Hendry won 36 ranking events in about 15 years. Astonishing. Ronnie has won 5 more but over a much longer period. They're both awesome but Hendry has the edge for me. Had he not got the yips, he may have won many more trophies.

@@101steel4 Ten players have completed a career Triple Crown, having won each of the Triple Crown events at least once. These players are Steve Davis, Terry Griffiths, Alex Higgins, Stephen Hendry, John Higgins, Mark Williams, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Neil Robertson, Mark Selby and Shaun Murphy. Only Davis, Hendry and Williams have won all three Triple Crown events in the same season, and Hendry is the only player to achieve this feat twice. I mean five consecutively world titles for Hendry, and he was world number one for eight consecutively years.

There is a few things here that I'll say that everyone can ignore....you're welcome by the way.... Words mean things! Greatest and best for example. Ronnie is both but if we are talking about best then dominance doesn't even come into it. One comment in this thread is the same banality about Triple Crowns in a season, WC in a 10 year period. Who gives a fuck? Would Stephen Hendry have won those titles if his opponents have had had the same win ratios, points per frame, pot success and safety success as those in last 15 years? Absolutely not! It's ridiculous on the face of it and an embarrassing argument for anyone with any critical thinking skills. If you want to call Hendry the most dominant or ruthless or King of the crucible or the 90s then so be it. But words matter and the truth be told if we are talking about about ability, skill, points per frame and match play a peak 94 Hendry MIGHT just about cut it in the top 10 of the world but the likes of Robertson and Judd would just out score him, Higgins would out play him and Selby would out-bore him. But he is probably the 2nd GREATEST player of all time because of his immense success and dominance and several records that he still currently holds. I'm not even gonna talk about their head to heads, because I don't needs to. Hendry's win rate was never above 70%. Ronnie's peaked at 77%. No other player has got in the 70s. If Hendry couldn't do it against Dave Harold and Nigel Bond he definitely isn't doing it 2024. No matter what version of him you throw out there. To say otherwise is to succumb to nostalgia and poppycock, and I bid you good day

I'm always baffled by the number of people that still debate Hendry is greater. C'mon man... forget the titles (which O'sullivan has clearly won as much and more than Hendry). @@hodgie9881 but because Ryan Day will never make a 147 faster then Ronnie that seals his place in history to some degree. What I was trying to highlight was the concept of being "gifted". Some people have it. most do not. No idea really what it is and where it comes from. You can take any sport and watch a gifted player for a short period and know that they are special - like no other. The greatest of all time is a measure of that gift not so much how much silverware they have which is relative to the quality of players around them at the time.

You need to understand that from a phycological pov you do not want to be hearing how you're the best or you're this or that. Ronnie is the type of person who needs to push that stuff away or it will really mess with his head. You see it time and again. Maybe after his career is over he can do that but from every Interview I see of him it's clear he needs his head clear of all that nonsense to be able to play better. No offence to Taylor as i think most will agree, but I think he isn't taking into account why Ronnie might say that.

I am definately a student of the game and all the minutia thereof. When Hendry came along he essentially re-wrote the way the game was played and he was very very very good at what he did. O'Sullivan came along with the knowledge of the old-style game but fully immersed in the new-school thinking that Hendry brought. O'Sullivan was/is very very very good at playing the new-school game but in the last several Years he has also brought back to the table the old-school game and he is very very very good at both games. Who is better? Ronnie at his best vs Hendry at his best, I'd have to give the nod to Ronnie however between the Two if one is just slightly off his game the other would have won. (I need to talk in past tense since Hendry is retired) Another element of the game that is not widely appreciated by the new-school players or fans, is the elegance of a safety game. Both of them are majestic when playing a tactical game. They don't or didn't need to much and Ronnie is not keen on that kind of game but man, when they have to bring out that weapon it is a beautiful thing to watch. Another factor to consider is the evolution of the game and the skill of the newer players. The newer players, if you average out things like centruies etc, The newer players are vastly superior to who was playing in the early 90's. That O'Sullivan is still dominant against todays calibre of players speaks volumes to me. Who's the Goat? No doubt about it, not one scintilla of contradiction, Ronnie is without a doubt the greatest snooker player ever and arguably the most perfectly honed athelete of any sport ever.

@Rabid-Pinocchio6 ай бұрын
@@stephen729 It is difficult to compare apples-apples in different sports and there are transcendant enigmas across the gamut of sport. It is impossible to quantify with certainly, but my only frame of referance is, we all know that Ronnie can let external pressures influence his performance and perhaps that is a factor to be considered but that said when Ronnie is doing what Ronnie does I don't believe that it can be done better. in essence if you were to build the perfect snooker-playing ultra-AI robot with a "brain the size of a planet" I do not think that the robot, no matter how you envision it, could play 'better' than Ronnie. That is the referance point that I'm centering on but sure Djokovic is another transcendant athelete, no doubt about it.
