I knew almost nothing about the movie and didn't know they would escape, or that they would spend half the movie outside the room, dealing with the consequences. It made the movie much more powerful and interesting, and also cathartic, because despite all the anguish you do get the great relief of their escape.

I feel the same way. all I saw before seeing the movie was a 30 second Netflix preview of her explaining to jack what the outside world was before I pressed played. about halfway trough the movie i just thought about how I wished they would show what they would have to deal with after they might or might not have gotten out of there, and then I saw that there was an hour left of the movie and it felt so satisfying.

This movie really does bring up some visceral feelings-- the tension and suspense surrounding their initial stay in 'room', which is added to by great performances; you genuinely feel as though 'room' is everything to that kid. Then following that, the drama of: will they execute their escape? Will the kidnapper be apprehended? And so on... Then there is the most damning part of the movie: the psychological commentary on how difficult it is to mentally readjust to something completely new to you. In some instances you feel as though the kid might have been happier having stayed in room, even though that would have been a substantially bigger detriment on his life. I suppose all in all, it chronicles how difficult trying to get your life back actually is, and further how hard readjusting to a new 'normal' is.

But suffice it to say, this movie *KILLED* me inside. 💔 😭 Every person in the world should see this movie. Words aren't enough to describe what this experience I just had truly was... lordDEMAXUS - Not just the suicide attempt, when Joy Newman (Ma) brought up the whole father issue, was so pointless. Joy's father not wanting to talk to Jack, Joy being angry at her friends. There's so mcuh of this film that's given no context or purpose, and all it does is shift tones drastically and just make it feel as if all it's there for is to make you feel bad rather than communicate everything. I left a comment on my full thoughts of the film though on this vid. I can just copy it and send it to you as a reply if you want to read it.

Her dad wasnt upset with her. He just couldnt look at Jack knowing that his daughter was raped to produce him. He was probably also upset with himself for feeling like he didnt protect his child. There must be a lot of complex emotions attached for those who have actually lived through it, and unfortunately there are people with this same experience

Mixed feelings about this film. It's definitely well acted (at least by Jacob Tremblay who plays Jack) but it never stopped feeling like a Lifetime special for me. I think they're giving Brie Larson way too much credit here because she came off as flat to me. I don't know where they got "beautifully written" cause there's not a lot of story going on and worst of all IMO the movie never tries to go deeper into what kind of damage and effect this kind of situation would have on the characters. The movie is all surface level emotion with no real substance, just a carefully constructed Fake Deep movie that's just supposed to make you have The Feels. It's definitely good at getting emotions out of you but once you think about it it falls apart (The kid is the movies saving grace).

Reading through all the comments of people sobbing I thought I must be dead inside. Anyway I thought "Lifetime movie" as well and agree with your assessment. It could have been so much better. The writer was in the Hollywood roundtable for screenwriters, which means she'll probably be nominated for an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay! Come on...

I agree Brie Larson was not the deserving winner but Jacob Tremblay was really outstanding in his role and he made the movie what it was. The Room had a very original premise and for the greater part the suspense and narrative was great. Maybe the second part was somewhat unremarkable in comparison to the main first part but it was a unique film. And well made as well.

Just watched this movie. Cried all the way through it. So sad and amazing. Insignificant things that made it unbelievable. - Why not just hack that keypad. Just enter every four digit number on the keypad and be free. Did she not have time? Or is it a five digit number or 6 digit number. Still doable. - When they are free every scene looked like it took place in the fall-winter. Looked like a lot of progress in Jack learning things took place in a couple of months. In reality I bet that would take longer like years. - When Jack escapes from the truck, he just happened to jump out when there was another person to see. That was damn lucky. - When Nick was taking out Jack, do you think Nick was that dumb to not check the body. That entire scene where she had him wrapped up and saying just take him away seemed so fake. Like a mother who just lost her son wouldn't mourn. Even when Jack was in the back and sitting up Nick didn't see this thing in the rear view mirror until a moment later. I see a garbage bag in my bed and I notice it flying up and down. - And how long does it take the police to show up when he was lying on the ground. Seemed like hours later because it was dark then. And the police wasn't concerned about calling paramedics. Nothing too serious, just things that I thought about while watching the movie. It was a really great performance by the kid. Worth seeing.

"Why not just hack that keypad. Just enter every four digit number on the keypad and be free. Did she not have time? Or is it a five digit number or 6 digit number. Still doable." In the book, Ma literally has a game with Jack to just press all the buttons randomly, Jack doesn't think about it, but it is quite obvious what Ma is doing. "When they are free every scene looked like it took place in the fall-winter. Looked like a lot of progress in Jack learning things took place in a couple of months. In reality I bet that would take longer like years. " Jack still had the T.V. in the room. He knows about things, he just thought they were all fake and is learning they are actually real. In fact in the book, I believe several characters are actually surprised at just how good he is at reading/spelling and counting.

