I bought this kit for my KIA EV6. Assembly was a piece of cake with the video but I hardly dare to put the clamps on since they do not have any rubber protection. So it’s just the metal clamp (seen at 1:02) that directly sits on the sheet of the car. Is that how it was designed to be?

Im a bit confused by the video. It says that the "pointy" end of the bar should be facing backwards, but at 1:51 when the front left clamp slides on it looks opposite. What is correct?

@@thulethis is absolutely wrong, unless you are mistaking what was meant by “pointy” end. The more tapered end or pointy in would face forward or it would defeat the whole purpose of this design, to be aerodynamic. Now if you meant the points on the rubber facing back, then that’s correct. Those even act as arrows to point towards the back.

Be careful using this video *only* . For some vehicles, there are different rubber pads for different positions on the vehicle (FL, fr, rl, rr) and the clamps that reach down to the window frame likewise differ. The video makes no mention of this!

No. I don't think they'd sell many of these if they did. The metal clamps are coated in a rubbery material, but they won't come in forceful contact with the paint if installed correctly.

The only thing I don't understand is why you gave this video a title. It was so close to being absolutely wordless... just got my first Thule product and I'm hoping the very lame instructions are a testament to the confidence that Thule has in its product. They look great, and easy enough to install.. but seriously a word spoken or written would have gone a long way in my opinion.

Is it just me or is part of the video wrong. Where the first 'foot' is attached to the bar it shows the Front Left foot, but it looks as though the bar would be the wrong way around with the narrow end, not the wide, facing forward?

Incomplete video. It doesn’t explain which rubber foot to put where (they’re not symmetrical) and the “clicking” insert at 0:57-1:02 is not happening with my EVO Clamp.

When I bought a second hand Camry the owner gave me this roof rack but assembled wrong.... all wrong. It doesn't fit and missing parts and keys... I have to disassemble first....Sigh......... How....

Also, my roof rack kit didn't come with a control key, and this video neither indicates you need one, or explains what to do if you don't have one - which is a situation customers will definitely be in when you ship the product without one. This is appalling bad. I'm going to stop here, because I am confident that small but important stuff like that is going to come up throughout the entire install process, which BTW I'm using other videos for, made by people who are actually explaining what to do. Next time I need a rack or other equipment, I'm definitely going to check out the competition because this is just leaving a bad taste.

Still dont inderstand xy scale. If x is the width of the roof then the numbers on the bars dont make sense. It was easier if they made a tab with car models/x numbers

I've gone from a Seat Leon estate with roof rails, to a Seat Leon hatch with these type of bars. The only thing that concerns me is will the metal clamps once tightened, damage the paintwork of the car? The clamps do seem coated with a layer of paint themselves so is that enough to prevent them rubbing the paintwork under the door frame?

When installing a clamp roof rack it is important to clean the surface and the roof rack before installing it. The clamps have rubberized paint covering the metal to prevent scratches.

The measurements for the Evo X (scale) of 45 on the Mazda CX-30 don't appear to be correct - the car is too wide at this point for the clamp kit to fit. The rubber feet are quite a way from sitting snugly to the car roof contours at this point.

Golf Mk 7 5 door hatchback. Is it really just 60kg including the rack? Weight bearing capacity of the roof is 75kg. Also is this meant as dynamic weight restriction only or also static (want to use the bars with a rooftent)

I installed these but they make alot of noise when I drive on the highway, around 100km/hour, almost like a winter windstorm sound and it is quite annoying and very loud... any idea whats wrong with installation?

The noise level is dependent of the type of bar you have, Thule Wingbar is the one with the lowest noise level for example. THe placement of the bars on the car can also impact the noise level and if you have a railing on the car you can try moving the rack slightly backwards.

It is not insanity, it is actually ingenious! That way we can produce car specific and safe roof racks at a lower cost since we can use the foot for many more cars to keep the cost and resource use lower. Then you can also more easily switch between cars and buy less new products that in the long run is better for the environment and your economy.

Poor video to match the poor instructions. Need a video where someone actually speaks. The XY dimensions don't make sense either. I feel pain for the general consumer if a jet engine assembler has a hard time understanding the assembly.
