Pro tip for the truckers, EVERY time you park: 1) Set the trailer brake. 2) Pull against the trailer. 3) While pulling against the trailer, set your tractor brakes. You can't pull the pin while it's in a bind.
@Koleton10012 күн бұрын
Yes was going to say this. Got told by a former coworker to always do this because we witnessed a Cuban sand hauler lose his load because of a pulled pin. Guessing he made someone mad
@RedneckCowboyFeller10 күн бұрын
Yep. Doesn't take long to do a tug test, and it saves a whole lot more potential headache later. Personally, I also made a habit of eyeballing the pin, among other things, before climbing back in. Any time I was away from my rig, even if it was just a couple minutes to hit the head at a rest stop, it's getting a brief eyeball inspection. If I'm out of direct view of the rig for even a moment, I have no idea what COULD have happened, and there's simply no reason to take chances, not it when it only take a minute or two to do an eyeball check.
@RakaStumpy201810 күн бұрын
I do a tug test everytime I move my truck if it's been out of my sight for more than 5 seconds. A tug test saves time and saves money. Plus I don't park in the fuel islands I get fuel go find a parking spot and then go inside. I'm old school as well. Even if not getting fuel and I want lunch I'll go park in a parking spot before going in even if it's only gonna be 5 min.

Yes Have had that happen to me, someone decided to muck up my run by pulling the pin on the back trailer of a b-train. As it was empty was able to lift it with a forklift and get the landing legs down. What cost was the 1.5 hours spent repairing the electrical and air connections to get it moving. The culprit was found by security footage and his pay check was docked the sum of the repair bill.

Most truckers are great people. I remember 30 yrs ago I was travelling in a small hatchback up the great diving range, The Gap locally known as in Queensland Australia at night in bad foggy weather. The driver decided to get off at a truck layby, but mistook the entrance and ended up in the ditch. With only 2 tires touching the ground. One of the truckers immediately got out and came over to check on us. Once we were all out, another driver checked the car and said we did no damage. He then offered to pull us out of the ditch with his truck. After getting the car out safely. We were given great advice in that if you are travelling in thick fog, follow a semi trailer as they sit higher, and a lot of times, they can see better. They then radioed to a truck coming up the range and arranged for us to follow him up and over the range. We made it home safely due to those truckers. I now alway give trucks the respect they deserve on the road.

For the most part, salt of the earth, but it only takes one ahole.. so we have to be alert , ensure professionalism. I sure miss it, but also enjoying retirement.. took me 5yrs to sell the last of our trucks , my C550. Sat in the yard idle for a couple of years ..

Cool, an extra video for the week! I would like to believe that the pin wasn't properly locked in, because I have seen a trailer dropped in the road a few times in my life, but considering where this incident happened, I might be inclined to believe that someone pulled the pin for whatever reason because someone else was butt hurt about something
@liftedpurplehaze12 күн бұрын
I would bet the driver went in for an extended toilet break. That is a no no in the fuel lane. Move front, pay bill, come out and leave. Do not tie up the fuel lanes.
@davidgates112212 күн бұрын
Used to have a 5th wheel camper. The hitch I use was made in such a way that I could put a padlock through a hole and that prevented pulling the pin. I also connected the break away cable to the padlock. Kept me from forgetting that.

Ron I also watch Boneheaded Truckers. There’s a bunch of truckers who will block the fuel island & another trucker will be mad & will pull the hitch pin& the trucker who blocked the fuel island doesn’t do a tug test before pulling away. I remember one year when they had me doing local work because the passes were closed for weather, I had to go pick up at one of the port places near Long Beach. Whoever set my trailer down, didn't put the landing gear down and left about enough room to just be able to extend the landing gear handle. It was 2am and I had to crank up the thing on LOW gear while squatting partially under the two trailers until I could squeeze the back of the truck under it enough to be able to lower the gear down and get hooked up. Not a fun night.

I've dropped trailers twice in my career. Fortunately both happened at facilities with yard tractors that were able to get under them and lift them up for me (Which was a blessing since my loads out of those facilities were a mouse's fart away from being 80k lbs every time.) What I did consistently though was forget to disconnect my air and electrical lines. Boy that wakes you up when the gladhands get flung back against the sleeper. I eventually got tired of replacing the cheap truck stop coil lines and had some nice, heavy-duty, kevlar reinforced rubber lines custom made, and I kept a hose barb kit that fit them too, just in case. I also built my own electrical cable with a length of heavy duty reinforced cable that you could have towed another semi with.

Thanks for the bonus vid. The low traffic level at the pumps answers my one question, there was no need to rush to clear the pump lane so the solid landing base it gave was better than the gravel away from the pumps.