+Amy He Rare instance where the movie may be actually better than a good book. Jack's narrating in the book can be a little ... ummmm ... juvenile (naturally) at times. I loved this movie. The ONE thing I would say that would keep me from giving it a ten is the fact that I feel like the kid's character development happened a little too fast. Without going into spoilers, the movie just felt like it ended a little too suddenly. That being said, still amazing, and I'm happy that WhatTheFlick gave it a unanimous 10 across the board. +BOCLAN2000 - When I watched the film for a 2nd time, I found the 2nd half to be just as compelling. It took the relationship of Ma & Jack to the real world outside. When that happened, all relationships were changed. Ma & Jack, grandfather & grandson, Mother & daughter. Although this really contained 2 separate movies, I loved both.

Best movie of the year for me thus far; have yet to see hateful eight (I'm a tarantinoian lol) but somehow I think Room is still gonna be number one for me. For me, this film shows the very core of what it is to be a human being. It touched me in a way very few films have. Go watch it in theaters. But I have a feeling that the home viewing of this film with have an even higher impact on the viewer, especially if the viewer opens up to the film like I do most of the time

***** The kid narrates it, which for me was totally annoying. I can't stand kid actors, but his acting was good. You see a lot of the mother the first half of the movie, and then the second half is mostly the kid adjusting, witnessing things the adults do, but mostly him. Kid narration. Ugh.

5/10 .I didn't like this film. It was mediocre. The writing wasn't something brilliant, the story was good, but it wasn't told very well. The kid was annoying, Brie was fine, it was an ok performance, but not Oscar worthy. It was very melodramatic and had really cliche stuff in it. Also the direction wasn't very unique nor visually interesting. Some of the dialogue was laughably written and the supporting characters were just cardboard cutouts of not developed characters. The one positive I have: the sequence when Brie and her son were planning the escape and the actual escape was great. That was the only time during the movie that I actually felt something. (sorry about my bad english)

I love movies. Rarely do I not like a movie actually so maybe this is another overreaction on my part but I've never really known what my favorite movie was or what I thought the best was, until after watching this. No it's not my favorite movie, because it's not one your gonna want to watch on family movie night. But Room is by far the best movie I have ever watched. I cried twice! No movie has ever made me cry twice. Hardly any have made me do that once. I was cheering so hard for these two characters more than in any other movie.

Half of this film I loved and the other half was dumb and annoying. The scenes in Room were great. I understood the patience that Ma (Joy Newman) had to endure to care for her son. You got to see so many facets of what it takes to be a parent and to deal with external situations as well. Truly speaks to the effort of parenthood. By the time they get out of Room, certain scenes were good, but most of it wasn't relatable and was disjointed. Though great performance, I couldn't relate through his change, because no one ha lived their entire life in a shed, and the movie changes from being whimsical with Jack seeing the world, Ma's father being distant for little reason, adding unnecessary awkward feel, or Brie Larson's depression. Most didn't feel natural because tones and reactions were being thrown with no context to understand and give meaning to them, and the kid perspective is just annoying as we can't relate to a character like his. I got an ok experience, but most of it was bad.

+Jorge Ortiz - I initially thought that the movie could have ended after 100 min. But, the grandfather was distant because her daughter was raped, and he could not initially recognize him as his grandson. And, Ma was having a great deal of problems with others coming into her sons life. She was for 5 years the only connect to her son. And she was afraid of what other people might do to take that connection away from her. Or, change the values she instilled in him. Does that make any sense to you, Best wishes, Ted

Interesting how this movie deals so much with the aftermath of Jack and his mothers' captivity. I think she actually has more difficulty adjusting to the "real" world than he does, which surprisingly also makes a lot of sense. I think children are able to adjust to change more easily than adults.
@theolamp5312
@theolamp5312 8 жыл бұрын
+Enilnimai Shnoodlenoftz - Ma's biggest issue was when the interviewer implied that she was selfish keeping Jack. When she might have had him dropped off at a hospital and Jack would have been free (Ma fearing she wasn't the great mother she thought she was). Also, in room, Ma was the only person that could give Jack a "normal life". After escaping room, Ma no longer felt as needed as she had been. I think she also feared that she would no longer be the center of Jack's life. I agree with your point. But, I think it gets a lot more complicated than just young and old.

that's because she got him out whilst he was 'still plastic' meaning a young child's developing brain can readjust to major changes much better than an older child or adult
