Rules:
1. Only my starter in battle
2. No items in battle, except held items
3. No glitches, exploits, or save states
4. No movepool evasion-boosting moves before level 100*
Rule details:
-- I make no attempt to have the exact same rule details between generations.
-- I am allowed to manipulate my starter
-- I play the game at 4x game speed
-- For fair comparisons my Pokemon have perfect (or near perfect) DVs / IVs
-- I am allowed to catch HM users - I can use all field moves
-- Evasion boosting is allowed if the move is not obtained from the Pokemon’s movepool. For example, using Mimic or Mirror Move to boost evasion is allowed.
-- Surge's trash-can-puzzle is automatically solved
-- The bike is allowed in gen1 & 4, banned in gen2, and allowed only to bypass terrain in gen3
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- I can pause the game and timer to take breaks
-- Items obtained with the ability Pickup can only be used if the starter obtained them
-- The footage is sped up & slowed down to match the pace of my narration
These Rule details apply only to generation 1:
-- All battle-mechanic glitches are allowed (glitches that occur outside of battle are banned)
-- In generation 1, I'm allowed to skip Marowak with the Poke Doll
If you didn’t read these rules and left a comment. Thanks for helping with the algorithm.

@Dpmt
@Dpmt 3 ай бұрын
@@jaydenkween1828 Scott went with a rash nature which boosts special attack and not speed. I have no criticism of him boosting special attack because the 10% boost is multiplied by growth to bring opponents into KO range at lower levels. I only question why a minus special defense nature when there was effectively no physical attacks were used in the video making a minus attack nature more valuable. If you want to argue for something like timid or naive that is another matter entirely.

Roselia is a Pokémon that grew on me. I didn't care for it in Gen 3, but because it got a full evolutionary line with a baby and an evolution in Gen 4, it's become one of my favorite lines in the series. The design is really nice, has a good moveset, I like the stat spread, Roselia as a middle stage is a great Pokémon, just an all around good family of Grass-types.

@apache3133
@apache3133 3 ай бұрын
I think it's worth thinking more about just spawning HM users/giving 100% catch rate for them at this point since the game is already being fundamentally manipulated by changing wild encounters and spinners. The ability to catch wild Pokémon consistently as you said is the case for Roselia isn't ever something you've considered when ranking them in the tiers so I'm unsure why you'd want to maintain that aspect. I might just have not understood fully your intentions there though. Glad you're back though and can't wait for the Garchomp Platinum run whenever you get around to it! E: I would also add that some Pokémon have abilities that increase or decrease encounter chance (Illuminate/Intimidate) so turning off encounters already warps (albeit slightly) the final times.
@gstate32
@gstate32 3 ай бұрын
Why not just set an extra NPC that just gives you all 3 at once. Would be faster and as you said he's already manipulating the game anyway so why not just skip the additional steps. If he's worried about the added time from catching being removed than he wouldn't be turning off encounters or forcing specific encounters in the first place.
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon 3 ай бұрын
My approach isn’t perfect. You’ve listed some edge cases here. The goal is to as quickly as possible deduce the Pokémon’s ability to solo the game and be able to go present that to viewers. Catching is easier for some Pokemon. But encountering the right Pokemon in the first place is not something that can be achieved without luck. If Mewtwo runs into 50 poochyena where as Rayquaza gets the Marill first encounter, then the two runs are no longer comparable. There is now a luck induced time offset which isn’t correlated to species. Of course Pokémon as a game relies heavily on luck. I seek to attenuate this in the scenarios where it obfuscates accurate rankings.

Could it be coded so that when you get your starter, you automatically also get appropriate HM friends added? That would make it relatively instantaneous and the same period of time for each run, if possible.

I applaud the choice of hidden power fire. It handles the Skarmories and the Metagross. Hidden Power ice may make more sense for a best league time, but, when you have a special attacking poison type to face Steven with, fire is obviously the best choice. I would be curious how a HP electric and dark would do, for a lot of neutral coverage and super effectiveness against the many fliers in the case of electric and the twins for dark

Considering how consistent you could get +2 from growth, I think the move is to just attack after set up. Counting on a crit alone is awkward, but overheat can also miss. That's enough to just force it and probably save time. Alternatively you could do the same set up and then just use grass whistle once against her ace.

About the Flannery fight, you could have set up some against numel and then some against slugma, relying on mega/giga drain to heal for sustainablility. If you insist on using grasswhistle, it's place is against Torkoal. If your options are crit or get lucky with grasswhistle, grasswhistle turns a much lower chance into (essentially) a coin flip. So, the match could look like: 2-3 growth, mega/giga drain, 2-3 growth, mega/giga drain, giga drain or magical leaf for camerupt, grasswhistle for Torkoal, 2 turns to ko.

I think the way you choose your natures just shows how you like to play the game. Personally I subscribe to the single damage type mindset, so I usually go for adamant or modest natures (jolly and timid have their place as well), the idea being that you probably won't ever use physical attacks as a special attacker and vice versa. Scott seems to value offense as well, just from a different angle. Seems like he prefers to lower defenses in favor of having every move he's got do as much damage as possible. Two sides to the same coin.
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon

To add to what you’re saying, I think this is also format dependant. For a solo run sometimes you need your non-primary offensive stat in a pitch against a particularly awful foe. But in a Nuzlocke / casual run you can just switch out. When game knowledge is lower I think maintaining both stats is going to yield better results. When game knowledge increases, I’d say that the natures you suggest will perform better on average.

So, I would refer to the ones who "spin" in a fixed directions, "rotators" while the other kind I would refer to as "spinners", it makes them more easily distinguishable if you talk about them, and a big reason I use those names is because a lot of runners seem to be using the same words this way to distinguish spinners and rotators. Now, seeing as you are basically scripting out spinners, you probably won't talk about this a lot, but it could be helpful if you use those descriptors should you talk about rotators specifically in the future. Hope this comment is viewed as helpful rather than annoying. Love the vids!

@ScottsThoughtsPokemon you are right. It's probably better that way.

20:21 Note that the Sludge Bomb TM only becomes available after defeating Norman, so you couldn't get it anyway

I remember on my very first save of Ruby, when I was, like 8 or 9, a long time into my post-Elite-4 messing about, I had a level 70-something Groudon knocked out from full health by some random rematch trainer's Roselia. I feel like it must have been Cooltrainer Brooke's l34. I think what happened was that I missed an attack and then it hit grasswhistle and giga drained me to death before I could wake up. I remember I was genuinely distraught by it at the time. I've had an instinctive respect for them ever since.

It would be pretty cool to see you do a real time speed run on Yellow Version with full RNG in the over world. I bet you could get a lower in game time than in x4 speed.

Happy Valentine's Day to all the lovers. Great run of Roselia - my favourite Grass Type. I always included it in my teams of Sapphire.

Is there a ROM I can download with the new mechanics implemented? Or is there a way I could do it myself without much programming experience? I would love to try playing Emerald this way.

I will make the patch available - there are a few tweak that need to be made first though. No ETA on when it will be ready. We're still putting fires out behind the scenes, at least stuff is rolling again.

Oh... Oh no, that backsprite is some cursed knowledge. I do _not_ like that Roselia is essentially wearing a gown-length _bib._

I can’t believe after all that discussion about Sunny Day and keeping it specifically for Steven and then you just… didn’t use it. Never change, Scott.
