While visiting my daughter, her car needed some front end work on the axle, tie rods and control arms. Decided to make a video on replacing the lower control arms.

Nice job! I encountered all of the problems that you had. I drilled two holes in my axle, ran a bolt through them, and used a slide hammer.

I had to pull it all apart because I had to do the axles on both sides as well as the tie rod ends. If I were just doing the arms, I would not have went as far into it as I did. But this was just part of the overall project so I was shooting video of everything and piecing together the videos of each part from the overall job.

Nice job, had to grind off the sway bars to get at the control arms on mine, just replaced those too. The nuts get so corroded you can't get them off with conventional wrenches, so just best to cut them off in my case, looks like you were lucky though.

Thanks. Definitely a lot of corrosion and muck to deal with when changing these out. I did get lucking for the most part, that damn carrier bearing though was rusted solid. Slide hammers would not free it up at all so I had to take it to a shop to get it pressed out.

Just replaced the passenger side axle on my 14 rogue. When I got to that axle support bearing, I had to unbolt the whole bearing carrier from the engine to remove the axle from the transmission. Then had to beat the end of the old axle with a sledgehammer to get it to pop off. Then beat the carrier onto the new axle then installed it. Quite a pain!

Yes, the carrier bearing was frozen solid. I tried heat, grease, slide hammer and nothing would free it. Had to get it to a shop where they had a press to get it out. The passenger side sucks for sure.

Just did this job on a 2016 rogue what a pain. I fought with the ball joint for a while coming out and going back in. 61k in the car and it was a rusty mess as well. The replacement lower control arms I got were moog and had worlds better welds than the factory ones!

Most of it wasn't too bad for me. The axle was a freaking pain, the carrier bearing got stuck in the support.

I'm replacing lower control arms, brakes rotors and stabilizer links. On a 2018 Rogue with less than 30k on the odometer. I'm finding tons of rust and tie rod ends, ball joints and control arm bushings worn out. WTF less then 30 and im basically replacing the whole front end. Decided to to the shocks also since I had it all apart. I live around Philly so winters haven't been that bad and the vehicle is my wife's and get out much to play in the snow and salt. I bought the vehicle brand new so I know the mileage is under 30k. First and last Nissan just because of the rust issues.

Nice work but jeesh, I've seen too many videos of you guys slamming into ball joints from underneath with a regular metal hammer..... it's called a deadblow hammer let's get with it😉😆
@RoughRidersTV
@RoughRidersTV 3 жыл бұрын
I did not have a dead blow hammer so I used what I had available. These weren't massive swings, just gentle taps to get it to go in. It got the job done fine without damaging anything and that is all that really matters.

You were supposed to jack it up to ride height and then tighten all the bolts and nuts

Don't need to take the steering rod end off....just did mine with no problem....

I did the steering rod because I was doing several components at the same time. So it was just easier to get it out of the way as I did all the parts at the same time.

Yes, they live in an area that gets a lot of snow. The worst part was trying to get the axle free of the carrier bearing.

I'm not a fan of the Rogue either. This is my daughter's car and she can't afford to replace it so we keep wrenching on it to keep it going until she can save up and replace it. The control arms weren't bad but that axle is a pain in the butt for sure.
