bbyeahwhatever . With automotive tires I’ve seen them use oversized o-rings on the bead and occasionally a ratchet strap around the circumference. Are those methods used on truck tires too? I imagine the strap would have to be pretty strong to work at the higher pressures?

You know, you said that if you treat others with respect, you'll get respect back (most of the time) and I can attest to that. I used to be a trucker. Every time I got pulled over, whether I was speeding or just got pulled over for a random roadside inspection, I always said "yes, sir" or "no, sir." Every time. And I will say that even when I was expecting a ticket, I didn't get one. I didn't try to talk my way out of it or anything, I just treated the officer with respect and I got respect back. #PoliceArePeopleToo #AllLivesMatter

Well, sir!! Never thought I would see the day that a major company would let a driver leave a trailer on the side of the road. Not sure why her did that, but it was done. Nice job on getting it off the road, to a safe place, and getting the tire re-inflated with their technology. Thank you for taking the time to do all the work that it takes to put one of these on here. God bless you and can't wait for the next installment of Day in the Life of Ron Pratt: Tow Truck Driver. Its a pain when that system does not work properly. Instead of inflating. It will deflate the entire tandem in only few hours, and if loose the bead. Your out of luck. The go down road with air on is 20% work. 50/50 when it is wet in 4 miles

Usually an optional add on or aftermarket install just like with most "motor" vehicles these days, some makers offer as standard (or optional) a simple pressure monitor system like Tesla for example. My moms Honda CRV has a tire pressure icon much like the Check Engine light leaving you to guess what tire it is and the problem be it pressure loss or a puncture due to a nail or screw being run over and embedding itself.

FIRST!!!! Hahahahahahahahahaa!! Ron, you get to have all of the funnnnnnnnn!!!!! I was a trucker for many years, and I can GUARANTEE YOU THIS!! Never in my entire trucking career, did I call my company, with a report of a tire off of the bead, and have them tell me "JUST DRIVE IT, SEE IF IT FIXES IT"! And magically, it's fixed!!!! Never, zero, zip, zilch, nada, nothing, never happened!! And also, I never had a bad tire at the tire shop!! It was always geographically between two shops!! On a weekend! Over a holiday, in bad weather, at night, under a grossed out load, 30 mins ahead on my travel time (no one ever has a break down, unless they are ahead of schedule)!! They always called the furthest tire repair, with the newest tire man, who always left the one tool that was really important in the other truck. That then needed to borrow my vise grips, and a Phillips head screwdriver!! They only ever took cash for road calls, so I had to follow them 150 miles in the opposite direction, back to his shop, thru a small town that didn't allow big trucks, to get a comcheck, to pay the service fee! Otherwise, tire issues weren't that bad!! :-O

I picked up a trailer years ago when the auto-inflate was a new thing. It had an inside flat on off the rim just like the pup trailer in this video. The load was light or empty, can't remember. I went down the road about 10-20 miles full speed to a truck stop to call it in and see about getting it fixed. When I got there, the tire was up and not leaking. Ran it for the rest of the day and it did not leak down overnight. That auto-inflate payed for itself saving a road service call.

Great Video them auto inflators are worth it. I use to deliver pups from Wabash Trailers out of Indiana and by the time we would hook a set and get to trailer checkout they would air up any low tires on the trailers and dollies so needless to say when I became an O/O my trailers had the auto inflators on them tire wear and tire replacement savings alone makes it worth every cent plus I had a lazy driver that didn't give two cents about my equipment (but don't let his check be short) that's why I sent him packing after his third strike.

Boy, I would hate to be the contractor that left that trailer like that. In our contract, we are supposed to stay with the unit until help arrives, have out our triangles and never abandon the equipment. Too many bad things can happen, stolen trailer, stolen tires, etc. I suppose it was empty or they would have never left in any circumstance. Love your videos, Ron, I have a small fifth wheel to fifth wheel wrecker but we need to change to a front lift instead. I love seeing all the accessories you have. We bought the remote light bar this past year for ours.

Strange that any company would leave a trailer unattended and sitting on a roadway for any reason. Also, I'm amazed that that auto-inflation system would put enough air through to help a tire bead up to the rim just while driving it. Learn something new every day, I guess. And yes, that's a bit of a stretch from a "gooseneck" to a 28' drop-frame, but luckily you brought the right truck for the job :)

@clynesnowtail1257
@clynesnowtail1257 6 жыл бұрын
I was interested in that as well! I wonder if the tire naturally bows outward towards the bead when you run up at speed. Cause that thing was loose on the rim when he took off. Then once it makes a bit of a seal to the bead, the air from the CTIS can begin inflating it. The way they asked him to do that it must be something they are familiar with doing for popped beads.

See you didnt strap blocks like on rotator. Surprising inflator was able to reset tire like that. Seen them on lots of trucks but didnt know they were able to do that.. Read comments above and enjoyed the sub dive too. Stay safe and warm. In ENC its 24' / 3' am monday.

the way i have been told it works is when you drive fast enough long enough the beads of the tire get forced out and with the air going into the rim it will eventually have enough air to hold it

Used to work for Stoughton trailers, built those exact trailers. Had to go out on the lot once to air up tires that had went flat, jacked up the rear, used the bead blaster with the tire inflation to air up the outside tire. Once that one was seated, I just screwed in the line for the inside tire and it seated itself.......

Frozen air brakes can be a real pain. Worse is inheriting a piece of equipment like this and not knowing its maintenance history. Back in the day, we would carry 'Air Guard' air system anti-freeze. The first thing we would do is put some down the supply line. That would often take care of things temporarily.

I was going to compliment you on your organizational habits. It's like you have a diagram with the proper place for everything - including specific hammers that go into specific bags. And you don't seem to "just lay" something down temporarily - even if you're going to use it again within a few minutes, you put it back where it goes. However, as impressive as your organizational habits are, the auto-inflate system on the trailer took center stage. Not that the trailer is equipped with one, but that it actually reset the bead on the tire just by driving it. Setting the bead on a tire that ISN'T on a vehicle can be almost impossible at times. But while the vehicle is being driven....! That's the kind of stuff that stories are told about around camp fires. BTW, I like the camera view from further back in the cab a little better. You can see farther down the highway. And as always, great video. It's too bad I can only give it one thumb's up.

Good day Ron. Enjoyed the video. Sure does make a difference to have the right equipment and tools. I don't see how you get around without knocking the camera off. Those look like new tires with the label still on. How does a auto inflation system work. Your job is allot like the school maintenance business, for which i am blessed to have retired from. You never know what each day will hold or who or what God will put before you. Take care and God bless.

About ten years ago, I was driving home on the highway late one night when I came up over an overpass to discovered everyone hitting their brakes and going everywhere. A truck was pulling a 53ft trailer and a 38 ft trailer when the 38 ft trailer had come unhooked in one of the two lanes. It must have just happened because the police weren’t there yet and traffic hadn’t backed up very much yet. The driver must have realized he lost his second trailer since he dropped the 53ft trailer in the emergency lane a few hundred feet up the highway and I’m guessing was trying to circle back to grab the 38ft trailer.

Going 70 mph on Interstate 71 north in the middle of a turentual downpour, there was a semi trailer blocking the right two lanes of traffic. There was about 20 ft of visibility, so most people were swerving around It.
