your "darker" or complex emotions are usually what make your art good art. The world isn't sunshine and rainbows, and while its good to be positive, that becomes extremely 2-dimensional as nobody feels super positive all the time. I loved coming back to your channel to see you have the ability to express something deeper. Great job!

Gosh, seeing Ross coming back to KZbin is such a nice feeling! I got inspired by him and his art work, and I'm still growing and working hard on my art style and such on. And i love the idea of Hallow since i have one of my OC's based on my emotions too, most of my art is like that! I'm glad Ross is back so i can learn more about his art and the inspired idea behind it!! Welcome back Ross!! We love you!!! 🙌🏻

Man this is such a raw character! To turn one of your darkest times and feelings into one is pretty amazing. I bet it feels good to finally feel free from some of those emotions you felt now that it's out. Awesome job Ross, hope you continue to heal ♡

I'm so glad you took time for yourself and to recover. I used to worry seeing how constant you were with productivity and how long your work days were, and I'm very glad you slowed down. Often we're made to by our physical or mental health--or both! For my current main OC, he's very much shaped by your mention here of condition. My chronic illnesses have only become more debilitating over time and a large chunk of that is because I tried to be as productive as healthier artists. He not only has my symptoms, but they tie into his magical prowess. The greater his magic becomes the more it takes a toll on his mortal body. He often feels encouraged to make it worse, which is how I felt by others. Disabled people are often only given love and support should we over exert ourselves to seem normal and that is what I pulled it from. Now I'm having to work on a lot of damage and can't do art much anymore. It's been over a month currently due to bad flare ups and insomnia, and I miss it, but can't rush. My illnesses are incurable but what I can do is learn to slow down properly and take steps needed to alleviate symptoms where I can. Very long winded haha, but this made me think of that. I also want this to be encouragement to people to take care of their bodies. Absolutely anyone can become ill and stress and overwork is a common cause. Let yourself feel and give yourself true, proper rest. 💙

Crazy, as you were mentioning the part about turning conditions into attributes, I was thinking of a character centered around overthinking, and the first thing that came to mind, almost intuitively, was a character with a sort of brain interfacing computer gizmo that helps them control the whirling maelstrom of thoughts. So yea, building on your advice, you could take your condition, whatever it may be, and consider ways to make it an advantage. Love to see you back, Ross! Thanks for sharing your experience and being an inspiration to all us nerdy creatives.

i would say that hollow might be my new fav. character you made. all of your character always look cool, badass og pretty much kinda anime series character we see. but with hollow, when you explain his feature, his background, his design, i make me feel like i can relate to him or feel like a similar feeling been created into a vision. all im saying is that making a related feeling into a character makes the best character cause we can connect to the feeling they were made to be. so yeah, the best you ever made ;)

Very cool character, I'm noticing more people who grew up with anime/manga (including myself) are going back to it instead of the more realistic look that's been popular for some time now. It's very encouraging. I speak on myself on this but I'm sure many people feel the same but there seems to be some pressure to make things look very rendered and a guilt trip when you don't, even if you love the look more when other people do it. Idk if im explaining my point well enough but yeah lol 👍

Hollow is an amazing character and concept and he's so cool, but also seems really personal and relatable. I wonder if even his voice is fragmented and maybe even echoes with versions of himself at different ages... like a child version and a teen and an adult at the same time.

I used to work at a job where I had a lot of “down time” so I drew a good majority of my coworkers and giving them super powers based on quirks, personalities, the way they dress and such. I had so many ideas back then! I would love to be able to go and bring them out to life just this design turned out! What I like is that you didn’t feel you had to make a whole new design on the spot, but gradually have adjusted one design throughout the years. Gives the design more history and characfer

Had the biggest smile on my face throughout this new video! It's got me extremely inspired (even though I have other art to do before going back to more character design stuff) and I've missed colour dodge time for the longest time. So glad to see that you're slowly coming back and so excited to see all the stuff you've been working on!! I think this may be my favourite character of yours so far now hehe. It's so cool! I love that the texture looks like he's disintegrating - a bit like one of those pixelated villains that suddenly vanish and pop up out of nowhere which makes it nearly impossible to beat them. The mask idea too,, woah i had my hand over my mouth with how awesome this design is. *Boops for Milo* ❤

5:12 I got a tip for that! With every superpower you add a weakness, or give them a dumb, easy to find one. For example I made a character that has different elemental modes she can switch in and out of. She super powerful, but even the tiniest volt of electric charge will revert her into a normal person again. This way you can have super powerful characters, but they're still beatable.
