I'm from Myanmar. It seems like we usually use our own words most of the time. I didn't know other Asian countries use a lot of English loan words. Is it because of globalization and modernization? Is it because of Myanmar's isolationism in history? It's pretty interesting that Myanmar was colonized by Britain but used few English loan words than those who didn't get colonized by Britain.
@ironheart5830

We do use English words colloquially but we use Burmese counter part in formal speech. Let's not forget Nay Win the military dictator who consistently clean out English loan words in Burmese language with new created native words.

韩语中足球一词“”(Chuk-gu)至今仍然是“蹴鞠”的音译拼写。 Cuju or Ts'u-chü (蹴鞠) is an ancient Chinese ball game that is the earliest known recorded game similar to soccer.[1] It is a competitive game that involves kicking a ball through an opening into a net without the use of hands. Descriptions of the game date back to the Han dynasty, with a Chinese military work from the 3rd-2nd century BC describing it as an exercise.[1][2] It was also played in other Asian countries like Korea, Japan and Vietnam.

China and Mongolia have very unique languages and so it's clear that their languages were not influenced by colonialists... "Salad" comes from Romance languages. In Ancient Latin, salt is "sal". The verb "to salt" in evolved vulgar Latin (5th century) was already "salare" and its past participle form went into Italian (salato), French (salade) and Spanish (salado). The French form was introduced into English during the Norman Invasions of Britain (XI-XIV centuries) .

We Burmese sometime also call Airpod ( ကြိုးမဲ့ နားကြပ် ) Gkyo Mat Na Gyat. It literally means " Wireless Earphone ". During the Socialist era, the government tried to wipe out English influences that was deeply rooted on Burmese Vocabulary. I think it's the main reason that we Burmese don't have that much loanwords than other neighboring countries. I don't know it's suppose to be a good thing or a bad thing, but I feel like it's a good thing and I feel a bit proud of it. XD

10:31 It's because in Burmese, the ending consonant is always silent. Of course, we also have ending consonant in our language and the pronunciation of the a word is changed based on ending consonant but you don't have to pronounce that consonant. e.g : When we pronounced BOOK, it's just BOO(K). But we don't pronounced it as BOO. It's just Book with no ending K sound. And that's why Soccer is called as bor-lone bor literally means ball with no ending r or ll sound. And lone means spherical.

Thank you. I was just gonna ask why Burmese sounds like unfinished sentences to ppl. I'm a native Burmese speaker and that bit was rly puzzling me. That must be why it's hard for Burmese ppl to pronounce ending sounds, huh?

As a spoken language, Chinese Mandarin isn't all that hard once you get the hang of the tones. It's the writing system that's tough on anyone who's not a visual thinker.
