starting Thursday and Friday. 🇧🇷 Brazilian Portuguese/Português Brasileiro 🇧🇷: (Esta) é a chamada zona de convergência do Atlântico Sul. Until the beginning of next week, it will rain heavily with thunderstorms in Goiânia; in Rio and São Paulo there will be rain and low temperatures; in Natal there is a open weather forecast. 🇲🇫 French/Français 🇲🇫: On Saturday it will be cloudy and there will be a very considerable disturbance in the Mediterranean that will have an impact on the southeast. There will be a lot of stability in the center, contrasting with the Mediterranean area or the north. On Sunday there will be a lot of stability in the Pyrenees and the eastern border, with snow on the relief. There will be a disturbance in the northwest of the country, which will affect the weather in the north of France, where we will have rain.

Many people who speak Spanish can listen and more or less understand Catalan, Portuguese, Italian... French and Romanian are more difficult to understand. @@ConstancioRosellini5873 I personally disagree. I find Celtic and Germanic languages more pleasant to the ears than the Romance languages. To me Spanish sounds like gibberish. Brazilian Portuguese sounds like slower Spanish and more easy to catch words so I will put it as somewhat decent. French actually sounds decent and I can actually catch words at a better rate. Italian sounds too exaggerative and as a result a bit annoying yet less annoying than Spanish. Catalan sounds too hyper. Well the only Romance languages I actually like happens to be French and Brazilian Portuguese(I did not hear European Portuguese in terms of how it actually sounds in normal conversations so I am not placing my judgement on it.) .

It is not a real perception as a degree of understanding between speakers of Romance languages. The more often you hear a language (possibly of international circulation) and you are used to it, the better it seems to you to understand it. The Romanian language, for example, is not as well known and publicized as the others, which is why some speakers of Romance languages find it a little harder to understand. @jackthompsonify
@jackthompsonify 2 жыл бұрын
Even though this is a very specific feeling, what you said is actually pretty accurate and I think I can probably explain why... So since Romanian developed separately from all the other Romance languages, a LOT of words that came from Latin ended up having completely different meanings. Like for example the word "heart", instead of being something like coeur/cuore/corazon, it became "inima" in Romanian because it didn't come from the Latin *cor* , but from the Latin *anima* which means "soul". Or like "world", which instead of being something like monde/mundo/mondo, it became "lume" because it came from the Latin word for "light". So one of the main reasons it sounds like a dreamlike Spanish that you can't understand is because you're hearing Latin words which sound like Spanish words, but at the same time, they're not making sense because they're in a sort of weird nonsensical order. Instead of hearing something like "this is the heart of the world" you hear something like "this is the soul of the light" which makes no sense.

Well, there are more languages, but they aren't that popular (like aragonese, occitan, galician etc). Also, there could be issues with weather report in latin. You see, there are 4 different latins: -ancient latin -midage latin -modern school latin -modern church latin I personally think, the modern church latin (lingua latina ecclesiastica) would be best because you can speak it easyly and fast (that's why I'm learning that type of latin).

@@Rolando_Cueva Well, church latin is not exactly the same like classical: e.g. there are words a bit different: classical: COMPREHENDERE, GRATIIS church: comprēndere, gratīs Also mid age latin exists too which isn't either classical/ancient latin. E.g.: classical: DEVS ID VVLT. mid age: Devs lo vvlt. The modern school latin is like classical latin but it has an other orthography: E.g.: classical: MEA AMICA PVLKRA EST. school: Mea amica pulchra est. Also, if vulgar latin is teached or not, it existed though. But you're right, it's not an extra latin form, that are just dialects of the classical latin. Conclusion: There exist 4 types of latin.

@annarr5543
@annarr5543 4 жыл бұрын

As a Guatemalan, i understood Italian: 30% , sounds sexy Romanian: like 3% , Spanish(Spain): 100% Portugese: 90% Catalan???: like 40% French: 100% (fluent in french) knowing spanish and french fluently absolutely opens the gate to actually facilitating learning the rest of the languages, espacially portugese and italian. Hearing latin knowing spanish and french is almost understanding pretty much all of it.

I found this video quite fascinating, however, not for its intended purpose. You never really think about how news outlets and other countries report the weather forecast. I feel like I have learned a lot about these other cultures just from how they warn about the rain in Spain that falls mostly on the plain. Like seriously though, I thoroughly enjoyed observing the differences in each culture respective meteorologist reports.

Catalan= 5,5% (too fast and not understandable 100%) Im so confused how the potuguese and spanish people don't understand the romanian language its similar enough to understand it even i understand spanish even if i didn't learn it but still its ok if you dont understand it because even i somtimes get confused 😅 + italians can understand romanian more than the spanish people the cause of this is history and S.P.Q.R even the romanian people say "Ciao" in tree forms Ceau Ceao or Ciao That's it sorry if im wrong :/ in all the things i said its my opinion and its what i learned.. Anyways i love learning languages i will be more into italian and spanish because french is easy...i also live in france...soo yeah. and portuguese is very interesting and like i said im learning it rn thx for listnin'🙌 (its hard for every romance languages to understand eachother because some of the words and most impotantly the phrases because in romanian you can say "Vreau un ceai vă rog frumos" and if you translate in spanish for an example its "Quiero un buen té por favor" you can see the differences...its the same phrase tho. And for every romance languages if you say something in italian for an example a potuguese cant understand it because of the words...and phrases and accent and the way you say it and the way you roll the "R" in you're thoung👍 (edit : thanks to all of you that liked the comment i was impresed how much likes i have and this is the most liked comment that i had and i wanted to say that the portuguese people have been saying to me why russian why do you say that portuguese sounds like russian and one of the people that replied said that "how do you know it sounds like russian" well first i said it sounds like russian its not russian anddddd. portuguese is a bit difficult not gonna lie. tho its a very cool language that im into rn. and when i dont really understand some phrases i translate it (without google) in my native language romanian or french because i live in france so yeah. thats about it and thanks for the likes ! i will try my best to make a response on your comment thanks you guys are awesome FRAȚI LATINI PENTRU TOATĂ VIAȚA!)... {Oh and one more thing. @Rick its because of the pronunciation. The changes may be minor, but, when words fly one after the other, it becomes very hard to keep track of the latin denominator (which makes us Romanians understand the language). Its the exact problem that makes Romanian unintelligible to others. But when you see it written, its almost like italian (and if it doesn't resemble italian, then it resembles latin words from other romance languages. and if you add 20% non latin words (or PROTO-LATIN, words, or latin words that the western romance languages didn't use), you really get discouraged and lose any hope of understading it)
