I've been working for the BOP, for the past ten years. I work at a low security prison in DFW and it's the best kept secret. The hardest part is just showing up to work. I can probably count on one hand, the number of "use of force" I've been involved in. We have a ton of overtime at my institution. Last year I cleared $183k, not including the money I get from the VA for being a 100% disable veteran. You can easily get 80 hrs of overtime a pay period. I like to do med trips and hospital overtime. In order to minimize my taxes, I max out my TSP and FSA contributions. Given the economic climate we are in, my job has been a blessing. I don't have to worry about job security, and I'll have a pension and 401k when I retire. Also, my wife doesn't have to work, so there's someone always home with the kids. Recently got one of my close friends on and he couldn't believe how easy it was.

@bobbytatum84 you know it! been on morning watch past 6 years with sunday monday off, assigned at the FMC, average about 4 doubles Tuesday - Friday, 8 and skate on my friday, leave the FMC and do all my OT at the FCI 1 or Low lol… You stay safe too! 🫡❤️

To be honest, u don't really need a house mortgage because you're more at work and the gym then at home. A mini RV is all u need if you're single and free.

Kinda, I can relate to what u r saying. I am an OTR truck driver. I have to have a home bcs this 8'x8' box gets to be small and clostophbic. I would imagine working in a jail kinda the same thing. However, I live n a low COLA area & my mortgage is only $651 per month

nope no real grooming standards for the federal prison. When i worked county jail, you had to be clean shaven, the feds you can have long hair & a beard down to your stomach if you want like Duck Dynasty 🤣. If you apply and get on at the feds, tell the human resources people there is referred you for the job, Ryan Smoot. we get a recruiting bonus for helping people get on! the expectations are you for you to follow the policy and procedures and basically make sure the inmates are not trying to escape, fighting or killing each other, trying to harm themselves commit suicide, or get high off of drugs and intoxicants

in your rookie year you’re gonna be bounced around and working different units anyway. best on the job experience, the inmates will get over on you on some things, but you will learn as you go

i think it can be. my last fed prison i worked at in West Virginia i lived a hour and 10 minutes from the institution. We had van pools that met at the local Walmart & the staff rode the vanpool down to the prison, we all just pitch in money to fill the vans up. your prison nearby may do something like that or if you know somebody nearby working there yall might can carpool.
