April fool's? Who in their right mind completely wants to dissemble their crankset every time they swap bikes.

If you ride road in the summer & cross/gravel/mountain in the winter, maybe. But changing your crankset every time? And Stages is fine for most amateur riders, it’s all about riding with consistency. A nice idea, but not sure it’s warranted
@adamossowski76275 жыл бұрын
ChazPilks Everesting stages is far from being fine, short battery life in the cold and not waterproof enough, I taped mine for all racing and muddy riding, and that was more hassle than changing spiders;) not saying that I’d like to change spiders, just that spider solution like p2max or quark works better for off-road

The biggest advantage of this new design over their other powermeter is that it is compatible with 24 mm spindles. So if you happen to have a bike equipped with a Shimano groupset (as many of us have), you can simply switch the crankset without messing around with the BB, which saves your current BB and a costly visit at the bike shop.
@trroland12485 жыл бұрын
Only guys who’s day job is to play with bike parts would think that a power meter requiring disassembly of crankset, bottom bracket and rings is portable.

use a hub based power meter and just re spoke everytime from road to mountain.(sarcasm required)

I can't believe that the first person at Rotor who came up with this idea wasn't laughed out of the room when he presented it.

Lots of dislikes in the comments. Perhaps you ride an xc MTB for half the season and then you get into cross or gravel for the other half but still want to track power. Maybe then you fall in love with the road for a afew months. You will have consistent power across each discipline. It appeals to me as I have probably too many bikes, and move between them across the space of the year riding different disciplines. Swapping a crank isn't that bad either, but I see how that would become frustrating if you constantly switch between bikes but still want power. Probably just means this chainset isn't for you. I think it's a great idea though. 👍 Can't wait to get my hands on one.
@WildOutdoorLiving5 жыл бұрын
Are we sure that Rotor wants to market it this way? Sounds like they came up with a nice modular system that is compatible with tons of frames and disciplines but do they really think people are going to want to move it between bikes on a regular basis?
@twatts44365 жыл бұрын
I don't own an MTB, but do have a gravel bike. It's a shame that the smallest chainring is a 34t, as I run 48-32 on the gravel bike, and the most recent GRX will give a 46-30 option! That is used as a winter bike, so would have been good for winter training to keep tabs on power. Also useful for bikepacking as a means of monitoring effort (although HR serves quite well for that) Overall though, seems good!

who would want swap cranks and their spider every time they want to ride a different bike?
@adanielweaver5 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure they say you can swap it between bikes to justify the crazy price. But it doesn't have any sort of quick release. Same as swapping cranks usually would be
@GazRadCycling2 жыл бұрын
I can tell you assembling and fitting 1 was enough for me to buy 2 whole cranks!
@pablozuma12005 жыл бұрын
I think is either or. Too complicated to swap. Then it is a smart solution to have the PM in the spider. Rotor is expensive but offers very good quality.
@ProffessorSeen13 жыл бұрын
So quarq have already done this at a lower price point?

"For road it can run just about any chainring combination you can think of...from 34 to 54" - Soo it cant run a 46/30 can it?

Yeah, so everytime i switch bikes i have to change the crankarms, the chainrings and the pedals. And when i‘m done i see that the internal battery is dead. Now thats forward thinking my friends! 😂👌 I’d rather buy 2 quarqs for almost the same price and just take my bikes and ride it... Rotor-> Fail!

If anyone is that focused on their training they'll buy 2x powermeter anyway. Every normal person will be able to get more than enough data to track their training from having power on one bike only. Oh yeah and the wide q-factor on the AldHu crank is a no go for me
@grumbled00k4 жыл бұрын
Oh. Is the q-factor of the AldHu bigger than of the normal 3D cranks? I would like to give it a try because I could continue to use my Chris King 24 mm BSA BB.
