I'm a 33 old woman who just recently took up parkour. I absolutely have no friends who want to do it with me. They are a pretty academic bunch and not sporty or outdoorsy at all. So I train alone. I just learned a trick today that I've tried to make happen. I pondered on taking a video of it and showing to my friends but decided against it: what if I just keep this to my self. My own time with my best friend: ME! People look at me funny sometimes as I'm not part of the demographic who are supposed to try to monkey vault in a park but let them look. While they look, I'm learning something empowering and fun! Thank you for this video! I needed this to know, I'm on the right path with this.

It can be tricky to train alone with people watching. My local park is the biggest in the area and the outdoor gym has constant onlookers. Sometimes you have other teens and adults that either think your crazy or cool for doing what your doing. But then others don't take much notice of it. Being age 17 I find this to be a fun, exploration type of excersize and really enjoy it. Thx for all the advise over the past 2 years Ronnie!

The number 1 safety thing is still mindfulness, but there's 3 specific things I can think of when I'm alone. 1. Don't attract too much attention late at night unless you're in a neighborhood you already know. 2. Always have a cell phone and make sure it's charged up. 3. Consider wearing a bump cap- could even be one of those skullers inserts in a cap or even a little bump cap beanie. There's a lot of options these days, but when you're alone, you won't have the assistance of someone else for those critical seconds that could save your life if something happened. Those little inserts are more freeing than a helmet but offer better protection than if you don't wear anything.

i can do a lot but flips aren't in my skillset. Seriously ill stride 9 to 10 foot gaps, clear an obstacle chest height, a decent size climb up, roll across concrete...but flips i haven't learned bc i don't have any safe way to learn. No one to spot me, no one to stand there to call for an ambulance, no mats or pads, closet gym i went to was one time ever and its a 3 hour drive. No one to train with. It's just like he said; it's all about the baby steps. When I started, I was so scared of everything, but I had really patient friends to help me out and gain confidence. If you don't have friends to train with, I highly suggest watching Ronnie's videos. And remember, no step is too small. If that's all you can do, do it! Then when its easy, make it a little harder. You'll be amazed at what you'll be able to do!

I feel you dude. I can't throw any flips and a kid my mom babysits is 6 he mocks me for it. Even though me striding 10 foot gaps or dropping into a roll on concrete was skilled he doesn't understand the time and practice that requires he just wants to see me flip. When i do learn i won't be showing anyone anything ill secretly be honing them til I'm explosive and precise.

@@ghostxrider1469 yea dude there was this kid my grade we were doing box jumps so i stacked it somewhere near chest height, and i jumped up on it from a standing position both feet, this guys like "anyone can do that" and he could barely get stomach height with a running start, the reason i ever watch someone that mocks the skill it takes to do this, is to watch them fail at proving a point.

Almost all the things I am v good at and people admire I have learnt alone, can't wait to get started learning this! To anyone who's worried about what others think- there are 2 options: letting it stop you from doing anything people will ever look at (which basically means live a life so boring and average no one would ever care to waste a look at it) or do the freakin knteresting stuff you wanna do and let people look, they will say what they say anyway which has nothing to do with you

Very good video. For me, training alone is the time where you work on your technique and drill your movements. When you're out with friends, that's when you challenge yourself and do jumps you are afraid of.

This is a really good video. Keep it up. I've been training for about 10 years now and 90% of the time i have trained alone. These are really good tips and i am happy to see such videos. I think the worst part about training alone is social anxiety. A tip that i would give is: Stay positive, always smile, take time to explain to interested people what you are doing. A lot of people still haven't heard about parkour and to them this looks weird. There are always gonna be dickheads which want to kick you out or shout at you "Get a job" or something similar. Don't annoy them any further, just smile back, take your things and wish them a nice day. Last but not least, there will be a lot of people that would yell "Do a backflip"or something of this sort. I suggest ignoring such requests, unless you are extremely comfortable with the trick. While it is cool to impress random people, they don't understand that in this way they are shifting you focus away from what you are doing. You might have been trying a trick for an hour and a random backflip might put you in a completely different mindset.

This man teaches me everything, but im really a shy person who thinks in a negative way,so its really hard for me,even though in high school im really shy, when we are doing a drama,i said to my self, goddamit here we go again, and thats why sometimes i fail other subjects, its really hard to think in that way, sometimes my body "move by itself" i mean sometimes my head is blank and i just like my body move by itself and then when my head backs to normal i said to my self, "what the, what happened?",and still today im still shy,and because when im in a highschool everyone was judgemental so every thing you make a stupid/weird things they just throw you some mean words and i know for sure "people only remembers the mistake you made" so still today im really shy nothing change at all and thanks to this man it helps me a little bit to get a confidence and walk alone like there is no one watching you can do whatever you want and yeah Thank you Man thanks for your help!
