This guy had all odds stacked against him in life. Born near blind at birth, abandoned by his mother. Raised in poverty, had his remaining vision literally slapped out of him by worker at a blind orpanage when a teen. Went on to marry a gorgeous woman, have a family. Oh, and became one of the biggest music icons ever, won 6 grammys, had 35 number 1 hits, a double platinum album, a platinum album, 7 gold albums and was inducted into the country music hall of fame. Some people just don't give a damn about the odds against them I guess.

Married in ‘79, divorced in ‘82, ran into him at a country dance club a few months later. He requested this song and literally pulled me onto the dance floor. He sang every word while staring into my eyes. He walked me back to my table and whispered into my ear “There ain’t no getting over me.” Then he left and the next time I saw him was 16 years later just a few months before the cancer took him. I’ve had the thought every day of my life since that he was right…I’ve never gotten over him. 😢
