Ronnie Coleman goes into detail about the brutal reality of his extremely painful injuries and surgeries.
The chronicle of Ronnie Coleman's laundry list of surgeries is almost as well known now as his eight Mr. Olympia wins. His injuries became so bad that he at certain points was unable to even walk or feel his legs. But just like with bodybuilding, Ronnie never stops working and has been constantly pushing towards walking again without the aid of a wheelchair or crutches. In our latest GI Exclusive Vault interview, Ronnie Coleman explains the reality of his pain, injuries, and surgeries.
GI VAULT - is an extension of our GI Exclusive interviews. The difference? These interviews come straight out of the Generation Iron vault from the cutting room floor of our feature film documentaries. With over hours of interview footage that doesn’t make it into our final films, we’re now releasing them out into the world.
Bodybuilding, fitness, weight training - all on the Generation Iron Fitness Network!

Wouldn't it be something if we all had shit for brains, used steroids, growth formone, and lifted stupidly heavy weights to the extent we destroyed our bodies. If that wasn't enough how about we then undergo surgery not once or twice but a dozen times. Biggest bodybuilder of all time, but also the stupidest. He gets to spend 50 years as a cripple.

I'm glad we don't all have his attitude. Normal motivation isn't a bad thing. Normal people work out and improve themselves without destroying themselves to this degree. I really wish he didn't even have to pay the price for his dedication. I honestly believe someone like Ronnie has some sort of problem that causes them to feel a drive this strong. Quitting isn't a bad thing when the conditions are right.

Back injuries don't just physically hurt, the whole thing is absolutely a humbling experience. Especially when you've been a physical specimen and now you can't even toilet and have to depend on others for everything. It brings you face to face with mortality. It also shows you that in life you have to maintain a positive attitude no matter the situation. Injuries like his expose you to a level of pain that most can't imagine until your living it, but again u have to maintain a positive attitude and just learn how to deal with your new reality

Dang, when he started talking about leg press. 2300, hope that's not what had hurt him. I worked my way up to 1400 and the pressure it exerted on my lower back actually gave me a herniated disc. Luckily, mine resolved, but there's something to be said about pushing your body past the limit...

In short: Due to a disc protrusion with degenerative changes in two vertebrae, a spinal fusion was performed, which Ronnie managed to damage during his extremely excessive bodybuilding training, necessitating a second surgery, i.e., a revision surgery, with an extended spinal fusion over two levels and two spacers, namely two cages. This likely led to pain-induced mobility restrictions with a subsequent nerve lesion.

He did this to himself and he blamed the doctors for surgeries going wrong. They advised him not to work out and what does he do? He goes and works out. He said it himself the chiropractor told him. It to squat and he didn’t listen. Here is a guy who ignored pain and has a high tolerance for it and it worked against him. He never let his body heal. I like Ronnie but I didn’t respect how he blamed the doctors for surgeries for going wrong when he doesn’t listen to their advice to stay out of the gym. Ronnie Coleman had an addiction problem.
