Love these,as with sierra xr's...seriously under rated and great noise.

This car is the Dog's Bollocks. As a 22 year old back in 1986 driving one of these was brilliant. Yes they do accelerate! ;-)

+Isochest Just look at the speedo needle climb. So yes, indeed they do accelerate.

I'm glad you enjoy your car such as it is. I drove Rover SD1 V8s' for many years. They were quiet comfortable long distance cruisers without any of the 'shakes or rattles'. If I could find a good one I'd pay a handsome price. The Boge Nivomat rear self levelling system MUST be present and working correctly. Conversions to conventional springs and shocks will never ever suffice. A 5 speed manual was made available but did not suit the car at all. SU HIF6s' were great. The Zenith/Strombergs fitted to some were terrible. The 3 speed Borg Warner 65/66 was perfect, the later GM180 less so.

You're exactly right except for the electric roof bit.

Sound exhaust like old mercedes W126 AMG,good sound.But your ears can so tired,very loud. What the beatiful mountain places? Where is it?
@1100HondaCB10 жыл бұрын
@ Clint Westwood it may only be 190bhp but this V8 is about the spread of torque. If you notice, the car reaches high speeds fairly quickly.
@dazzlerby10 жыл бұрын
I can confirm the gears are long and the engine has loads of torque from about 1,500rpm, my dad had one when I was a kid. I would give anything to own one now.

Wow love sound of that V8 monster sound, love my old Rover 2000cc greatest cars and they were unsung heroes, just bad management shame they went bust, and yes some of the cars did fall apart in the early days of BLMC

Never forget always add 1% two stroke oil as top lubricant and corrosion prevenetion additive to your fuel, when using modern dry eco fuels in old EFI or carbed equiped cars!

Respect. This, IMO, is true enthusiast motoring. I know it's newer but last summer I bought an E39 M5 and drove it to the South of France 3 weeks later ! All you need is Euro breakdown cover and a mobile phone ! What model is this? Badge says 3500S. That wasn't a model for the S2. I'm guessing a 2600S with a V8 in it, as the dash has no wood but then it has a 'leccy roof.

Dat V8 Sound..... Just a question, how much is the insurance on that Rover SD1?
@RoverSD1V811 жыл бұрын
Cheap - as long as you go for a low mileage classic policy.
@Mikehawk141711 жыл бұрын
Cheap eh? Hopefully I can find one! Either way, I love that you have maintained it so well, nowadays most Rovers I see are in such disrepair :(

I said to my brother who knows a lot about cars as he is a mechanic, I would love an SD1 V8 and he said, 'what, 3500cc and only 190bhp'. I said they go much quicker than you think and as for the sound, yes please.
@richardprice77636 жыл бұрын
Only EFi engines made 190bhp, carbed engines only gave out 155! This one in the video has SU carbs....they were nice and torquey though.

My dream project for when I get older, is to get one of these, paint it British Racing Green, Golden paint on the wheels you have, Cosworth rear spoiler and put a Dodge 440 (7.2L) in it and have it bored out to 7.5L so i can change the badging from "3500" to "7500" I sound completely mental don't I?
@BiggerBadderBrian11 жыл бұрын
Great video! Loved the burble as you were driving up the mountain roads. What exhaust system is on there? Never drove my Vitesse like you did on the 'race track', something I regret. Sounded fantastic. Where did you get it tuned? When is part 3 coming?
@RoverSD1V811 жыл бұрын
The exhaust system is the same design used on the touring cars back in the 80's. Standard setup until it gets the the first silencer which is now the only silencer which exits on the driver's side in front of the real wheel. Lost a lot of the footage after an SD card died but recovered most of it. Part three will be up sometime in spring this year.
@RoverSD1V811 жыл бұрын
Got it tuned at Slark Race Engineering. I used them as the man is a genius at setting up SU carbs as they are a Mini tuning specialist.
