The story behind this song is amazing. Johnny Cash wrote and recorded it. He released it in 1961 when Roseanne was about six. It was a modest success for Johnny, reaching #11 on the country charts. 26 years later Roseanne's husband singer and songwriter Rodney Crowell encouraged Roseanne to record "Tennessee Flat Top Box". She was unaware that it had been written by her Dad. She would be pleasantly surprised. It hit #1. It is reported that Johnny could not have prouder and considered this "one of his greatest fulfillments". Side note - The charming guitar work was done by Randy Scruggs, the son of bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs.

Just completely unreal in every way possible, to have the daughter of the very great Johnny Cash to sing such a beautiful song ,I'm so very impressed by her voice, she brings her late father's music back to life once again, wow I always loved your late father's songs for many years , now you have revived his music in your own way ❤❤❤ , I have listened to this song at least 20 times one after another, I just love it so very very much, I'm just a regular person on disability but your song gives myself Abit to try to stand up and dance , it brings so much joy to my day that I cannot express enough just to yourself, I thank you so dearly and kindly from my total body heart and mind , you are just a angel that by your music helps keep my life going forward, all my love ❤❤❤. , Thanks once again, your songs mean so much to people like myself

Just love this song. Takes me back to being a young boy in Tennessee and being at a get-together where everyone who could play would bring out their instruments and just tune in and everyone would be dancing and singing, having a good ol' time. My favorite uncle could play the banjo like nobody's business! I could just sit for hours listening to him play. He's been gone now for nearly 15 years and that wonderful talent died with him. What I wouldn't do just to go back for one fall day, chill in the air, fresh apple cider, big bonfire going and everyone just jamming along...I hate growing old. 😞

That is too cool ! We met her at Kentucky fried Chicken near Mount Pleasant, Casino, she was with Loretta Lynn, they fell in love with my Son Alfred Vradenburg, he was only ten back than but Loved his guitar ! This song reminds me of him.

Where was it recorded? Is there a longer version of the black & white video online?

@Nashville Over Here - The black and white parts were recorded at the Old Time Fiddlers Convention in Athens, Alabama. As for a longer version of the video, I haven't a clue, sorry.

love love this song sounds like it is about your dad Johnny Cash. I would go and listen i would walk a hundred miles just to listen. And you have such a beautiful voice so talented. I would tell my grandmothers, mom and aunts about your late father and your beautiful voice. May God bless youall your days and your wonderful family.
